Placement is all about where the sound resonates and is on a SPECTRUM. You have OPTIONS that go far beyond sticking solely with a really nasal forward placement.
This demonstration shows a subtly forward placement (using my tongue position to tilt the sound forward) and a more "muted" placement.
How would you describe the difference in colour/tone?

I liked the first, is more playfull, easier to listen.. of course you're good in both

I liked the second option better. The first one is brighter, but it takes away nuances and emotions, apart from sounding very "country music". Personally, the first option damages my vocal cords more and I don't know if it's because my larynx rises more. Brightness can be acquired by singing back and it comes after a few minutes of singing. It is a warmer metal.

Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts and experience! The second option is definitely my preference too for this song. I wonder if you're feeling fatigue or issues with forward placement because of something in the way you're creating it? The way I did it here was by adjusting the position of my tongue.

@@thatsweetroar oh well I didn't know that modifying the tounge is achieved. I have always heard that we should not interfere with the movement of the tongue. But it may be true, then Juan Diego Flores retracts his tongue in high notes and he is one of the best tenors. Maybe I should try it. Until now I was thinking on putting the sound in the mask, quite nasal and that may have been the problem. Thank you!!

I wouldn't advise retracting the tongue (although that's interesting that Juan Diego Flores does that). The way I work with the tongue is more about augmenting the vowel shape than it is about interfering with its movement.

Thank you so much! Your videos are very enlightening. I have been pondering this idea alot lately. I heard someone say not to place it forward but let the voice go where it wants to go. I think pretty much the muted technique you speak of.
