Love the tech in new cars, but I wonder how long it will last before it needs endless trips to the dealer for expensive diagnostic fault finding. Then huge bills for new tyre pressure modules etc. Well made electronics can last decades, but will they use quality stuff that lasts past the warranty period?
Most likely not. Depending on the brand but they all started using as cheap as possible and charge more for their products. Especially cars after covid are not put together as well as before.
That’s why these are lease machines duh
@@TermlessHGW Its a shame as they will end up in scrapyards. I like to look after my vehicles and keep them, getting too hard to fix them now as you need specialist equipment to access the ECU to run the diagnostics. The old scan tools just wont work. Not great for the environment loads of cars being dumped after only a few years, then a load more resources needed to make a new one. When a car company decides to charge a subscription for heated seats you know things are going downhill.
People who buy this car they just enjoy it, they dont think how much will last the tech🤣

Never been a massive fan of the 7 series but this has hands down changed the interior game!
Love the classy touches and the screen at the back, most definitely would consider one
I think that if the previous beautiful 7 series cars didn't exist then this would be OK. I loved when every item on BMWs and Mercedeses had a purpose, now they just keep adding toys screens and bling and highly patterned leather in the seats and Las Vegasy lights and touches to keep their buyers from getting bored. It is a business after all and it's working for them.
The i7 imo looks cool. Although not eye catchy.
I think the only thing that really saves this car is the interior
They should use this grill and frontal design purely for Chinese sales and have another (in my opinion) better looking version for the European market...

The i7 comes with 4 wheels and an engine too, this car doesn't have it but I've seen it and i love it -Rory

It's a very ugly car that has very useless features. BMW has done everything but focused on making The Ultimate DRIVING Machine
They have deviated so far from their prime, now they are just a badge for suburbanites.

There are two types of people. People who like bmw & the ones that use indicators! I like the look of it from the side you change the camera angle & its a fail. Yeah, lets light up the grill so even people from a distance can see you your a knob who drives a beaver. Too much faff on the interior I don't want some shite to change colour but seats look great! Give me proper buttons to press so I'm not distracted from what I am supposed to be doing......driving! So, you can control the sound system & the blinds from the rear? Good job bmw, another thing the children can annoy their parents with! How much will it cost me to charge at todays electricity prices? As my Uncle once said, "the more shit you have got on your car, the more shit there is to go wrong"! Tell me he is wrong! Fake sound? NO! I drive an Audi S5 Convertible.....A proper car!

Did Bangle’s son design this? As a former 4 BMW owner, I’m just not about those hippo nose grills.
It immediately reminded me of the 2001 E65. I hated that one, I don't like this one either. I think I'll sit this one out and go with the S class.

Bmw biggest market for the 7 series is China... So designing a 7 series is for everyone else's taste is not top priority🤷🏻♂️
The styling of the new 7’s has grown on me strangely. And the interior is amazing
The interior seems impressive on the surface. Personally I find it too blingy and if recent BMWs are any indication, half of it won't be working in 10 years time.
That thing looks like an armored vehicle that should be on its way to Ukraine.
We forget that BMW has designed this car with the Asian, specifically the Chinese market in mind, where they love the big grills and size. This car's target market isn't Europe.
In my opinion it feels like they have built it on a Rollce Royce Ghost and then slimmed it to make it a BMW. The tech is sufficient but it still falls behind the range offered on an S-class.
I had been expecting this car but I was really disappointed when the official images were released

What bmw tried to do here is they put the grill from a rabbit’s teeth and headlights from Citroen C4 Grand picasso which is a good looking car
200 miles really isn’t much. I mean you’ll be looking for a charger well before you run out. So really you’ve got 150 miles of range or less than 2 hours of motorway driving…
How are you getting 200, he literally said it’s quoted at 370ish which would mean likely around 300 motorway speed range .
At 12:33 he says the most he’s managed is 2miles/kWh, 100kwh battery equals 200 mile range. And that’s not even at motorway speed. So I guess your looking at closer to 100 mile real world usable range… ridiculous for such an expensive car

im really forcing myself to watch this video. The looks is horrid, only really JUST gets by on there suv's. Again only reason why I'm watching it Rory your just good at reviewing cars. Believed in you from the get go but this is a tough one. The toughest challenge you've encountered, convincing us this is a great car. You got me till I looked at that front end again. You should have just blurred out that front end through the hole vid. 😂
S8 is more comfortable, better drivers car, and the s-class does everything else. 7 series is lesser

I saw one in the flesh the other day and it isn’t bad at all. It has presence and looks different. If you want something normal and boring looking, then get an A8. I think it will grow on people like the Chris Bangle 7 series did from back in the days. I really hate EVs of any sort but as a BMW fan, I can make a small exception. I would have a 7 series over an S class and A8. I think it’s great.
Chris Bangle’s 7 series is still ugly. People just got used to seeing it’s weird face, not they grew fond of it.

Exactly. I absolutely have zero interest in the A8. S Class is alright. The 7 Series, however, actually looks awesome. Much more interesting and looks like the designers actually cared to make it stand out.

It has tech to compensate for the problem that was created by dumb push for EV, without infrastructure and operational technology for it. You will do 250 do 300 motorway miles if you don't drive like the german executive express was engineered to be driven(which is 100, 120 mph). And then you will wait half an hour on 50-100 kW chargers(good luck finding 200, 300 kW at your will) to get another 100 miles of range, while watching Netflix in the back of the car. All this stuff is designed for China first(as BMWs own press material says) and it shows(like that ugly grille and 50 inch TVs in the back to watch 2 hours movies; who does that, realistically, that wants The Ultimate Driving Machine's flagship EV saloon?
Yeh, it's much better car than EQS but is not particulary useful for Western World(or some of its tech isn't).

As a design piece it looks like it came right from a videogame render...and a low budget one !!!
The problem with "STYLE" is that it goes away with time...very...very fast.
It might be a novel design now but in two years it will look dated, plain...bland.

I don't get this BIG-TOUCHSCREEN-EVERYWHERE trend... We have bigger and more responsive screens at home, for a fraction of the price of these ridiculously priced options in luxury cars. Do I really need to zoom in on random skyscrapers on Google Maps inside my car? Is that worth thousands of pounds?
smartest thing you could do is have it in all black. tones the unattractive front end look down at least.
That aside, EVERYONE has complained of how impractical BMW's infotainment/HVAC is with the lack of buttons. I hope they're listening.

“Challenging” = “Ugly”. I never grew to love Bangle’s E60 5 series and I’m absolutely positive I’ll never love this. So much scope, squandered…!
I think the new 7 series definitely looks awkward in lighter colours, but my god, in the right colourway it's stunning. BMW has done a lot in recent years to push the status quo on design, love it or hate it at least they're trying
Black is good. It's then you won't see most of the design features and that grille.

To me, a good design doesn’t need any explanation whatsoever to make you like it. Either it speaks to you, or it doesn’t. In my opinion, this 7 series is hideous. The front face is slaughtered by this huge kidney grill and the head lights have no personality (no matter how much bling they could throw in them). The rear is bland and the heart shape in the triangles on the side…really BMW?
The interior is a total different story. The design here doesn’t need any justification; it just wows (OMG, this screen).
Last, the driving experience on electric cars with all these fake noises is plain stupid in general. Having to shell out a stockpile of cash to pay Hans Zimmer himself to design the sound signature… really BMW? The touch control everything trend has to stop. It’s counter-intuitive and worse, it’s dangerous. Please bring back physical control. They can look and feel cool way better flat and soulless screens.

Sorry, the looks of this car are awful. Plus the 7 series has not really changed that much over the last 20 yrs. Same boot indentations, same side profile (like a brick) and side creases. What has changed is that horrendous grill. So while others have dedicated E bodies sculptured for low battery placement, BMW have the standard body? Ridiculous manufactured sounds through the speakers, super sized screen in the back mainly for one person, where there are also buttons on the door that my 9 yr old grandson would have a ball with - really! What are BMW smoking these days?
"I'm falling for the big grill design". Mate, you will fall through these every growing drains, if you are not careful.
(BMW made it clear: China is the main market and they have a different perception of the brand there, less sporty)

The problem isn’t that it’s not a good car, and that the interior isn’t lovely and it drives nicely. The problem is we’re constantly giving BMW excuses for making ugly cars. Why on earth would you wanna be seen in that, why do BMW designers keep getting a free pass. Their newer cars are absolutely disgusting even the M3. As much as I love the concept of the Touring I couldn’t buy on and look out at the drive and see it’s front goofy teeth looking like Mater the tow truck from cars. Same with this it’s face is ugly. That’s the issue BMW need to get new designers.

So this is what modern car design has come to? You can even look at it for 5 second and see 5 unwanted pieces and breaks in the design. We are nowadays forced to like a car design and let it grow on us. Whereas you could see a 3 series back in the day for 10 second and fall in love with it for the rest of your life. Sad

Sorry, but if you think you need to explain a car to make it look good, than something is clearly wrong. A car should not have to have anyone explain it, but look striking all on its own. That is the essence of automotive "I need to turn my head" beauty. This car right here is simply overdesigned and should never have been permitted past some crazy design studies imo. The truly sad bit is that the olden BMW 7 Series started of as these elegant, light and slim pretty looking sporty limousines and we now have to look at this tanks which have nothing to do with the classic debonair 7 DNA. In this sense, the 7 we see here must not be looked at as the next sexy 7 but much rather as a Frankenstein mutant. So 0/10
The car certainly has a presence on the road. From the rear 3/4 view it sure looks monumental. But otherwise it's an ugly car with a face not even a mother can love. It's also filled to the brim with gimmicks that are masked as luxuries but will go bad in 4-5 years' time. I get that the target market for this car are people that will be switching to the facelift/new version as they come, but anyway.
Rory seems to defend the looks of this car by pointing out all the gimmicks it has, and saying we're heartless and emotionless if we don't like it, all the while one having nothing to do with the other. There's very little useful in this car that any other large high end sedan doesn't already offer, and the rest are half baked features made for flash effect. By the time that native 8k content arrives, the mechanism for that TV is gonna be serviced 7 times.
This design language BMW is going for is only there to stir up conversation around their cars and is made to be polarizing. And the head designer basically said so in an interview when he said (I'm paraphrasing) "most revolutionary ideas were polarizing," which is always an excuse when someone does something stupid and generally regarded as useless.
To think this monstrosity was built by the same company that made the E39. I'm sure it's a very capable car, but the nuveau richeness of it makes me nauseous. The touch controls are also ridiculous. Personally I'd buy an ioniq 6.
Two things
1 justifying it's look at this price is in acceptable, it is ugly and 2 without the big screen the interior is just 😴😴😴 I Rather prefer the Mercedes s580e, and if you can check out that car

I have seen data sales of this brand new BMW. It is important that no matter how cutting edge the car, ugly design don't sell. Merc S-Class sold about 5 times more than this BMW.
The car is great, but the design is the worst I have ever seen from BMW.
I guess all the new BMWs are ugly as hell. The iX the new M2... all of them. But this one is on top of the ugly scale for sure.

Why has BMW designed an EV and saddled it with an humongous grille that is not even required on an EV?
They should have gone down the Mercedes route and designed a bespoke EV if they were serious about competing in this segment.

Strangely, the front seems to have an old-fashioned elegance mixed into it.
I've ended up with more of a problem with the rear than the front...

The headlights of an old Jeep Cherokee or modern $30k Hyundai. I think they're even worse than the grill
It’s a big departure from the previous generation (G12) and I hated it when it debuted, but in person and in black it has a very nice road presence. Plus the interior is gorgeous. I still prefer the G12 however, especially in Alpina B7 form

I think this is the worst looking car bmw have ever brought out, normally I’m all for the daring styling but to my eye this design doesn’t gel together at all.
I saw one in real life, even my mom said it looked terrible... I love the 2018 grill look, but this split design looks strange.
the previous 7 was crisp, this is architectural and stately
