@@edwardrichard2561 the double wrist lock is in judo since the beginning, it is called Ude garami. he didn't learned it from catch wrestling, even before judo this lock was part of Japanese jiujitsu which was several hundred years old

You are just a catch wrestling fan boy that's why you've been saying this. This joint lock pretty much existed in almost all grappling/wrestling arts way before catch wrestling was even a thing

Never forget that Kimura is the Michel jordan of Judo. He was the smallest person (1.70cm)that ver won the openweight all Japan championship. He won those 4 times. We also lost like with Ali a lot of his prime years because the war begann when he was 24. The difference between him and his opponent was so large that people ask how many minutes it would take Kimura to beat his opponent. The Kimura that fought helio was not even 1/10 of prime Kimura and he still was dominanting on a Supreme level.
There is a reason that noone remembers this version of the story. That's because this version never happened.

Kimura was smaller than Helios and just around 5 to 7kg more than helios , fact is that kimura was much much much much better than Helios that’s all

Helio was 134 lbs at the time of the fight and Kimura weighed in at 187. That’s 53 lbs. how much does he need to weigh to have a size advantage? Damn dude, have you ever rolled with someone who is super good at judo or jiu jitsu? Those pounds add up in a big way.

@@Jiu-Jitsu-Robot Other than the newspapers in regards to the Gracie’s activities of inflating things and performing acts such as beating Rufino? I love bjj and Judo but the Gracie’s have always had a shady history especially seen with UFC 1 and prior.

So called BJJ is not a martial art it is a brand. It was marketed to America in UFC 1, 2, 3, and 4. They hand picked sub par fighters to go against Royce. With the exception of Ken shamrock . None of the opponents except shamrock knew grappling.
Kimura was unable to use that knockout throw because the mats were much softer.
You said he couldn't submit Helio, but he submitted him a number of times during the fight. Helio, even though he said he was going to tap, he didn't.

You know, considering the whole marketing of BJJ is that it's designed for the smaller, weaker person, they don't half use strength and weight difference as an excuse for losing all the time.
BJJ is a great style, but the constant re-telling of history and the BS excuses from a lot of the Gracie machine put me off.
Size matters when the skill levels are equal, and this applies across all skill levels. It takes an awful lot of balls to fight a fight you know you're going to lose. Regardless of the variations in the storytelling, what happened, happened.

The whole marketing for/from the Gracie's was 'size isn't an issue, this was designed for the smaller person.'
The Gracie's more often than not will come up with the excuse of, 'he was 300 pounds heavier, and was on 'roids, and had 3 bowls of Weetabix that morning, so we take this as a victory,' when they lose fairly.
They can never just acknowledge that the better fighter won, and that their style of JJ isn't unbeatable, they always have to tag-on a little excuse.
I like BJJ, I like some of the Gracies, would love to spend time with Rickson, but as a family they have twisted the truth so many times that the people who were there don't even remember for certain what actually happened.

How about telling the story about the catch wrestler who beat Carlos. Well Carlos quit. Later that year the three Gracie brothers jump the guy, beat him with a pipe and hyperextended his extremities while being held down. They were convicted and spent time in jail but was let out because of the family’s political ties. I would like to hear the Gracie perspective on that.

Thank you for telling the TRUTH. Not like the other gracie says it otherwise and so many alibi's/reasons but you on the other hand, tells exactly what happened. I give to the rest of the gracie family truly are a warrior, they never give in, they just rather went cold then to surrender. Again, a warrior spirit. I saw this when the family fought Sakuraba.

Kimura threw Helio all over the place and reading his book took it easy on him before the kimura, kudos to Helio for such courage and for once, a Gracie that told the truth, (about 70% of it anyway,) at least he has some honour, Kimura threw him like a Judoka would, ,,,,what was that? Ohhhh, he was a Judoka, then tell it as it was, there's no shame in it. The others call him a Jujitsu champion, he was a JUDOKA, that's it. No problems.
I guess their logic is that the Judo of the 40s and 50s was much closer to old school Jiu Jitsu. Kimura for example had such good ground skills that he completely dominated Helio in his own game. A modern day Judoka champ would not be able to do that to a world champ BJJ of today.
@@VCthaGOATdunker Incorrect, there are retired current Judoka beating world champion BJJ practitioners (e.g. Travis Stevens for one), by transitioning to slower lengthy ground tactics and preparing for those changes but No BJJ practioners is able to to transition to top flight Judo, (i.e., Olympic level), all BJJ practitioners should try fighting at trying to take down that level Judo at tachiwaza, ( not possible obviously as there isn't enough doing BJJ, u have more chance finding retired high level Judoka in M.A.A.,) that's nothing to do with individual combat prowess persay, but a Judoka can much easier fall into BJJ as compared to a BJJ practitioners transitioning into high level Judo is its a lifetime of learning tech and speed and it's a case of adding to the skill set, you cannot switch from a base of BJJ to high level Judo, no matter how top flight you are in BJJ, it takes a lifetime at that level and we as a species just don't live long enough, it is what it is. It makes me laugh when u see these sites saying BJJ vs Judo (amongst other disciplines) as they NEVER fight against high level Judoka (99/100), those that do and are honest in telling the story on taking them down at throwing will tell u what a revelation it is, It's a different level as its the opitomy of throwing, speed, tech, balance etc , (Sambo is the same as their tech in throwing comes from Judo), Kimura took down Helio using nothing but current Judo tech as performed now, not banned tech current today, but don't forget Kimura was also a much stronger opponent tbh, on top of the skill, the difference is now, Judo has a lot of tech taken away in favour of more dynamism in throwing tech, speed and less long winded matches, for reasons i wont go into here. Also your (more traditional Jujitsu) is also incorrect as BJJ is not traditiobal jujitsu by any stretch, there your no atemi, self defence aspect etc cetc, ( as there is in traditional old style kano Judo from 1880s) not withstanding BJJ base come from a Judoka and concentrated on Judo Newaza,, Judo don't forget, was taken up by the authorities for police forces and the military after having no time limit fights against traditional Jujitsu, winning if I stand correctly 99/100 and drawing one with very severe injuries to the opposition. ( check the history), but that's by the by, point is your statement is incorrect, With Respect!!! it's not personal just honest. (From long standing Judoka,, BJJ practioner trad Jujitsu and Judo Inc Atemi, and familiar to non IJF and IJF judo inc Kata which Incrporates Goshin Jitsu. paths. A Judoka at club level new to BJJ will lose in a match using BJJ rules all things being equal, until he/ she picks up the skill set and vice versa, at high level swop, BJJ practitioners , forget about it.

@glowindark64 sorry let me give a much more deeper reply, yes he was Judoka but he was also a catch wrestler who trained out of the snake pit, it is my belief that at this phase in his life he was practicing catch more than judo, which mean he more than likely blended both to improve tge other..

He put out a great book, My Judo. He refutes most of the claims made in this video. He was a man of honor.

I love judo but this is not true lol. Both martial arts compliment each other greatly and I feel they are one in the same. Of course they have differences and bjj is more similar to kosen judo.

It’s a pretty universal technique, ude garami in Japanese, double wrist lock in English, and present in a number of other grappling disciplines around the world too. I think we should move towards just calling it “grappling” in the end instead of “Judo”, “jiu jitsu”, “Catch Wrestling”, “Shooto”, etc

been 30 years since UFC 1 , that resistance is needed in judo when they drop down and throw them over . yes rorion if you go limp ( rag doll ) half way through the move ,you will land on top of them . throws the judo guy off ,, and for a split second he doesnt know what happened , your suppose to be at my head not on top of me ,, your father did an excellent move there by going limp .
