Mercedes sprinter 312D w903 2.9d starting problem fixed

Suddenly this reliable engine did want to start. Battery changed, fuel filter changed,
Bosch Esi diagnostic software used. Lots of small failures deleted. Showed 1223 failure. And that was the fuel pump electrical connection. Upon first inspection no problem. Then fuel above injectors checked, resistance on heating plugs checked, voltage On heating plugs checked, screw on fuel pump checked. All fuses checked. And finally again electrical connection to high pressure fuel pump/ HPFP. The red/black power supply cable to fuel pump broke off due to corrosion. Engine started spinning like a car again and will hopefully make lots of kilometers more.

Hello friend are fuel pumps difficult to replace on these units? Do u happen to know how they should last. Looking to buy a 4x4 unit with 400k kilo

These engines are build to last. Do you mean fuel injector pump which can be seen on the video? 400k in nothing for this engine if it was well driving and serviced. It will make 1 mill km on most original parts without problem. Corrosion is it’s worst enemy. Chassis and body is the weak point. Electrical issues as can be seen here or on the headlights like in one of my other videos.

@@Surfnflycom lovely sadly the seller was asking to much $39k US for a 1999 312D 4x4 camper with 400kilo. Too much! :-(

where is the EGR valve located on this model?

There might be a simple EGr valve next to the exhaust manifold. This is an old stubborn diesel. As little electronics as possible. Check for the electrical connections and you’ll be able to locate the valve. Sure you got the same model?

@@monolitomonolito2191 we are located in Poland and Denmark, Europe. You’ll need to look for a mechanic locally. That’s the best advice I can give you. Someone who specializes in that type of engines. Let us know the outcome.

Just the red supply cable on the fuel pump which corroded and broke off. All the rest is problem solving, looking for potential issues and how to find that specific problem.
