Pt. 3 - Sing ANY Song Better Instantly - Vocal Placement Lesson

  • Singing tips part 3 of 3 from "The Voice of the Philippines" finalist Monique Lualhati.
    This lesson focuses on vocal placement, modulation, dynamics, and pronunciation. My biggest take-away from all the work I did with Monique was to put more thought and work into EACH and every word and phrase of a song. I think too often I only look at a song as a whole I don't take the time to analyze the way I sing every word and run. Aiming for perfection will lead to much more perfect and eventually much more effortless and natural sounding singing.

    it's very professional of you to allow someone to critique your singing on camera. it's not always easy to take criticism when you work really hard on your voice. I think a different set of ears can make a world of difference.

      +Joey Kelleher It can. I always love learning and getting better. That's what this channel is all about. I've actually had a ton of improvement since these lessons which were actually recorded about a month ago. Having a trained set of ears positively critique you can be helpful for a singer/musician at any level. It's invaluable to get you out of your comfort zone and improving

      Yes I agree absolutely with Joey, good on you David for being so humble - we can all learn from your openness to learn more, you are going to succeed in everything you do because of it

    I agree. Good voice but too nasally. When you sing more quietly it adds dynamics and a more intimate moment. She has good points

    Thanks a lot for doing this 3-part series. They have instantly helped me more than any vocal program I've been using! Any more videos to break down songs with a pro would be much appreicated. Cheers

      That's great to hear! I'm actually moving to Nashville, TN in a couple weeks so I'll definitely have a lot of other very hands on videos coming soon with other artists and teachers that I find have great tips to share. Make sure to watch a few of my own recent uploads like the "MIX Voice, what you're missing" video I just recently posted as those realizations have been hugely helpful for me.

      +Wavez Thanks for the comment. I love learning and getting better. That's what this channel is about. There's no one who can't improve as a musician/singer. Me included for sure. I feel like I've learned so much just in the month since making these videos, and I'll happily continue to share my breakthroughs and "ahh hahh!" moments :)

    Dave & Monique, if I may just comment, that's one way sign this song. You can use strong support, and more fold compression with twang and have it ringing and richer. It can be sung with a controlled power.

    • @DavidDiMuzioLessons
      @DavidDiMuzioLessons  8 років тому

      Thank you for the input, and yes, everything can in theory be sung with "controlled power". This video was just about experimenting with different vocal placements and dynamics. I was actually quite sick when we made this video as well so my voice wasn't at 100% so this was helpful for me in particular trying to find in betweens in my own voice and abilities.

      Thank you Bob (I'll guess your name is Bob, haha). I'll check out his cover. I love Clay Aiken's voice.

    • @DavidDiMuzioLessons
      @DavidDiMuzioLessons  8 років тому

      btw, I just looked up Clay Aiken singing this song live and he was doing it 1.5 steps below the original version (and his recorded version) in the key of A. That's a super easy key to sing this song in, and more difficult key for the piano player, so obviously he doesn't find it easy to sing either (and he got second on American Idol). His version in C also doesn't have any pain to it I don't think. Kinda loses the emotion, for me anyway. All personal preference.

    I watched this because I'm having issues with my jaw tightening. I started singing at age 7 and never really had issues with pitch IF I stayed in whatever range I was capable of at the time ( as it grew larger the older I got ). But now in my late 30s and not singing consistently, and having GERD, and my teeth have shifted after braces- therefore causing my jaw to overbite a bit- my jaw tightens so much I have too much pain after a 3-4min song on the right side.
    I'm wondering how to get my voice back 😓
    I used to have so much better control of modulation, pitch, and breath....getting older sux

    One of the reasons why people are not great singers, or worse not even good is because they're not singing or feeling the song or the singing has no soul.
    They mostly are singing with the voice of the original singers in their minds to the point that they even copy everything, the nuances, tone, (which is wrong) not knowing that every person has a different unique colors or sound in their own voices.
    They become out of tune as a result.
