Holy crap. That CF Zen is no joke. I wish they made them in a 33 so I could use them for a homerun derby with friends. I do have the new Redline 20th anniversary Korean bat but I’m keeping that one in the wrapper forever.
For the most part, Will is right when it comes to composite USA and BBCOR bats, but there are exceptions. There's a reason why the Rawlings glowstick is the most sought after bat in the LLWS and now, he is learning about the ICON in his later videos. Hey, Will, what's your thoughts on the ICON USA bat? It's got to be good if USA bats are little BBCOR bats.
Are there any actual velo tests of the glowstick vs expensive modern usabats? I have to think its mostly reputation, since if it was markedly better than a regular usabat it would have been decertified. I tend to think it just happened to have been the only good usa bat in the initial 2 years of the cert so compared to the garbage easton pumped out the first year it was legit
I got my Louisville Atlas a few months ago. Only been to the cages once, hit the field for first BP of the season today and hit my first home run ever in my life. I’ve been a contact hitter forever and *for me,* I cranked that ball about 360-370 to left center. The Atlas is no joke, it’s got more pop when connecting the sweetspot. So glad I took a chance on it… but it is so so ugly
Another great video! Thanks for the breakdown on the USA vs BBCOR comp. I’d also wondered which bat the Marrucci USA compared to. I’d love to see how the Demarini Voodoo One compares between USA and BBCOR. (Is it in name only?) my son is looking at what bat is a good one as he transitions to BBCOR in the next couple years.
When I played little league there was only two bats to chose from, wood and aluminum, didn’t even know who manufactured them. If I was in little league now with these bats, I would be hitting nukes.
Do the bat companies make any of the same bats across the different certifying bodies. Would be interesting to see how each one performs if they are all the same bat but BBCOR, etc.
I started highschool ball right when BBCOR came out. Wish we had the BBCOR bats now back then. Also wish I knew that I knew the composite wasn’t anywhere near as hot at the alloy. But standard kid thinking then after putting down my combat b2… composite must be the hottest thing ever… not the case 🤷🏻♂️
@@Mikehonchotheponcho 5150 is alloy so I didn’t use it plus it was more of a contact hitters bat to me. All through highschool I swung a 34/31 xl1 then switched to the xl3 way later. Tried some other composite bats and they mostly all were subpar. Other than the first S2 or XL3 or voodoo black. BBCOR in its first few years just killed the game a bit for a while
Hey Will, ik you don’t normally do any glove videos but maybe you guys could do a “best gloves under 200$” video, i’ve been looking at the Marucci Oxbow and I can’t seem to find many reviews on it
Try to find a Marucci Cypress on sale. There are usually some out there that will be $199 or less. Well worth it over the Oxbow. Oxbow is ok, but if you are older it won't last very long as it is full-grain cowhide vs steerhide leather in the Cypress. It's like an A1000 vs A2000 from Wilson.
hey will, i was wondering about this question i had for you. if i am 1 or 2 balls low when i swing and i am trying to get base hits, what am i doing wrong. i love the vids bro
Yo Will, love your videos. Do you think all of the USA Select PWRs are the same? Just a repaint every year? Or is there something new from 2020 to 2023
Hey jt idk if you remember it's sawyer the kid that asked for a picture with you at the mingus high school baseball camp I just wanted to see how you were doing and maybe we can get in touch one day-sawyer
Ok so what is a drop 5 used for? Is that what some high schools use? I've only ever herd of -3 being used in high school and really they weren't strict In any of my other leagues I played in but that is probably different everywhere you go
Would you be willing to review some older bats if I sent them to you? Like a 2014 xl1, and 2016 mako beast, maybe a one piece -5 combat. They've just been sitting around here
The sound off the meta n the atlas could not be more different for bats at a glance look identical! Go O’s! Need to find some baseball nuts like myself in the Baltimore area! My friends theyll toss the ball around for a few here n there , we used to spend the whole damn day at the diamond! Its therapeutic For Real
It's crazy to me how many brands there are who make bats these days.. I'm forty and back through little league, high school and college there were really just two companies, Easton which 95% of bats being swung were made by, and then Louisville.. Demarini was around but made exclusively softball bats, at least that's about all they were known for. Then when things went composite Demarini seemed to gain popularity and sorta came on the scene to replace Louisville for second place behind Easton, then after college is when I remember Nike releasing composite bats, but I mean for the most part my entire baseball life Easton made the vast majority of bats being used with Louisville being the only second option, I got example used a Louisville my senior year while everyone else on my team used Easton, either the Reflex CCore or the Redline while I used the green and black TPX that released a couple years earlier.. and like I said Demarini had been around but in softball, not baseball.. and each brand released one single bat each year.. it's crazy the sheer number of options people have today
USA Standard is definitely the least favorite regulation. The balance of the game changes at this level. Outfielders and pitchers love it though For you, the exit velocity is lower in USA because they are more balanced. ADV Hype drop 5 is more endloaded than a bbcor Victus Vandal, but with your strength, the MOI lost is more detrimental than the bat speed gained. For a kid, they need that increase in balance The BBCOR regulation also regulates mishit BBCOR for abi composite bats A drop 5 alloy shouldn't have any more dents than a bbcor. Usually they have the same shell, just with a restriction mechanism in the BBCOR. Many leagues do allow BESR bats in USSSA, and if you listen to the hoop frequencies, they're very similar because like usssa drop 5, besr bats and bbcor use similar bat shells. I'd argue that you personally would do better with a BESR bat than a USSSA drop 5 because of the extra MOI My latest study has been on how USSSA bats for alloys has changed over the years. Many older USSSA alloys are much hotter than newer ones because of cost cutting. The whole USSSA regulation itself comes from the late 90s era. Back then, senior league ms would use drop 8 bats which were thinner walled than the drop 5s
here is a story so my brother recently got a usa atlas and we were trying to break it in because it is a really good bat so we went to our local baseball field to get in the cages and take swings he went first then i went up everything was going well untill the last swing that i had it sounded funky but i didnt notice it so then we went to a game to use it and my friend said hey can i use this and he was feeling around the bat and said hey this is dented and we were both like whhhattt and then i remembered the swing sound. So that is the story.
I'm honestly kinda impressed the Meta Power had that good of a velo. Utrip is just crazy though
He should have used the goods since it has more pop and is currently the best bbcor bat
Holy crap. That CF Zen is no joke. I wish they made them in a 33 so I could use them for a homerun derby with friends. I do have the new Redline 20th anniversary Korean bat but I’m keeping that one in the wrapper forever.
They make the cf and zoa in 33 at least the 2021 cf I don’t know about the 2022
They do

in the video Will said it was similar to the marucci f5
and since BBCOR is just like USA, you can get any bat that has a similar swing weight to the bat you would want to use in BBCOR
hit my first every home run with the USSSA CF Zen. It has crazy pop and when you perfect perfect the ball you cannot feel it.
Y’all need to try the Camwood game bats. They use a euro beech wood that is dense like maple and giving like ash.
You guys should do a fungo bat test!

Dropping ur shoulder, dropping hands, maybe ur swinging down, maybe your bat path is up and down rather than diagonal
We have the USA Atlas this yr. Seasons ending I think we liked the adv composite last yr... But we cracked 2 of them so??..

No

That pitching machine has some variation in pitch height. Is it due to the how the ball is placed into the machine?
Just kinda depends if the wheels catch a seam or not
