  • We can often encounter judgment on the spiritual journey, in the form of judgments from others, judgments about others, and even our own judgment of ourselves. In this video we'll explore all of this in order that we might let go of judgment altogether.

    I've observed myself judging myself for judging others. Then I address this issue by accepting it's a condition in which we have all been programmed to do. From there I work on resolving how to not judge myself and to realize we are all perfectly imperfect beings.

    This is essentially what Jesus meant when he advised people to take the plank out of their own eye before they comment on the speck in someone else's eye. If you're making judgments it means you can't see very clearly.

    • @danielpaulson8838
      @danielpaulson8838 3 роки тому +5

      You're right. I believe Jesus meant what other traditions would call the third eye, or the ability to see and sense someone's hurt and life with clarity. But our capacity to see is only as clear as our own level of resolving our own attachments to our own experiences. When we carry and try to hide pain or judgment from our own past, that will cloud our ability to see someone else clearly. Looking through that filter of our own pain, we think it is their pain. And we can't really see them clearly.

    It seems we're more disgusted at our differences rather than the people themselves, especially when you want them to grow to the same stage as you because you love them so much but they overlook you. We have to do our best to see our differences as opportunities to deepen and have faith that truth seeks truth and is inevitable. Some of us seek with all our heart because were simply ready to. That readiness was there before we became aware of it conceptually.

    I've seen this process play out in doing harm reduction work with substance use. A lot of people turn to spirituality to address their drug use, yet they lose their tolerance of people who are still struggling with the same behaviors they used to have. It's just a part of the recovery community and it plays out in public policy debates on how to help address substance use.

    Unfortunately I can be very critical and judgmental. First and foremost of myself, but of others also. When I catch myself being critical of others behavior, I try to think ....”yeah, and when is the last time I was angry or selfish or prideful, or egotistical, or cut someone off in traffic”. It never takes me long to think of myself behaving in a similar way. I happen to think being aware and admitting it is a big step, and if you’re watching this video you might be further along the right path than you think. If you didn’t care you probably wouldn’t have the courage to watch this and confront yourself,

    I concur with almost everything you say in many of your videos. Your thoughts reflects my inner world. For that I’m very grateful as it makes me feel less alone. But, and please guide me if I’m wrong, there’s a fine line between judging people as good or bad and discerning who I want to spend time with. While one can hypothesize that the universe brings people to you in order to facilitate growth, and it’s always best to lovingly deal with people regardless of how they affect you, there are certain people I’d rather spend more time with and less time with. I discern who those people will be based on what I see. You seem to assess that discernment as judgment. And maybe it is, but I judge or discern things about people that either draw me to them, possibly in order to facilitate my growth, or make me less desirous of spending time with them. It is about determining whether a person is a good or bad fit for me on my spiritual journey. It’s not about anyone being ‘good or bad’. I do the best I can to treat everyone as lovingly as I can, and step aside when people are being abusive or hurtful, and inwardly offer compassion but staying out of their way. I try not to judge people as good or bad (although I’m not always successful at that). Bit I just discern whether I care to get close or not. And yes, the people who affect me negatively are opportunities to see parts of myself that need a light shined on them. I’m always grateful for that. But until I work that out, I don’t want to spend all my time with people who keep pushing my buttons. I wondered what you thought of that perspective.

    • @polyglotta1
      @polyglotta1 4 роки тому +2

      I can relate to this. The people you spend the most time with tend to influence you a lot so it makes sense to gravitate towards those you want to become like. My lack of discernment in this area never did me any favours, it just wore me out !

    • @koifish777
      @koifish777 3 роки тому +2

      I would draw the line between judgment and discernment as being between an elevation of self and opportunity to put someone else down (judgment) vs. a simple analysis of someone (discernment). you can look at the flaws and negative or positive attributes within someone else without attaching them to yourself in anyway. It’s natural and correct to draw yourself towards energy that fits you best and that you resonate with but unnatural to judge and mental demean others for their own outlook or output. Just a thought
      Cheers !

It's bizarre and really counter intuitive. I wish people could heal themselves! I understand this in the abstract, and I agree. However, there are those who have committed horrible acts including potentially criminal acts and then subsequently wrap themselves in spiritual cloaks and declare themselves spiritual. I have known parents guilty of kidnapping their children and then heading out on a spiritual path with a mantra of "don't judge me!" I very often see spirituality as a very convenient manner in which to exonerate oneself from all responsibility for one's actions. In another video the concept of self acceptance is discussed, to me self acceptance must include absolute responsibility for all of one's actions before offering to the world one's spiritual bona fides. Does this make sense?

    when it comes to judging someone's spirituality, i definitely agree, its pretty pointless to evaluate anyone but your own's progress, but its important not to throw the baby out with the bathwater (not that youre suggesting we should). sometimes people are nefarious, and you cant always set aside your judgment as by default inaccurate, or a projection. sometimes, you do need to make a call about whats worth keeping in your life, or how close things should be kept. we should just focus on keeping our discernments clear as possible.

    It would seem as if judgment does have a very useful aspect to it that should not be understated. While I don’t believe it is good to judge someone’s value as a person based on an act it is perfectly fine to judge the act itself. If we did not judge anyone at all for anything murders and rapists would be running rampant because no one would stop them if not for the judgment of their acts. Unfortunately we live in a society that is willing to devalue a person entirely once they reach a certain point of committing an act that is deemed beyond a point of redemption. Jail and prison is a fine example of defining a person instead of defining or judging their acts. Norway handles this best by detaining criminals in facilities where they are treated with compassion and will actively work with the person until they are able to be released back into society. They are the extreme examples of how a little compassion can go a long way. Until this world awakens to the truth that someone’s intrinsic value is separate from the value of their acts we will continue to take an eye for an eye.

Love is our common denominator. Being present to ourselves while remaining centered in our heart is how we grow in awareness. You explained this so beautifully. We're all a work in progress. Recognizing that within ourselves which we perceive externally is an important part of waking up. Love to you and all on your path.

    I used to have compassion and help others because I once was there and I understand how hard it is to be there and feel alone. But then I got used and judged because I didn't know some stuff or I refused to help some people because sometimes you can only help someone so much before you yourself become so drained. Now I just hate others and don't care to help people. And when I do say anything I just sound crazy. But this video has helped me on better understanding judgement as so many people say they don't judge others but I find that hard to believe as we are only human and judging others is a big part of what we do rather we do it knowingly or unknowingly, we're doing it. Ive been just keeping to myself lately and working in healing myself as it's an everyday process. Thank you for your videos! It's good to hear someone being genuinely honest and not some "I'm enlightened and reached the light" and blah blah.

    Through my experience in life, and this is just my belief. Religion and spirituality are to different things. Religion to me is a set of rules or laws that you except to live by to belong to that cult, which ever one you choose. Weather you are spiritual or not is not for someone else to determine. Only the individual who is on there own journey into or in spirituality can know when, how and how deeply it flows through them. For my spirituality is always there but on different levels at different times and I am the only one who can truly know.

    Judgment is a curious concept I care little about defining or categorizing. Each instance is its own, with variables and moving parts. That said, I make no claim to perfection, at times still finding myself in the grasp of uncentered reactiveness, cycling through awareness and not. But isn’t that the beauty of it all? Because once that is known within, it becomes known without. Namaste.

    Allow them to be where they are, we shouldn't expect anything else from them. I have been struggling with that : trying not to be upset by my husband who regularly judges other people 😕 i told myself many times the exact same thing you said : i am juging him for being judgemental and that sounds not too reasonable. I guess sometimes, we think that judging someone for a "bad" behavior only shows we disapprove the behavior when in actuality, it shows we disapprove the person. But the person is not the behaviors... 🤔❤

    I can't stop judging non vegans. I've tried but I can't, I just feel totally alone, I don't belong anywhere right now. It's about animal liberation and justice, how can I not judge an injustice.

      I see it as culture many ppl have bonded over traditional foods. And it's a part of them - that's one way to view it. Also, ppl shift mindset on thier own time just as I have caught myself in certain things no longer serving me or those around me. I still eat meat but to a minimum. And my mom cooked beautiful authentic dishes that I still eat. I try and be more aware if I do buy animal products that they are ethical as much as possible.

    I found this subject very helpful, words have a way of Penetrating our hearts and our minds , as you speaking I could feel my mind trying to sort out and compartmentalize where they belong somewhere in my heart or mind ..
