I can listen to you for hours. Your excitement and enthusiasm is so contagious. Your demos are so much fun and your on screen personality is just delightful. Thank you thank you thank you.
Roland would have given this machine to me if aged 5 I did not fel afraid by my piano teacher's very long fingernails, a very strange lady who constantly ran a pen under my fingers repeating 'this is the little train passing under the bridge [again and again] you must make your fingers round... the little train , the little train...' ...Mum I don't like to play the piano. Next time you'll know why Zildjian did not offered me a beautiful drumset.

That was just awesome Dr Mix. Thank you. Some may think that you’re the luckiest man alive, I do sometimes, but then I remind myself that you make your own luck…by study, practice and an aim to achieve a certain standard. You’ve done the lot. As for this Roland monster, well, I can dream. 😀👍
You know, this might be one of the first synthesizers to come out in the past year that I've watched a video on and have been genuinely impressed with. Amazing improv, btw. I wish I could be as good as you. :)
I have been looking at this synth as my next big buy. I love Roland products. My favorite band The Pet Shop Boys use a lot of Roland synths in their music production. I can listen to you for hours. Thanks for the DEMO. :)
It is called Fantom as when you see the price you go as white as a ghost 👻 But worth every penny just to see the smile on his face. And some ports on that, I could really interface with it - I knew I was saving up for something during lockdown, and now I know.
Thanks Doctor Mix, you are able to make any keyboard in the universe a fun instrument! Even a Commodore 64!!!! The Amiga packed an even bigger punch...
So I'm sat here in front of my Roland FA-06, and apart from a few subtle differences, this Fantom has pretty much my sounds. Nice display etc and few new features, but like a guy has put on here...Old wine, new bottle. Maybe Roland would like to address firmware issues before starting new projects? Novation are doing massive firmware updates and bonus features FOUR YEARS after the BS2 came out!
I tend to agree. I have the Roland FA-08 and a Roland MC-707. Both contain the complete sound library of the XV5080. That machine was launched in 2000. In other words, 20 years ago!! When I went through the sounds of the Fantom I saw the same exact sounds. That means there are approximately 1200 twenty year old sounds. The Fantom has a great interface, hardware and even SOME really nice modern sounding patches. But I found most of the instruments sound dated. I feel like Roland is resting on their laurels and depending on Jupiter 8, D-50, and Juno emulations to carry them. My MODX6 definitely can sound like a DX7 or a Motif. But Yamaha gives you new guitars, new basses, new synths, new horns, new strings etc and lots of them. I can play covers from the 80's and 90's but also produce the high quality sounds of today. I really want to like the Fantom but I just cannot justify spending $3000-4000 only to sound largely like I did in 2001. And when a new product comes out, it ought to be complete. Updates should be to enhance a product, not finish it.
@pearlsnaredrummer77 Yes it just seems like Roland's innovation is gone and now they simply keep trying to recycle the "glory years." My next planned synth purchase is actually a DSI Rev 2. Dave Smith is not simply coming out with "remakes" of the Prophet 5. He is actually trying to push the envelope of analog and digital synthesis alike.
I compared the new Fantom to a FA-06 at Sam Ash using the same speakers and the New Fantom sounds remarkably better in person. But the FA-06 is still a great value. Roland has had great success because their instruments sound so amazing and they are the most innovative company.
If Roland made this recently, what will Yamaha answer with? The Montage is incredible at 5 years old and the MODX is just heaven sent! There's so much good gear around nowadays, songwriting and ability have to be the focus in a modern production environment.
Montage can still have software updates. Companies don't need to release a new board every 2 years. Fantom is still getting updates with latest (at the time of typing) 2.5 which added Ableton integration and a new tonewheel organ engine.
@@spazkong It has Samplebot which is more than enough but I understand the frustration of not being able to sample something quickly from the keyboard.

Great UI! BUT: soundset with LOTS of miserable 3rd rated sample material from the 90s up. And no, there are no premium Rhodes sounds in there, nor convincing B3s, and LOTS of their more up to date SN material is missing. Checked it extensively, and was massively disappointed about the many soundset weaknesses in this synth, along with some disappointing OS weaknesses.
There was a note Roland sent out to registered users that SN-A Piano and EP sounds are coming very soon in an update, and also tipped off multisampling is coming. E-mail was also filled with "we listen to you and will be implementing your requests". I am not in at this price until every single SN-A from Integra sound is there, and a V-Organ. My FA right now has more in the sound department than this....
Montage, no question. Whether this has better in/outputs, the Yamaha sounds better. Organs, Pianos, Electric pianos... they all sound pretty meh on this.

Great keyboard tho, I’m buying more sounds using the expansion boards.
It's basically a Fantom FA06 with better hardware and a touchscreen. The sequencer can still not use anything but 4/4 and 2/4. lol Why do people still buy "workstations"?
