With a suit, Balmoral pattern cap-toed oxfords look so classic. As you've stated in regards to classic style, they've got staying power and if you're young and want to stand out a little, throw in some colored, waxed laces for flair. Whole cuts look nice and sleek, but I'd be afraid of them being trendy now and falling out of style tomorrow. Bluchers/derbies are too chunky, reminiscent of retail store employee required to wear "dress shoes" at work. Strapped shoes look out of place with a suit, like something a new finance grad or car salesman would buy because they look trendy. Take care of them right and your oxfords will stick around long enough for you to look back in 10 years and NOT say, "what was I thinking with that choice?"
Rubber/Dainite soles are more comfortable and practical than Leather, which require some babying (care not to get them wet, wear out quickly walking on concrete) and offer no traction.

About a decade ago I went to a taylor, specialized in bespoke Italian style (Napels), in order to get myself my first custom made suit.
First I felt a bit uncomfortable (i.e. really necessary spending the money?).
But looking back I do think it was worth it, for always being one of the best dressed men in the room during special occasions.
And now, at almost 50, it forces me to stay in shape as well, just in order to fitting the (almost) timeless, still very stylish custom made suit. 😎

Hey, I like what you said about being almost 50, and having that piece as an inspiration to stay in shape. I'm almost 50 myself, and, while I've never exactly dressed like a slob, I learned a lot about style by watching videos like this, and one thing that has stood out are the comments that say things like "Or you could work out, because any style looks good on a built body." During covid lockdowns, I got into a certain habit, because I didn't want to put on weight, and ended up losing ALL of the extra weight I was carrying. Makes the style knowledge look even better. Just wanted to say...we older dudes can look like a freaking million bucks, and even better when we stay in shape👍

Spot on!!! I’ve had a few suits and sport coats, and have always been told I was 46L. Former athlete at 6’2 225, 47” chest and 34” waist, let’s just say I had zero idea how poorly my suits and jackets were fitting me. I’ll be 49 in two months, and sometimes you just don’t know what you don’t know. Went to Suit Supply for a consultation. If you’re considering it, DO IT!!! Obv hard for me to go off the rack, so I went with the custom for a new navy blue blazer. My consultant put me in a 44R! Raise the armholes, lower the top button, the sides come in and show off my V shape. Felt like an idiot for not recognizing this long ago, but to your point it’s even more motivation to stay in shape. I’m getting a couple suits and more jackets, also custom dress shorts. I have like 30 Jos a bank shirts I need to get rid of because no way I’m wearing a bulky shirt anymore. It’s worth the money you’ll spend. I look at the items in my closet and some are a decade old. It’s a timeless look, and if you spend $1,000, $1,500, even $2,000, you’re going to have a quality piece for life. Plus a little extra motivation to stay in shape! 😁

Fantastic content, as always. I recently lost a lot of weight, about 3 years ago. I really enjoy suits and sport jackets. It has been so much fun rebuilding my collection. I am in the fashion phase, after the first basic suit solid colors. I am having fun now with more patterns. I live in Clearwater Beach, Florida. I am from Chicago. The weight loss has been a blessing with the new suits, as I choose lighter materials for the weather. Thank you, for the enlightening content!🙏🏼☺️

Suit supply has revolutionized my style. My best dressed friend put me onto them last year. They are not cheap, but they aren't out of line either. $700 for a suit, $120 for shirts, $200 for trousers. But the quality and customer service rivals bespoke. Lifetime alterations too. Wish I would have known about them longer. I tried on their navy peacoat and it's easily the nicest best fitting coat I've ever worn. I need a coat for work that has to be black so I didn't get it but I literally think about it everyday, that is how good it is.

Unfortunate, because I always liked to suit up. Hopefully, after I get a hang of using a prosthetic I can one day don a suit again. Wish me luck!

I started shopping at suit supply 5 years and I enjoy the shopping experience you get when you go to their stores. I'm 5'4" and I was told by my tailor to find a store that caters to short men because the off the rack will not do me justice as far as the fit. I recommend the custom program because you'll have more options when designing your suit and the fit will be better. I took inventory on my wardrobe and donated it to a worthy cause because the fit was not close to the items I got from suit supply.

This is a lot of great advice. I'm a big fan of sport jackets, especially because of the extra variety you can get with them. It's fun to wear a sports jacket with odd trousers and an odd vest. I rarely wear full on suits because I'm the artist type who doesn't have an office job. I'm actually even considering going into the tailoring business, although that would be in years from now if so.
As for the shoes, I think they work well for casual suits, sport jackets, etc, or as you say to wear to and from work in a more formal suit, but derby's are generally a bit more casual than oxfords. So I'd place them on roughly the same level of formality as loafers and dressier boots.
One trick for making dress shoes more comfortable to wear if you need to walk a bit: get soft insoles, the ones you can buy separately and just put into any shoes. I bought a pair of insoles from the pharmacy, with all sorts of high tech gel padding and what not, that really make any shoes I wear a lot more comfortable. And it's completely invisible, so won't mess with the formality of your outfit. I walk and bike a lot, and wanted to look nice while doing it, so I figured it out.

Made to measure or bespoke should definitely be the definite choice for a well-dressed gentleman, IMHO. Ironically, some off-the-rack items are more expensive than either of those options, may have lower quality and sometimes, a lousy fit.
I was the type of guy regularly looking for decently priced high-end branded items for my wardrobe. But since last year, after having a local tailor make for me three jackets and three suits, I'm way over it. The suits are actually made of high-quality fabrics, one is Loro Piana, another Ermenegildo Zegna Cloth and the third, Taylor & Stewart wool and cashmere blend. All of them cost less than high-branded off-the-rack counterparts, around 1/3, and the fit is spot on.
I will most likely not look at off-the-rack options unless it's something really outstanding. Tailored clothes may seem more expensive at first, but they're real investments that will last for years or even decades.

Even though this video is sponsored to promote Suitsupply, but after visiting a Suitsupply store and buying one of their suits (I didn't watch this video until after my purchase) I have to agree Suitsupply is brilliant. Friendly staff who really know their stuff about suits, willing to help you find your measurements and adjustments and even advice on outfit combinations. Just wish they are near where I live as I had to head overseas to purchase the suit.

Sports jacket FAN!! Sports jackets and coats allow me to do notary work and field inspections in the same day. I can take the jacket off and get active in a polo to perform the inspection, then put the jacket back on to do a sign/notarizing. In Florida, it's too impractical to do both in a suit and I'll sweat through and ruin a nice suit.

In lighter colors and weights I like a one or two button modern cut style... For heavier (warmer) fabrics (I.E. the 'power suit') I like a 3 piece and three-button, structured style... This goes for my preferred kilt jacket cuts as well. Medium lapels on all... whether formal or casual.... OH and I love to see the third 'ticket pocket' coming back in vogue as of late!!

In my 60s---used to work in a high rise in the financial district in Chicago in the 90's/early 2000s--so was suited up daily. I had to build a wardrobe from scratch and wasn't that interested in clothes. Three points I learned:
Stores/salesperson--When you are first shopping around talk to the sales guy. When you find a salesperson who is knowledgeable, if he/she keeps a book on you (cuttings/notes on everything you bought) and there is good price/value ratio--you are done store shopping. (Your sales person will end up pulling clothes they know you will like and will fill out your wardrobe--and will notify you of sales and/or private sales. Saves you time and money. They go to another store? Follow them if you can.)
Tailors--hopefully the store tailor is fitting the suit--not the sales person. Has been there awhile and knows their business. Talk to him or her respectfully and understand they are professionals. Tip them--especially if they are doing something quick for you.
Designers--When you find a designer who's fit matches your proportions (and who's look matches your need) go back to that designer. I'm short and had a 12" drop between shoulders and waist. I could walk into a Hugo Boss Single or Double breasted and it fit perfectly--only needed sleeves 1/4" off and trousers hemmed.
I was in an elevator one day--alone with a woman I didn't know. The elevator stopped on her floor, she got out, but turned and stopped the elevator door from closing. She looked at me and said "I just have to tell you--you're the best dressed guy in this building." Talk about flattering!

These are really great tips, Antonio! In regard to shoes and boots, I'd recommend a pair of boots for the man who walks more than a mile to work, probably anywhere in the country. Obviously, the climate will dictate the best boot, but the key is having the arch support and the ankle support. For the man who uses a lot of public transit and isn't necessarily always walking, but needs a sturdy shoe, I know Alden makes some pretty good walking shoes in the $600 range. I'm not familiar enough with other companies' models to speak for any of them, however. I do know there are other options out there that are slightly more stylish than sneakers 😜

Hi, I'm a big sports jacket fan. I have 2 Ralph Lauren jackets in green and blue. I have a really nice Paul Smith one in beige a tighter fit but it looks amazing. I also have a Guess one too, but I bought a couple of cheaper ones that I thought were nice at the time but now I don't like them. So you live and you learn. Also I have short arms and I know the rule is it can't go past your shirt but on the Ralph Lauren ones they're a bit too long. They're surgeon cuffs so I haven't tried to adjust them. I think they still look good but I do feel slightly self conscious when wearing. Should I take it to a tailor and try to get it fixed? Thanks.

Hello Tesla. I enjoyed ur video and I have learned so MUCH! Thank U! Questions: What would u recommend for a 61 year young man who loves looking different and standout but doesn't want to look like his trying to look like a young man to much but yet loves looking stylish. I am 5/4 , I am retired enjoy entertaning and dinning out for brunch ect... I have a great shaped body for 61 .. I am now learning to become a pan flutist and almost ready to start playing like in elegant cafes ect.. soft lighting type of place . Am looking for an everyday look / gym look / and going out look playing music as I mentioned. I used to dress but after a long recovery ect.. I have lost my touch and didn't have a reason for dressing . But things are changing and moving along strongly and feeling good of who I am but need to Start dressing the part . Looking forward to hearing your you soon I hope . :) By the way I feel younger and look younger by 10 years . Thank U!!! H.

3:32 „… live and breathe style!“ - like the guy who wears a double-chested jacket unbuttoned.

Loving the content. I’m 5’8” with a stocky build … I’ve heard some say that the double breasted look in outerwear and suits isn’t good for my body type. Makes me look shorter. But I love the style and want to be ready when it really comes back. Thoughts?

Great video. I want to dress in suits more just because I want to. I have one that need altering and will eventually get a made to measure suit (not full bespoke yet). This is a good video that encourages me to do so. It's interesting you did this video because I thought I saw another video where you said you don't wear suits much.
