It can matter in DCS World and Flight Simulator 2020. Most of DCS’ community recommends at leasf 32GB RAM if you fly in multiplayer servers. So you’d want to assign 32GB unified memory in a Parallels VM. You can also look up examples showing FS2020’s RAM usage exceeding 32GB. But we don’t know well DCS works in Parallels and CrossOver. Flight Simulator 2020 doesn’t work in Parallels. 32GB can mean the difference between massive slowdown or crashing especially for DCS.

Even with these new macs a lot of reviewers have been like “you don’t wana game on these, it’s a mac you can’t game etc etc.” I feel like it misses the point. Nobody is buying the macs explicitly for gaming, but being able to casually play a game or two on the go or something between work is a nice little feature to have. It doesn’t have to be the best experience(for the best experience, you would go to your pc desktop or gaming laptop) - but it is nice to have a break or something at school or at work and maybe play something for 20 minutes on the Mac.
Really wish Tim Apple would splash that cash to draw more native mac ports. The hardware is more than capable enough now, it's just the varying quality of shims and translation layers.
It would be nice if Apple just supported Vulkan though. Apple is the queen of architecture independent development the fact they don’t is just mind numbing. Nvidia’s gonna get on the SoC train and AMD already is, Apple’s not gonna maintain a performance per watt advantage so they can’t be wasting performance on all these layers.

If you're using it for editing videos or graphic design and don't mind using Apple software then the performance will be amazing. The m1 is really just held back by its architecture and os. Had they figured out a way to make it x86 with that same power draw it would be so much more practical.
@@skurasch You don't know anything about microprocessors. Gaming consoles also fall far behind in power vs gaming PCs that have dedicated GPUs. Dedicated GPU will always be more powerful. Games for gaming consoles are also highly optimized, not so much for these new Mac chips cause not many game on Mac in the first place.
@@teemuvesala9575 who are you even replying to? You sir are quite confused.
I think it's been asked a few times but I didn't see an answer, and many of us are very interested to know for your future testing of the M1 Pro: which are you testing? 8c+14gpu, 16GB? Or the 10c+16gpu, 16GB? Or 32GB? Thank you so much for you hard work, it is greatly appreciated!
It’s m1 max with 10c + 32gpu with 32gigs of ram
@@CraftyShadow1 I re-worded my question, I think it wasn't clear that I was asking about what config he'd be doing for the M1 Pro model he's getting in. In the vid description he said the M1 Pro will be this weekend or next week.
I was waiting for a long long long time for this video, you are awesome
Incredible video. Your production quality is top notch. Thank you!
What is the memory usage during these tests? I’m wondering if 64gb memory improves the performance at all.
Of course no, which game use 64gb?
It can matter in DCS World and Flight Simulator 2020. Most of DCS’ community recommends at leasf 32GB RAM if you fly in multiplayer servers. So you’d want to assign 32GB unified memory in a Parallels VM. You can also look up examples showing FS2020’s RAM usage exceeding 32GB. But we don’t know well DCS works in Parallels and CrossOver. Flight Simulator 2020 doesn’t work in Parallels.
32GB can mean the difference between massive slowdown or crashing especially for DCS.
@@goldmastersimulations oh, for some reason I thought about 64gb gpu ,but in any case, I think there is not enough performance gpu for the game,to use 32gb memory...
Nice video as always Mr MacRight
As an avid player of Path of Exile on my gaming pc (and buying one of these new machines soon) I'd love to see data on that if at all possible! (it's free to play on steam)
You can run PoE smoothly(60+ fps) even on original M1, so good news for ya
This is the exact video I've been waiting for. Thank you.
I really hope they have a Apple TV with 16-32 gpu like max , there are so many games that can run on it and it would be the smallest game console at 10 teraflops
I hope they add a remote with 32 GPU like max. can't wait
This video was much needed thank you!
This is very very informative. Thank you for sharing mate. Cheers.
“Its the new Apple M1 Max Mr Potter”. Severus Snape
Been refreshing your channel waiting for this video!
@@Freshbott2 Agreed. Developers might not want to risk millions building off a third party MoltenVK shim.
The performance is brilliant! Really impressed. Thanks for showing.
What an amazing easy to watch and wholesome video made professionally.
what I would like to be able to play on my new Macbook Pro M1 Max 14 inches, are the following
1. PUBG
2. Apex Legends
3. Rocket League
4. EuroTruck Simulator 2
I believe the last one is possible, for the rest, I doubt. I wish though it will be
Great Vidoe, thanks for showing all of this! I have a new M1 Max 64GD and looking to see what I can play, honestly I've always built gaming PC's but since I'm older I don't have the time anymore(kids, work, life etc.). I have an iPhone, air pods ad wanted to try the MacBook. Been playing Baldur's Gate III and I'm definitely enjoying it!
I have been waiting for this ever since the new MacBooks were announced.. let's go!!!
awesome! been waiting for Native M1 games!
Good Job,Professor Snape!
Can you test Final Fantasy 14 on one of those in some future video? I’d be really grateful, it’s the only game I play nowadays and if these macs can run it, they would be a great buy for me. :)
Thanks for the these detailed testing!
Is there a plan to do the same review on other x86 win app besides of games?
like run a windows x86 VM could be interesting?
I hope it will be a standart in the future to include easy porting on m1 in game engines
This hardware may finally be the tipping point to get more game publishers to prioritize Mac ports. I hope so!
The market share is to small it won't and I would not get your hope up
@@crkane33 I dunno - there have always been a smattering of AAA ports. I already have Baulders Gate 3 - I didn't realize they had a Mac port. By the time I get my machine in two weeks it sounds like the latest patch should be out for the M1 - should be fun to see how it's progressing with some friends with that incredible display.
You have captured gameplay from 25 games under M1 Max?! soo fast, well done! ^_^
Brilliant in-depth analysis, thank you. I'm going the way of M1 Max for architectural CAD/graphics/photographic work (replacing an aged 2014 MacBook Pro Retina) but glad to this it's going to keep my occasional gaming habit alive too - and hopefully more games will be adapted/made to use Apple Silicone! It'l be like the difference between night and day! Bonus is - low energy use and quiet/cool running in a portable form :-)
Thank you a lot for all the testing!
Totally agree with your conclusions. Thanks for the video.
I preorder the M1 max, 64 gb mem, 32 gpu with 4tb ssd but the 14 inch version. Portability for once and in home I can connect it to my xdr display. Did you had any terrible fan noise while playing those games because with my current 16” i9, every time I play, it sounds like a Boeing 767.
you'll be fine with the fan noice, I played Borderlands 3 today for about an hour on my 16 m1 max and the fan is hearable but in a quiet way. Nothing like the i9 macbooks! So you won't have any issues with the fan noice for sure.
Professor Snape???????? You're alive!!!!!!!!!!!
Nice video btw.
Age of Empires 4 came out the day you posted this video. One of the most anticipated games of the year. I doubt it will work on the M1 chip but would be great if you did a video on it?
Thanks for your effort man! I have not seen any video regarding Call of Duty Warzone via Parallels. Have you tested it?
So in other words, the M1 Max is a monster.
great video! thank you so much! How do you record your videos? i see, ur getting a lot of FPS, can you tell me?
thanks for the work you put into the research and the video! It would be interesting to see, how much the same model with 64GB RAM would perform in comparison
What about M2 Max pro? Will it be run on M2 max?. Will it be working. I have asked Parallels they said GTA V is not compatible with M2 Max chip.
I still haven’t seen anyone on youtube cover the performance of MS Flight Simulator 2020 on the m1 max.
pls add power consumption ... as this is one of the killer feature of the m1 !
thank you
This is the video i've been loking for
Great video! Thank you for your hard work!
Thanks a bunch! Finally got benchmarks for dos2 and baldur's gate 3.
outstanding effort, props to you!
If you've got an m1 max for a different reason than just gaming this is good news, but if you bought a mac specifically for gaming I'm confused you could have a machine that performs just the same for like 1500$ instead of 3500$
Hello thanks for the video! Is it possible for you to make a video about playing NATIVE iOS games on your MacBook Pro M1+ chip? Would be appreciated to see, if Marvel Strike Force is available to play Native. We are missing out videos regarding this.
Great video! Being a pc guys since the missing extension days. It's very detailed and done in a very neutral by the numbers.
There is no doubt that Apple has a very competitive SOC on their hands, because you can't separate any part of it. I especially enjoyed the native mac portion of it.
These are impressive results from a newcomer in the power house field like apple.
Absurd performance. Considering the price of GFX cards nowadays, a Valve Proton based system optimized for Mac and some other details would make this a killer gaming experience.
Did this guy hit up some helium or something?
Good vid tho
Thank you Professor Snape!
I think a lot of these games haven't been optimized for the new processor yet
This. The hardware is incredible, but the software is poorly designed for the most part. It's like comparing Premiere Pro and Final Cut. Final Cut is made by Apple for OSX, and it wipes the floor with Premiere Pro, on OSX or Windows (even on older hardware).
@@77dris I agree with you completely
Can't wait to buy this only $1750 to go.... Why am I still here
This is amazing, but please don't stop testing base M1 games
Awesome, Thanks for the video!
It really sounds like you're speaking straight into a fan
When he started I thought it was the man from Harry Potter
Did you record the FPS while screen recording?
Love how you click the abilities in WoW with the mouse :D
My CSGO is native on m1 chip and the default graphic is high. The fps is around 60 - 80
