The "alien anger gauge" might be scary, but it's extremely satisfying to see the xeno dead and pretty funny to think that after spending a long time in their alien tin cans on their trip to Earth, all they got from it was bullets to the face. Great series, great game.

I suspect the Illusive Man was never really intended to be the actual villain. But ME3 was kind of the Last Jedi of the series. I feel like… they actually didn’t have any idea how the creator intended it to go.

@@elijahsnow3119 We do know the original intention and pieces of it are still in ME2 - the FTL drive people use is rapidly aging suns. The Reapers show up periodically, woken up when people FTL around the place enough to find the Citadel, then come in and wipe everyone out. Giving the next generation of species the chance to have their time in the sun. If they didn't periodically kill everyone, FTL use would proliferate to the point where there's nothing of the galaxy left for any future species. But somewhere after ME1 someone decided that not having a *villain* was not going to work for a *franchise* (because everything needs to be franchise and can't ever end) so they had to crowbar in a new plot.
Engaging aliens as targets of opportunity essentially functions as a pre-emptive strike, just like with other councilors, if you deny them presence to do their tasks, it effectively slows down whatever they are up to.

Mercury being very hard to reach (even from Earth, let alone from somewhere in the outer system) is very much true in real life. In fact it's so hard to reach Mercury that it's more fuel efficient to raise your orbit to Jupiter and from there lower it again which sounds really counter-intuitive but works.
Casually fixing the nations under your control while preparing doom for the aliens. Maybe i have to fabricate an alien invasion just for Perun to become our glorious world leader - bring the planet on track with power point presentations.

You mentioned that the developer is thinking of adding a Cold War scenario to this game. I'm wondering if they might think of adding a pre-World War 2 scenario as something a bit crazy but interesting, with the alien spacecraft crashing in the equivalent of New Jersey in 1938, like Orson Welles' infamous War of the Worlds radio broadcast that some people thought was a real alien invasion. The Germans, of course, had their own rocket program, as did the Soviet Union, while the USA, Britain, France and Italy all had rocket and theoretical space travel experts. There was even a Chinese national attending MIT at the time, Qian Xuesen, who was launching rockets with other rocketry pioneers in 1938 and would go on to work at the Manhattan Project, went to post-war Germany to recruit rocket experts, and designed a space plane that would inspire the X-20 Dyna-Soar. When he was forced to return to China because of the Red Scare, he boosted their rocket and nuclear programs and was something of a Renaissance man, contributing to multiple fields of science, geography, philosophy, literature, art, and education. Lot of organizations and minds that, with alien life proven and Terra Invicta organizations working to prevent the outbreak of World War 2 and stabilize the world, could have boosted space technology far faster than in our timeline. First launch a satellite into orbit, then a human, then go to the moon and onwards from there, while simultaneously building up their military technology to take on the aliens on the ground.

Hey Perun some suggestions on the next steps: 1) You are drowning in resources - sell them for tech and orgs 2) Sell off your Lunar bases 3) Solidify power in Eurasian Union and expand its borders 4) Probe ALL THE THINGS.
Really liking this lets play. I'm torn between wanting you to focus your efforts on this lets play or your geopolitical analysis content. Never thought I'd say that about a youtuber lol. Congrats of being a man of many talents.
A lot of the slower progress is due to the reworked control points. You used to be able to easily control two superpowers (unified EU/USA/China) and not be over the control point limit, now it's quite difficult to even control one superpower at the beginning of the game and even five years in you'd still be over the limit if you only controlled the USA and China. This makes it so you're teching to mars later which gives the AI more time to accumulate the boost required. (although the AI focusing better nations helps here too)
I'm playing as exodus and i have to admit, I'm a bit on the fence about whether I should be saving the planet or not. I mean the planet needs to last long enough for me to gain benefit from it. But also I'm not exactly tied to what happens once I'm gone.

One more reason why Texas was a bad target choice for that Kaijuu: Walker, Texas Ranger. He saw the beastie and roundhouse-kicked it into oblivion. Now the Aliens shall be terrified of Chuck Norris, as is proper. 😇
A major operations hub on Mercury makes more sense than just solar irradiance. The game doesn't model this AFAIK, but Mercury is good for speed of light delay because it's on average the closest planet to every other planet.
I feel like having the US, Russia, and India on the same side means that your eventual world conquest is pretty much guaranteed. If you asked me what my "dream team" would be, it'd probably be the US, Russia, and China, but I feel like picking up India and Israel as replacements is well worth it. Also, can I live in your US? Growing per cap GDP plus lowering inequality sounds like a recipe for an absolutely fantastic place to live.

Problem I have found with detaining then trying to turn is that the faction will just dismiss the councilor which in itself might be useful as tool of denial but not optimal.
Kinda wonder how some of those events -layout on the factions that are more alien friendly. How does one sells giant mega fauna leveling cities as a positive? 🤔
At least in the case seen in the video, and considering the religious nature of the Servants, they'd probably sell it as the aliens using those creatures to punish the aliens' and Servants' enemies, and if you don't want the same thing to happen to you then you better join them. The Protectorate would probably have a harder time, especially if the monster is defeated.
I lost a space space in orbit on earth to servants. How do you protect them in the future and how do you get it back? I sent my high command counciler into orbit to the station but no options illuminated to win it back. I though assault alien asset might be the one.
I think minus loyalty for loyalty tracker is worth it IF you are going with a heavy inspire agent. You can make up for the implant in a couple of rounds and after that you have total knowledge. I wouldn't use it as a general implant, though. But can be nice with a strategy.
Hey, Perun, now that you are more firmly in the space colonization part of the game I have a question. How do the ship-modules that build colony facilities work? I noticed those techs during the demo while checking out the tech tree and the ship building mode, and I wonder how exactly they work compared to the more conventional way to build at sites. Can they restock to build at a second site, is the ship consumed in the process, or does it work some other way, and do you think they are worthwhile?
They are there for outer solar system colonisation where a ship is more practical than boosting something from earth for several years. I'll talk about them at some point.
I don't know about delta-v, but distance-wise, on average, the closest planet to everything in the solar system that orbits the sun is Mercury. Though for things farther from the sun it takes much longer for that average to play out, so they may be much closer or much further for the relevant timeframe.
The aliens are on the edge of the solar system. So getting to Mercury is for them really difficult, as they have to outfit their space ships with larger fuel tanks, so they can reach the most inner planet. That leaves them with not as much space for weapon systems or armour as far as I understand. And it makes their missions to Mercury far more expensive.
The reason it is so expensive for delta-v is that you have to slow down to start falling towards mercury (and the whole while the sun's gravity is pulling you in and aoeeding you up) then you need to drastically change speed again to make the orbit. There is no atmosphere to give you free braking so it's engines all the way.
Mercury is very difficult to get to from Earth too. Especially to reach orbit and not just do a flyby. In part because of its high orbital speed. There have only been three probes to it and it's not just because it's less interesting than Mars. All of them did multiple gravity assists around Earth and Venus to increase their speed which takes years.
Gravity fields are considered conservative fields because in theory the path at which you travel doesn't affect how much energy you need to change orbit. In reality its different as you use 3rd bodies as gravitational slingshots, but the core fact remains. Delta v is the measurement of how much you can change your velocity, that is change kinetic energy. Therefore, the farther stellar objects are from one another in terms of proximity to the sun, the more you need to change your energy.
@PerunGamingAU You have made much of developing the inner solar system and asteroid belt… but there is one conspicuous place missing: Venus. Is the second planet not available for orbital platforms? (I can understand why there might not be any surface establishment options; the Venusian atmosphere makes the surface an extremely hostile place.)
He mentioned in this and the last video. It's less effective at harvesting solar energy than mercury and can't be mined while also being slightly easier for the aliens to reach. So while you have Mercury slots available it seems more reasonable to devote resources to the one with the higher rate of expected return.
There is a reason to turn two of the same faction: If you want to have a pretty high fail rate, you can replace the one that gets discovered and have the faction mess up a lot while still maintaining constant intel Doing this you can completely cripple a faction. Have two of their agents inept, and keep killing the rest.
Just like to share that, as the resistance, I have "purged" the servants twice by turning one of their agents, then assassinating all the other agents they had. The first time they rebuilt.... and took over Russia. So now I do it again.
I haven't played yet, but at the start of this campaign [thanks for letting me know this is in EA now, gotta buy it!] you mentioned the university faction had control of the ISS and China had another. Is it possible to play the university, nab China early, and monopolize orbit for a bit? They're close to Khazakhstan too for that sweet sweet boost.
Academy controls the ISS at game start… but that’s not necessarily a blessing. Since you start with no space income (water, metals, etc.) you have to pay for the ISS’s upkeep in boost. In addition, the Tiangong Space Station starts off with only a station core, which makes it functionally useless without a substantial investment of boost to add onto the station core. Finally, China is the world’s largest GDP at game start. You recall how hard it was for him to break into the US at the beginning of this series? It’s worse with China because they have less allies to add to your stacking bonuses of persuasion when attempting to grab control nodes in China, and the more you do succeed at taking the less you can afford outside of China.
Alien megafauna made a few key mistakes at the beginning of the episode. Alien Kaiju comes out of the sea in… Texas? So in the state that has an estimated 1.4 guns per person? And the US military wasn’t deployed “supervising a referendum” on the other side of the planet? Our laughter is headed your way at muzzle velocity aliens. This would be immortalized in the US on the same level as Iwo Jima or Trenton. It would be in movies for eternities to come.

Looking at other playthroughs, you should also consider expanding the USA into a superstate with Mexico, and Canada within its borders.

A lot of the slower progress is due to the reworked control points. You used to be able to easily control two superpowers (unified EU/USA/China) and not be over the control point limit, now it's quite difficult to even control one superpower at the beginning of the game and even five years in you'd still be over the limit if you only controlled the USA and China. This makes it so you're teching to mars later which gives the AI more time to accumulate the boost required. (although the AI focusing better nations helps here too)
I'm playing as exodus and i have to admit, I'm a bit on the fence about whether I should be saving the planet or not. I mean the planet needs to last long enough for me to gain benefit from it. But also I'm not exactly tied to what happens once I'm gone.

A major operations hub on Mercury makes more sense than just solar irradiance. The game doesn't model this AFAIK, but Mercury is good for speed of light delay because it's on average the closest planet to every other planet.

So what I have learned so far is administration skills is the best skill.
I feel like having the US, Russia, and India on the same side means that your eventual world conquest is pretty much guaranteed. If you asked me what my "dream team" would be, it'd probably be the US, Russia, and China, but I feel like picking up India and Israel as replacements is well worth it. Also, can I live in your US? Growing per cap GDP plus lowering inequality sounds like a recipe for an absolutely fantastic place to live.

Problem I have found with detaining then trying to turn is that the faction will just dismiss the councilor which in itself might be useful as tool of denial but not optimal.
Kinda wonder how some of those events -layout on the factions that are more alien friendly. How does one sells giant mega fauna leveling cities as a positive? 🤔

At least in the case seen in the video, and considering the religious nature of the Servants, they'd probably sell it as the aliens using those creatures to punish the aliens' and Servants' enemies, and if you don't want the same thing to happen to you then you better join them. The Protectorate would probably have a harder time, especially if the monster is defeated.

I lost a space space in orbit on earth to servants. How do you protect them in the future and how do you get it back? I sent my high command counciler into orbit to the station but no options illuminated to win it back. I though assault alien asset might be the one.
I think minus loyalty for loyalty tracker is worth it IF you are going with a heavy inspire agent. You can make up for the implant in a couple of rounds and after that you have total knowledge. I wouldn't use it as a general implant, though. But can be nice with a strategy.
Hey, Perun, now that you are more firmly in the space colonization part of the game I have a question. How do the ship-modules that build colony facilities work?
I noticed those techs during the demo while checking out the tech tree and the ship building mode, and I wonder how exactly they work compared to the more conventional way to build at sites. Can they restock to build at a second site, is the ship consumed in the process, or does it work some other way, and do you think they are worthwhile?
They are there for outer solar system colonisation where a ship is more practical than boosting something from earth for several years. I'll talk about them at some point.
I don't know about delta-v, but distance-wise, on average, the closest planet to everything in the solar system that orbits the sun is Mercury. Though for things farther from the sun it takes much longer for that average to play out, so they may be much closer or much further for the relevant timeframe.
The aliens are on the edge of the solar system. So getting to Mercury is for them really difficult, as they have to outfit their space ships with larger fuel tanks, so they can reach the most inner planet. That leaves them with not as much space for weapon systems or armour as far as I understand. And it makes their missions to Mercury far more expensive.
The reason it is so expensive for delta-v is that you have to slow down to start falling towards mercury (and the whole while the sun's gravity is pulling you in and aoeeding you up) then you need to drastically change speed again to make the orbit. There is no atmosphere to give you free braking so it's engines all the way.
Mercury is very difficult to get to from Earth too. Especially to reach orbit and not just do a flyby. In part because of its high orbital speed. There have only been three probes to it and it's not just because it's less interesting than Mars. All of them did multiple gravity assists around Earth and Venus to increase their speed which takes years.
Gravity fields are considered conservative fields because in theory the path at which you travel doesn't affect how much energy you need to change orbit. In reality its different as you use 3rd bodies as gravitational slingshots, but the core fact remains.
Delta v is the measurement of how much you can change your velocity, that is change kinetic energy. Therefore, the farther stellar objects are from one another in terms of proximity to the sun, the more you need to change your energy.
@PerunGamingAU You have made much of developing the inner solar system and asteroid belt… but there is one conspicuous place missing: Venus. Is the second planet not available for orbital platforms? (I can understand why there might not be any surface establishment options; the Venusian atmosphere makes the surface an extremely hostile place.)
He mentioned in this and the last video. It's less effective at harvesting solar energy than mercury and can't be mined while also being slightly easier for the aliens to reach.
So while you have Mercury slots available it seems more reasonable to devote resources to the one with the higher rate of expected return.

There is a reason to turn two of the same faction:
If you want to have a pretty high fail rate, you can replace the one that gets discovered and have the faction mess up a lot while still maintaining constant intel
Doing this you can completely cripple a faction. Have two of their agents inept, and keep killing the rest.

Just like to share that, as the resistance, I have "purged" the servants twice by turning one of their agents, then assassinating all the other agents they had.
The first time they rebuilt.... and took over Russia. So now I do it again.
A ship equiped with a solar outpost will build your initial outpost (with construction module) much quicker

I haven't played yet, but at the start of this campaign [thanks for letting me know this is in EA now, gotta buy it!] you mentioned the university faction had control of the ISS and China had another. Is it possible to play the university, nab China early, and monopolize orbit for a bit? They're close to Khazakhstan too for that sweet sweet boost.
Academy controls the ISS at game start… but that’s not necessarily a blessing. Since you start with no space income (water, metals, etc.) you have to pay for the ISS’s upkeep in boost. In addition, the Tiangong Space Station starts off with only a station core, which makes it functionally useless without a substantial investment of boost to add onto the station core.
Finally, China is the world’s largest GDP at game start. You recall how hard it was for him to break into the US at the beginning of this series? It’s worse with China because they have less allies to add to your stacking bonuses of persuasion when attempting to grab control nodes in China, and the more you do succeed at taking the less you can afford outside of China.

This would be immortalized in the US on the same level as Iwo Jima or Trenton. It would be in movies for eternities to come.
