Loved this episode! I've gotten my brain scanned at Dr Amen's Seattle clinic, and found out that I have a PTSD brain (diamond pattern) and a lot of inflammation. It was one of the most insightful experiences I've had. They showed me my brain scan next to a healthy one in comparison, and it was night and day difference. Very validating to see an actual image of my unhealthy brain (vs just answering questions of what my symptoms are). So interesting to see areas that have too much blood flow, and areas that don't have enough. Dr Amen is awesome.
I just returned from Madrid where i fell down a flight of cement steps leading downstairs to the metro train… this was last week Thursday and today is Monday and I’m back home in Chicago. Now all I have is the ringing in my left ear and a sense of soreness in the left side of my head. I rolled down sideways hard and had an injury above my left eyebrow bleeding that kept going til the ambulance arrived and treated me and they asked if I wanted to be transported to the hospital but of course I had no insurance to be treated over there. I’m going to see how I can be seen and have a spect scan of my brain 👍
Hello brothers and sisters. I would just like to recommend that everyone read the book ‘Raising Warriors: Preparing Your Children For a Godly Life’. Reading that book was the best desicion I ever made.
As a mom of two boys I can tell you this is 💯 so spot on … I’m raising two boys and it’s hard as a parent because there is such a focus in todays society on just children’s emotions but as a mom you have to realize it’s so much more then just emotions it’s also thinking about how do I raise a mentally resilient kid that will need to know how to make it through life and I’ve taken a lot of what he says and have done it with my boys and it’s almost just like it instills common sense in your kids… it also gives them the confidence that they are capable and they can do hard things so just want to say that there are so many good nuggets of wisdom here!
Every statement from Dr.Amen was gold. One of the most insightful podcasts I’ve ever heard, thank you for doing this! I want everyone I know to watch this episode and learn from it
I wish I can have you in my birth country DR Amen to help all the children’s that are growing up with out parents and are with families that don’t even want then, I really will love to be able to help children’s lest fortune because they are also part of the future❤
I actually have Jim Fays book, How to Discipline Kids without Losing Their Love and Respect. Its a great book and an introduction to love and logic. I love this episode and the great information Dr. Amen provides. As a parent I find this so helpful and I really appreciate you having him on your podcast to share all his wisdom with us all ❤❤❤
I like Dr. Amen's approach to brain health, and I am also behind on letting kids solve their own problems. Late did I realise that one of the things that had kept me behind in life was my mum doing everything for me (she didn't know better), which made me feel incompetent for long. With this said, the "Love and Logic" approach he mentions really does NOT resonate with me. It assumes kids try to manipulate parents, for example. As a neuroscientist who's seen tens of thousands of brain scans, he surely knows that a small child has not developed the brain areas capable of manipulating yet. I believe compassionate role modelling is the way.
Here are some key takeaways for parents from this video: * Prioritize brain health: Dr. Amen emphasizes the importance of considering brain health in parenting, which is often overlooked in favor of psychological and social factors. He highlights that the brain develops until age 25, underscoring the need for supervision and understanding the impact of substances like marijuana and alcohol on brain development. * Active listening: Encourage parents to practice active listening by repeating back what their child says without judgment, fostering open communication and understanding the emotions behind their words. * Setting boundaries: Dr. Amen advises parents to set clear boundaries and avoid giving in to tantrums. He suggests responding with firmness and kindness, establishing consistent expectations for children. * Positive reinforcement: He encourages parents to notice and acknowledge good behavior in their children, drawing a parallel to how a penguin trainer reinforces positive actions. This approach helps children feel valued and encourages them to repeat desirable behaviors. * Forgiveness: Dr. Amen acknowledges that all parents make mistakes and emphasizes the importance of forgiveness in maintaining a healthy parent-child relationship. These points provide a framework for raising mentally strong and well-adjusted children by incorporating brain health, effective communication, and positive reinforcement strategies.
What are the 175 foods that the kid with tics loves and love him back? I'd love to know because this has been an issue for me when trying to improve our diet at home. My kids and I have bad eating habits but it's been a struggle for me to get them to eat healthier.
Such a good interview… but multiple ads in the podcast itself is such a turn off .. maybe only one or at the beginning or end. Only reason bt subscribing
I don’t do nice things for people who don’t treat me with respect…wow I love that!

Advertising in between an interview is very disturbing.
