1 Cup Old Fashioned Grits 1/4 Cup Butter 4 Cups Water 1-1/2 Cups Shredded Cheddar Cheese 2 Tsp Salt 1/2 Tsp Black Pepper Instructions 1. The first thing you’re going to do is get a small pot and fill it up with water. Place the pot of water over medium-high heat and wait for the water to come to a boil 2. Once the water comes to a boil, slowly pour the grits into the center of the pot. Stir the center vigorously as you pour the grits in. Stirring virgorously is what prevents those unppealing lumps. Stir the grits for about 30 to 40 seconds after adding them to the pot, then reduce the heat to low heat. 3. Cover your grits with a lid leaving a small crack on the side. The reason we cover the grits with a lid is so the grits don’t pot all over the place and to help get them nice and tender. 4. Let the grits cook for about 15 minutes or until they are thick and smooth, then cut the fire off. 5. Add your butter, cheese, salt, and pepper, then stir in well until everything is well blended. You’re going to looooove these!!! Enjoy! Cheese grits are definitely southern….. the good thing is you don’t have to be from the south to know how to make some good ole creamy cheese grits. A friend of mind from the south shared this easy simple and delicious cheese grits recipe with me and so im going to share it with you all. My father use to make Cheese Grits on Saturday mornings. He would always make a big ole gourmet breakfast on Saturdays and because he knew how to cook so well, like pretty much all of my family does… I enjoyed his cheese grits very much!!! He would always make these as a side dish to fried fish. These are a perfect breakfast or brunch side dish and go well with scrambled eggs and bacon, or salmon patties, but they are just perfect with fried fish… MAANNNNN!!!! Cheese grits with fried fish equals a MAJOR FOODGASM, SO BE WARNED!!!! These cheesy grits are so cheesy, buttery, and melt right in your mouth… they’re absolutely delicious and you will be making them again after you try this recipe. Follow ths recipe to a T. You’re going to love em.
Great video. But let me break ya'll off somethin proper that will change ya life. Go ahead and bake your bacon extra crispy(then chopped up) Partially cook your eggs(scrambled) then put it in with your creamy cheesy grits. Now let me know what u think. From a southern bratha✊🏾
Wife loved em!! She laughed so hard that I had no idea what a GRIT was but was able to cheese them up beautifully (thanks to YOU!). I literally thought this stuff was sand but she loved my/YOUR sand and said it made her think of her momma's! Thank you PBJ!!
I'm from the south and my friend told me to stir them for about 5 minutes to get them even creamier. My other friend uses milk to make them instead of water. Then when cooked, pour them into a 13 x 9 pan and let them cool. They become solid (like the way jello turns from liquid to a solid). Then you cut them into domino shapes, put them in another pan and top with Monterey Jack cheese and melted butter; then bake until golden brown. BEST grits I have ever had!
Moo Moo Okayyyy. When I lived in Fla., every Friday my family got together and had fried fish, grits, eggs, pork & beans for breakfast. That is some good eating, let me tell you.
I’m glad he kept it real with how it’s made. Sometimes the best things don’t look picture perfect but it still be good as f. My gma use to serve us breakfast with grits and as we “sat” down she put a square piece of government cheese on top of it. It melts right in still. Bofl.
I hope this doesn't offend you, from a country boy in Georgia, you hit the nail on the head with this one! Thank you for sharing and I hope you and your family had a Merry Christmas! I hope y'all have a Happy New Year!
PhillyBoy, I know you will probably not read this comment since your video was many years ago, but I got to tell you this. Ain't no way with the amount of grits you poured into that little bit of water your grits will not be grainy. For one cup grits you need two cups water and the longer you let them simmer the more plump the grains will cook. Before you add your grits you have to rinse them well until the water runs almost clear. To a rolling pot of water you add the grits and stir them. Personally I like to add chicken broth, a little sweet butter, and milk to the water for flavor and texture. Turn down the heat and let the simmer for at least 45 minutes occasionally stirring them. They will turn out creamy not grainy with a great flavor. You can also stir in cheese just before they are done . Love your channel.
Season the water with everything including the cheese and the water pulls everything through for the best flavor ... I I think is the best way to do it
LOVE the video and now I'm craving me some cheesy grits! The only thing I would suggest is that you use a whole block of cheese and grate it instead of pre-packaged shredded cheese. That pre-packaged cheese is coated with a bunch of things that keep it separated in the package. Better to use the real thing...Just saying. Anyway, thank you again for making me hungry!
I like my grits sweet. Pretty much the same as you made it, but dump some sugar in. Then fry or microwave some sausage links, then throw them in the grits. Easy meal, easy day.
FINALLY! Someone who uses SHARP CHEDDAR instead of those dreadful Kraft slices with absolutely NO TASTE! Love this!!!! Btw, I've NEVER seen grits choke on the cylinder shape container like oatmeal!!!! I have to check my local grocery store to see if they carry that... You also mentioned cream of wheat...... Lawdddddd...I ain't had cream of wheat since I was a baby!!!! I love cream of wheat with the right amount of butter and sugar! Tfs PBJ!!!😘
Grits are healthy asf that’s why u can put all that flavor in there an it’s still good it’s hominy corn healthiest corn bruh it all balances out especially if u work or workout ong
I always follow your recipes exactly as you say but this time I didn't have the butter . I am going to the store for butter. It taste okay but everyone did not appreciate it like your usual recipes ! I hope you enjoyed your Christmas and Happy New Year !😃😃😃

Tina Howard. pork and beans are popular to eat at breakfast in the uk not so much here but hey...lol
OK then enjoy yourself.
Tina Howard Yes, I almost think it's a thing in the South to eat pork & beans as a side with almost anything.
i add salt & butter to the water before i add my girts.I was taught to rinse my grits & rice before i cook it. Looks yummy
If you use chicken broth instead of water, it gives so much flavor. Delish!
