carlson gracie in the 1950s had amazing uchi mata's he used in mma matches I think he threw Santana with uchi mata almost 3 times back to back.
I love old school Judo, you can see the traditional JuJutsu elements shine through. I think it's time for traditional JuJutsu to make a come back - I can't wait to go to Japan and train in Takenouchi-ryu JuJustu.
traditonal jujutsu styles have very very little ground grappling and no counters to common ground techniques.
only if trad jiujitsu has competition and resisiting sparring would it ever shine.
@@teovu5557some traditional jujitsu styles don’t do much ne-waza and some do. Judo was born form jujitsu after all including ground fighting. But for many jujitsu systems, throwing them on the ground meant you could finish them off with your tanto or short sword.
@jjs3890 💯! The ground fighting really started to evolve after Japan became a "modern " country in the late 1800s when the weapons were removed from most practice. Judo was created and added to most Jujutsu systems.
It is making a comeback! It has evolved, and some people are realizing its effectiveness in combat and self-defense ( always has been). Takenouchi is a good system and blends well with all Jujutsu systems. Enjoy your journey!
Thanks for the video, Chadi. It really shows that BJJ was originally JUDO, which also came from old Jiu-Jitsu(Kitōryū and Tenjin Shin'yō-ryū).I had the opportunity to take a BJJ practice once and could make sure there was NO STANDING fight, which shows BJJ is ,as says Reylson Gracie a ¨mutilated martial art ¨. Many BJJ people complain about judo not having ¨newaza¨, but in my dojo we practice both ¨newaza¨ and ¨tachiwaza¨.Instead of doing BJJ to improve my ¨newaza¨, which won't guarantee a victory in a judo tournament, I prefer to keep on learning aikido and gojuryu karate.押忍
Dude I absolutely love your historical videos! I think you do a great job showing the nexus of all forms of grappling. Even if you are just a Judo Fanboy. (Sarcasm) When is the Valente Bros podcast coming out? The Dr. Ferguson and Drysdale Podcast was awesome!
Great video. I've been finding a lot of success with floating drops and tai otoshi for BJJ. I'm over weight and 50 so I'm just to slow for the leg takedowns.
Hi Chadi, I love all your videos!
Thanks again for sharing your hard work and excellent video 😊
🙇🏻♂️
I enjoyed the video! I liked the historical explanation (and video analysis) of why jiu-jitsu techniques were applied a certain way!
Been practicing judo for a decade now and I can say there is still really a lot more to learn
In Pittsburgh, we start on the feet. 💪🏽
God will not be mocked!
Hi Chadi. The blond guy being thrown by Helio Gracie on the comedy show (Os Trapalhões) was also very famous here in Brasil as a catch wrestler. His name was Ted Boy Marino. Here you can see him in action during the 1960's: ua-cam.com/video/umNs1iFUh7E/v-deo.html
Ted Boy Marino was a pro wrestler, yes, but I wouldn't call him a catch wrestler as in a "Brazilian Luta Livre" guy. If I'm not mistaken he didn't compete in real matches during his carrer, he was just a pretty guy that becane the face o brazilian pro wrestling in the 60s and 70s. He was the argentinian Takada, not the the brazilian Sakuraba.
Chadi squeezing lemon to bring such a good content!
The footage of that show doesn't mention that was one of the most cheeky comedy show on television where most of the movements were as exaggerated as for circus clowns.
Helio was a cameo playing himself.
Bit old of course 😂
Hélio was basically a judoka
Gracie Jiu Jitsu is Judo adapted for a street fighting. In my former jiu jitsu school here in Brazil we used to train atemi waza.
Kosen Judo by another name
Much more sophistacted than Kosen. @@ThePimpedOutPlatypus
@@ThePimpedOutPlatypus The Gracies never learned Kosen Judo. They learned Kodokan Judo under Maeda and Jacyntho Ferro.
@@sergiosapori Nage waza is superior for a street fight. BJJ is Judo adapted for a submission grappling match in a ring with a soft mat.
The Jujutsu take on Charles Atlas at the end is hilarious. It looked like HG lifted with his hips on the Taiotoshi, which would make it something else, if we're going by Kano's definitions. It's great he could do it at his age in the video, although he lost balance, and it didn't look like an intended sacrifice.
❤Judo❤
It seems that the Gracies started to gradually use less judo/jiujitsu throws and relied more on wrestling body lock trips and guard pulls as time went on.
However , i find it fascinating and awesome that the mma and submission grappling world have now (within the last 5-10 years) integrated judo takedowns back into the game.
Looks a lot like the standing jujitsu I see from gyms that focused on Judo and Self-Defense. Great stuff.
can you do a video on Kashiwazaki next?
He’s on my list
They make good motorcycles.
Thanks for showing this old school techniques If it is not shown It will get lost
It really saddens me that modern BJJ discarded Judo's beautiful throws. Now it's 99% ground 1% wrestling. Grandmaster Helio placed a lot of importance in self defense and his throws look amazing. So that further proves throws have an important place in self defense but modern bjj doesn't care.
Bro look at some of the top BJJ dudes today, like Gordon Ryan and Craig Jones... Not only do they use a lot of judo throws and sweeps, but even now-illegal judo takedowns like the kani basame.
The game has evolved and Judo is here to stay in this evolution.
Train Gracie Jiu Jitsu and you will not have any problems
@@dylan_krishna_777 Gracie JJ is outdated as fuck
It's why it's ground game is so good. It focused primarily on one are because the averagre person is not hard to takedown with basic body locks, and trips, which the Gracies did teach.
@@Veritas-dq2hsGordon using Kani Basami? That move is banned not only in BJJ comp but at Danaher's gym as well. Both of them love using Uchi Mata though
That girl in the background 😂😂😂
Kkk That's a character. That was from a comedy show.
The boy looking scared in the background is Royce Gracie!!! Before he became the champion, Royce Gracie was bullied for being girly and wimpy!!!
I used the bear hug escape on a cop once that was trying to put me in a rear arm lock. It worked perfectly. I was going to get arrested for that but thank goodness my instructor was there to keep that from happening. He was a county constable. I was just trying to pull a guy off of my friend in a fight.
Didi mocó no meio do vídeo hahahahaha
This is the best Gracie Jiu jitsu I have seen. From the UFC I thought all they knew how to do was wrestling single and double leg take-downs and arm bars....OK, I'm exaggerating a bit, but not much.
They paired down the takedowns for self-defense. Getting the perfect Judo throw was too risky, when all they needed to do was get their opponent down the smiplest way possible. Also, sometimes the emphasis on the big ippon causes a thrower to roll through. It happened to Karo against Mat Serra. A throw so perfect that he kept rolling, and ended up in guard.
According to wikipedia Helio is a 6th dan in judo i thought he was just a shodan.
He promoted himself.
I'm being serious. He literally promoted himself, as did Carlson Gracie.
They never rose above shodan under Maeda.
@@SoldierAndrewnone of were ever black belts they were self promoted or honorary grades, anyone can look great without resistance
@@SoldierAndrewKimura is the one who said Helio was a Kodokan 6th Dan
Thief.
Gracie bought Toyota (Judo) add some mods and called it Goyota (Bjj) 😂
that is f-ing sweet .
Most of this looks like Shuai Chiao.
BJJ: Basically Just Judo
Have a straight Judo guy comepte in a BJJ tournament at his level consistently, and tell me what happens. We've already had this experiment. There is nothing left to explore. It's just about disgruntled traditional martial artists at this point.
@@itheuserfirst3186 they throw the BJJ guy trying to pull guard?
@@TheMightyZim I mean, they can try, but a throw is often just an entry into the ground game. Why stop with the throw?
@@itheuserfirst3186 Martial arts are supposed to reflect real life situations. One hard throw in real life on concrete and you're done, that way you are possibly able to defend yourself from more than just one attacker. Don't get me wrong, BJJ is great for 1 on 1 and it's a tough sport, but it doesn't mean it's better than Judo. Have a BJJ guy enter a Judo tournament and let's see what happens. Down in a few seconds.
@@itheuserfirst3186pure grappling with bjj rules bjj wins. Any other context judo wins
Why do people say Gracies got this from judo?
I see stick takeaways, knife takeaways, kicks, kneelocks, footlocks, etc
I have been in 20 judo schools and I’ve never seen these techniques demonstrated by judo instructors
That's Kodokan hang goshi is a joke
whos he trans boy/girl in the background?....
asking the real questions lol
