    I am very grateful after 50 of 55 years doing it to finally come out of the wilderness as a vocalist [imitator] and a singer or artist. Thank you for one of the best lessons of my life, all in minutes, no professorial theory or endless, dull scales.

    In my experience this tip makes a lot of sense. The problem when switching from high chest to head voice and you still want to sound compact and full instead of airy is first of all finding the right level in head voice and then switching very fast between your chest voice notes aimed to the back of your mouth to the head voice notes placed more towards your teeth. Then if the notes get even higher remaining in head voice, the placement again moves more to the back of the mouth. Thanks for this! Great video! :)

    You'll see some teachers say to keep everything forward. Some say it's dangerous. Some say to sing high notes forward, while this video says the opposite. Wading through the contradictions with these things is a real pain.

      Andrew DeNise imho, its all about the balance between 2 resonance chambers. the nasal chamber responds better with high pitch notes, the palate chamber responds better with low pitch notes. 100% palate chamber, you will lose the beautiful timbre even for male voice. but, 100% without the palate chamber, there will be no consonant performed, thus all murmuring. moreover, palate resonance is less power efficient. so the higher it goes, the more nasal you naturally or conciousely should become.

    • @Souls4Music
      @Souls4Music 6 років тому

      Andrew DeNise yes you are correct..

    • @gedas7058
      @gedas7058 6 років тому +1

      +Li haotang , so should you keep soft palate lowered down and have some sort of balance between both of that stuff? because What I found myself getting into is murmuring, mumbling words and sounding like I have a stuffy nose. So I think that all of the sound I create is going into the nasal resonance. But how to balance it out with mouth resonance? I understand the idea but how to actually do it?

    • @nickspinner1850
      @nickspinner1850 6 років тому +4

      Andrew, I agree; I'd say it's better to just sing. You start with songs or parts of songs you can handle and once you master those who move up to something more difficult. It's not quite that simple, and I think having someone to guide you can save a lot of time and possible vocal cord damage, but that's the crux of it. If you want to read more about my ideas, my blog is at:

      I offer a free assessment.

      Must say singing high notes forward works for me. I curl the sound around my hard palate and down front teeth. I get more compression this way to get more control singing higher notes. At least that's how I perceive it.

    This tip really freed up my transitions all the way up my range. Occasionally I would accidentally do this and it would work but I had difficulty consistently doing it. It doesn't help that there is a lot contradictory stuff out there about placement. The concept of varying placement through my range is a huge help.

  • @savannahspeir2762

    Oh my god. I never realized that I sang all of my notes in the back of my mouth until now. I was a soprano in middle school chorus, and I remember our teacher telling us that we should be sending the note further back in my mouth to sound more "mature." I kept that advice to heart and didn't realize it was specific to hitting high notes. This also explains why the director of my high school's musical told me he's never heard someone's voice come from where in the throat mine does before. This is going to help a lot. Thanks!

  • @byrevery

    The idea of using the soft palate really works, but it´s essential not creating tension in
    your throat. It´ll happen if you activate directly your soft palate, so the best way of activating it would be indirectly. Alfredo Kraus explains how to do it: using facial muscles to lift your voice, as if you were smiling. All is about avoid an excess of tension at the throat.

    • @gedas7058
      @gedas7058 5 років тому

      Is there a video of that showing how to do that indirectly? Because as you've said, somehow directly with me lifting the soft palate comes the tension in the jaw or throat. It's subtle but still it's tension.

I can see that I used to do that naturally, altho without a notion or without it being conscious so sometimes I felt lost and coudn't figure it out how to control my voice. I do have a question tho. If I want to hit a high note belting, would I still focus on the back?

  • @celibidache1000

    It is anatomically and acoustically not possible to place the voice anywhere. The sounds is created and amplified in the pharynx. What she is doing (seemingly unawares) is changing the shape of pharynx and tongue, which changes which harmonics are amplified more:
    high harmonics - brighter tone - SOUNDS like forwards
    lower harmonics - duller tone - SOUNDS less forward.
    But the sound never moves anywhere. Different harmonics also FEEL different, because of sympathetic vibrations. Still - it's all in the pharynx.

  • @Craigjordan121

    Interesting. Feels like the more forward I place the sound, the more air wants to take the nose route out....should the same amount of air be coming out of the nose for both forward and aft placement?

    Nice tip but can I ask a question?
    I thought all voice placement is directed towards your resonance otherwise there’s no power. Where your saying the high notes should be, isn’t it that where the mix should be? Anyway singing confuses the crap out of me. I think singers like Michael Jackson and Freddie Mercury are the perfect templates for singing?

    I would appreciate an explanation for why the pitches are best placed the way this teacher claims.

    • @laurachase
      @laurachase 3 роки тому

      It’s beceause by placing the sound you actually control your soft palate and when you wanna go into your high belt or mix and stay strong your soft palate needs to stay down to allow airflow through your nose which in turn allows for a very strong sounding high mix the problem is that the soft palate tends to go more up the higher your pitch your voice and that kills the air flow through your nose 👃 which makes you open your mouth more and makes you use to much force from your chest voice to pull the voice up! So control your soft palate 🤗
