I've seen similar "chickens" with holes drilled in the back of the head and hollowed out for salt and pepper shakers. Cute.

I really like how you do these animals. I make chic-nic tables for people with chickens and provide them microgreen roots. I'm going to make these chickens to add a bit fun to the tables. Your 20 min videos are great. Glad I found your channel. I need to figure a way to make feet / platform so they will sit on the chic-nic table seats.

Great timing and great video.
We have just put 12 fertile eggs in an incubator,as six year the old grandson wanted to have some chickens,they are due to hatch anyway now,so this afternoon I will go out and turn one of your “chickens “ and tell jim one has hatched,can’t wait to see the look on his face!

Alcohol inks would work very well for your comb and beak. Basically it is the same thing that is in the Sharpie.

Egg shaped is great ,,. Nice little project that ,,. won't bother with the center punch , I made one ,, a three inch masonry nail and a turned handle serves well ,,. Stay safe , Regards Alf

I do like them, Andy, easy and more importantly, fun!
I think I might make a modification. With their wide bottoms and narrow tops, I think they are just crying out to be wobble critters. Rounded bottom and a finger touch and they will be wobbling all over the place. Just an added feature making them fun to play with and would probably draw a crowd at a craft fair. 😊

I think that I would have to turn it with the head at the chuck end to get a round bottom ..

@@AndysCornishCreations We did have the weeble wobbles, probably still do for all I know! LOL! Yeah, you'd have to part it off at the head but should still be fairly easy to do. But, I'm not telling you anything, Andy!

Those are awesome Andy, Brilliantly done. I would suggest using acrylic paint (thinned down with water) or a professional ink marker. The Sharpie pens tend to fade to quickly. Still absolutely brilliant Andy, Cheers.

Rain in Cornwall, workshop time with Andy, hooray 😁 Your chickens are very cute, great idea and really well executed, especially with the comb and the body turned in one piece 👍🏻 You have got a good eye for symmetrical sanding, Andy 👏🏻 I think my chickens would all be bald… As a child, I would give my dolls a free haircut… and they all ended up with really short hair, you get the picture… 🤪 It is funny though how the grain in the wood makes them come alive and gives them a certain trait… The tall one, let’s call her Bertha 😉 has this innocent if not to say somewhat naive look on her face… While “rotund” Erna looks like she knows all the tricks of the trade 😂 You could turn a whole flock and they would all be quite unique! Its sunny here in Cornwall today and my twin brother and his family are calling in on their way to their holiday home further down the county... so that will be nice... they have a white miniature Schnauzer as well.. it's a year older than Ivy but they have great fun running around together...

We have had a dry and mostly sunny week, and today has been a golden autumn day, and tomorrow should be more or less the same… Autumn is my favourite season, not too hot and not too cold, beautiful colours in the trees and the crops are ready for harvesting… Even better when the sun is out 😊 This afternoon I have been sanding down a small piece of furniture from my late godmother that I found in the barn… It is to put plants on it, but it has seen better days… I love to touch up old things and bring them back to “life“ again… I am sanding from 120 down to 320, right now I am on 240… The wood is not very good quality, I am afraid, but it has a sentimental value for me, so I am determined to make it look nice again… I may have to come to you for advice for the finish though… Let‘s see how it turns out… So I wish you a relaxing Sunday, enjoy the sunshine and have a good rest 🙏🏻😊 Take care, Andy! But camera shy or not .. I think that there was an opportunity for a restoration project video about the piece of furniture that you saved from the barn ... if you need any filming or editing tips you know who to contact...😉
It sounds like you have the restoration well under control... I hope that you have access to power tools.. ie a random orbit sander to make life easier.. or maybe you enjoy doing it " old school " by hand... which can be more rewarding sometimes... as to a finish ... these days varnish is not so popular although I do like the water based acrylic varnish with a soft sheen finish rather than a high gloss ... alternatively you could just use beeswax which would be much more appropriate as you have your own bees and ( I'm assuming here ) an abundant supply of beeswax... the only problem with waxing is the top where you intend to put plants on.. this may get stained but a solution would be to varnish the top only thus protecting it from water and then waxing the rest ... if it has drawers you can wax the drawer runners to make them run nice and smooth.. any problems just ask handy Andy.. Haha

Yes, I have various sanding „gadgets“, thank God… It does help… although I have to use the hand-o-flex for certain details, but no drawers, just two larger and two smaller surfaces on different levels… I will go for the combined acrylic sheen finish varnish and bee‘s wax option… That will protect the surface from the occasional drop of water and will give it a cool, elegant look and a subtle shine, I should think 👍🏻 I was thinking about an oil finish first, but the wood is by far not hard enough for that, it would soak it all up and look „dead“, if you know what I mean… I need something to seal off the surface and make it a bit harder, more resilient.... The bee‘s wax should do that and give it a lovely shine, I think, and you are right, we have plenty of it 😁 Stupid question, sorry 😬 Do I warm it up a little, and then apply and rub it in thoroughly with a cloth, right?
Not sure about the restoration video though 🤪😱 But be sure that you will be my go-to person should I ever decide to do one 👍🏻😉 However, should you need a voice for a crazy old chicken with a strange accent in your first stop motion movie, I am your girl, Andy!
I hope you enjoyed your trip to the garden centre this morning 🥳 I have only just been, Friday afternoon to be precise, and „only“ bought a couple of pansies and a new pot for my little money tree (crassula) which has gotten too big, I need to trim it down and start a new one in a new pot… So I have just had my „fix“, ha ha… 😉 No coffee and cake for me though, us non-jabbed folk are no longer allowed on the good furniture in “free” Switzerland, so no more visits to cafés or restaurants or the like for me, I am afraid…

With the beeswax you could get some mineral oil and put equal amounts of beeswax and mineral into an old pan ... heat it up until the beeswax melts then stir well to mix them together.. you can also add some scented oils if you like... then pour it into a container and allow to cool ... this should produce a more useable paste that is easier to apply and gets into the wood a little more ... you can alter the amounts to make it harder or softer...
Not allowing you into cafes etc seems a little harsh... you are probably being more careful than most to keep safe... over here it's the school children that are catching it and taking it home to the parents mostly...
We bought some Violas as well... they are lovely cheerful flowers...
Ahh well... work in the morning.. I'd better get of to bed...

I think the chickens are great and seem like a good beginners project and being as I have chickens I think I might have a go at making some but just to let you know chickens have a Combe not a cone 😂
