I've worked maintenance on golf courses my entire life. I can tell you that there is no shortage of work to be done on golf course ponds / creeks. Golf courses and countey clubs love to hire people that have experience working around fine turf. To ever work on a golf course that has watched and understands your excellent work would be a dream!

Suggestion for you...I worked for a golf course renovation company close to 15 yrs years ago(been on my own for the last twelve)..... next time you need to track across delicate areas, use old tires to run across... we needed to get a D9 across two fairways for a job one time and used tires under the tracks both going in and going out, worked like a charm... just a friendly suggestion.
I wasn't watching the screen close, just listening to the sounds of the machine when I heard something that didn't quite sound like digging dirt, then Chris said " that felt like rock", and I immediately thought "sounded like it too"..

Hi Chris, Have you seen the trash racks that are bigger than the top of the overflow box? They are bigger and hang deeper than the top level so that water still flows under and into the overflow while it still catches all the trash, basically letting the water still flow when the rack gets blocked! Also I wondered why you don't fit two overflows at different levels so that overflow two starts working as an emergency overflow before the spillway is needed?
Ziggy, I think I can answer the second overflow question for ya. If you go through all the trouble to build an emergency spillway...you might as well use it.

That spillway runway design was probably a more attractive - pleasing to the eye, choice over the pipe design, and cost more too. Was it a precast design?
It definitely looks precast, which would also help explain the washout. It was probably chosen so there was no chance of golf balls being lost down a pipe or overflow box.
It's warm season grass you only need a inch or two of soil for it to grow decent. Bermuda or zoysia will grow into concrete or pavement. It's one of those turf grasses but I cant be sure from the machine view, same goes for which cultivar.
John's doing what every good boss should do. Stay out of the way once there is a plan and let your star employee have at it. His jod is to provide support to maximize Chris's efforts.

Chris, here is an idea try and find a heavy ball or a block of steel around 500 to 800 pounds so when yo want to bust up concreate you'll have something to do it with, hope this helps...
Right in the middle of an episode of Bosch on Amazon Prime another episode of Chris at the Golf course fixing a disaster pops up I knew I had to put Amazon on hold and clic over. Yuppers, it was definitely worth it. Chris's pond vids are for some reason mesmerizing. He takes one look and he knows exactly what he abd Uncle John are gonna be facing. Especially if whoever did the original work cut a few to many corners. All that clay around there you'd think they'd have used it to make sure there'd never be a washout problem. Most likely keep it cheap budget committee let someone else in the future worry about it screwup.

How do you calculate the hourly cost of the excavator? Is there a formula that shows cost and depreciation, repairs? Do you work off a base Hourly price of operation when you quote work? or is it just a contract price? Seems like when you buy that Volvo new, you would know, " I have this much work I can do before I need a new machine".

We have a dam failing at the course I work at. Leaks slowly and gets pretty empty between rains.
That little bit of ( what looks like # 3 rebar) sure made it more difficult, I would be more use to going at it with a jackhammer and wheel barrow. To bad you couldn't go to Ikea and get another one.
Maybe if you got some of those new rubber teeth to go on your bucket, that concrete would be easier to pick up. More grippy.
Chris you do very beautiful jobs I have heard you say if you can't make it pretty you won't do it .so I know what goes threw your mind when you to do repairs like that one.

How do you calculate the hourly cost of the excavator? Is there a formula that shows cost and depreciation, repairs? Do you work off a base Hourly price of operation when you quote work? or is it just a contract price? Seems like when you buy that Volvo new, you would know, " I have this much work I can do before I need a new machine".

To be fair, it wasn't breaking itself up...the concrete part was fine, but the implementation of the structure left a little to be desired.
I was surprised the 160 had the nads to pick up that large first hunk of concrete…it labored but did it..probably had to use the Volvo extra power button?
That looked like a mess . But the right crew was on the job to take care of it
With the amount of cement you buried, you could get a job with D.R. Horton. Although they don't bury it when done building a house, they just put sod right on top of it... Hahaha
You want some of the clay we got in the UK. It's so thick and gungy the canal's we built with it are still there after hundreds of years. One of them is nearly 2000 years old.

While I'm sure the grounds keepers are understanding. They are going to hate you all the same. Overall you cost them A thousand hours of labor to put the course back to pristine condition.
Only Chris would spend a few relaxing days at the golf course... in the water hazards.... They will look nice again once they are fixed.. not to mention a little dredged.
