- The K1v is a FREE VST plugin that is a recreation of the Kawai K1. It has all factory presets and all ROM cards. It can even send sysex to an original Kawai K1. The video explains how to download and install it, how the sounds are built up, how to create new sounds and we play some of the sounds at the end.
This is a great K1 simulator, and it is totaly free, wow.

I sat in the basement at Kawai California along with Rich Godinez and two other guys and programmed the factory patches for the release version. This VST is incredibly authentic. I believe because the original didn't have effects to clone. I enjoy this thing for its character and "faults". Nothing else sounds like the K1. Which is why I still have one, and this VST. However, I've noticed there are several patches that turn up missing in the newer downloads, even from Kawai. I suppose the names or sounds are non-pc. I should have kept all my sysex.
How great is it to read this information. I worked at Kawai Netherlands at that time.
This is the best synth I’ve ever used. The sounds are really good. I’ve used it for at least two different genres.

This Synth Is very dear to my heart it was one of the first synths we used in our band at the time along with the M1 Korg, Sound Canvas SC55's, XP50's, and JV1080's amazing sounds at the time. Thanks for the video you have brought us back together .....

Oh this is perfect.... I am setting up Reaper for my son and me, and I just realize how much I need synthesizer sounds... especially all the great 80's effects. THANK YOU!

This really is a fabulous synth and I recommend it to all! I followed the development and it's amazing what one, with a little help from forum-friends can achieve! It's very true to the original, is much more reliable and easier to edit because of the better overview of controls!

A great plugin. I downloaded it a few weeks ago, but later could not find it. Thought I had deleted it. Then I stumbled on it while going through all my folders and files. Now I can't remember where it is. I will search again, this time copying it and putting it where I can access when needed. It has plenty of great sounds. I've downloaded enough synths and other plugins to last a lifetime, so now I just look for tutorials. Thanks. This has been so helpful.
Thanks for making me aware of yet another great free synth vst. There are so many free synth vsts out there, there's just no time to use them all, even if I only use the really good ones! 😊 I'm starting to think that with all the amazing free synth vsts out there, I may never buy a commercial synth vst again. At least, not at full price.
You are totally right. There are so many free synths out there, and some are really great. Like this one. I was really surprised!
yes the market is hard due to the free ones, is one said great sell for 1 $ by his author since mars 2020
One of the very best plugins I've ever used, fantastic! As a beginner on keyboards, it's still easy to use and get phenomenal sounds from. 5+stars!

Can anyone tell me how I can use it as an editor for the K1r? I simply don't know how to get the VST to send sysex parameter changes to the actualy hardware.
I'm not sure it's possible but if it is, in Cubase you would open an instance of K1. Then on another MIDI track in your DAW, set the input to be the K1 and output to be the external midi socket and channel your K1 is on. Then enable both midi tracks and tweak away, playing notes on the K1 but tweaking the VST

The piano sounds are best avoided. The K1 can do many great things, but piano is not one of them! 😅

As far as I understand the creator had contact with Kawai and they even helped him. How nice of Kawai.
