      The module has a series of pads with poly aftertouch which, after a bit of practice, are still very very enjoyable. You won't be doing fast trills on them, but usually polyAT is fun on slow Enyaesque things :-)

      If you have a poly aftertouch controller then that ribbon costs £400 over the desktop, worth it if you need it - but not if you have a MPE/ribbon controller already, which is better for sliding to exact pitch.

    Man, I loved watching you geek out on this synth. Of all the videos I've watched of this awesome unit yours is the most revealing. The fact that you are able to hit very basic factory patches, and see/hear an appealing use for the sound in a context says soooo much. So many many play a quick snippet of a factory patch, and move on without any experimentation. That type of video doesn't do this synth any justice. Kudos to you for this!

    I knew as soon as I saw the early demo videos for this synth that I had to have one. I put my pre-order in early at Sweetwater and I got one of the first batch, in early January. It very quickly became my favorite synth. The keybed is just creamy and gorgeous, and the polyphonic aftertouch is tuned perfectly - best I have ever used. It makes the synth an incredibly expressive and playable INSTRUMENT, not just a synth. The keybed is so great that I often use it to play my other synths, particularly synths like my MODX that will receive and react to poly AT over MIDI, but don't actually have a poly AT keybed.
    I didn't really care about the ribbon controller, I figured it was going to be more of a gimmick than anything else, but I was totally wrong - it adds another whole dimension, and is eminently playable. I use it all the time!
    The build quality is outstanding, it's solid and confidence inspiring. The support from the manufacturer has been outstanding (I found a bug and reported it on the Hydrasynth Facebook group, where manufacturer reps read and post regularly - they issued a firmware update fixing the bug just a few days later!).
    And of course, the sounds....what made me want it in the first place. Incredible sounds, it can sound like a Moog analog, or it can sound harsh and digital, or anywhere in between. Sound design on it is simple and FUN, and the mod matrix while very complex, is easy to understand and manipulate.

    As a classical/jazz pianist I could never really connect to any synth, they are just some stupid keyboards with noises and stuff. But I got the ASM Hydrasynth Keyboard a month ago and can't stop being impressed by it! I can program it (and I'm pretty novice at synths!) and as a pianist I love the poly AT, the good keys and the ribbon and all the great and weird sounds and possibilities. It's just the best non-piano keyboard I've ever had and it's a lot of fun :)

      Eventually, everyone will become part of the collective. You will be assimilated. The keyboard is like physics, all other areas can be expressed by the right keyboard, and this is the soundtrack king. I could not believe this was not analog, but the aftertouch, the aftertouch. Crescendo, chord development, yes, orchestra in the box. I'm sure the next place this goes is a voice for each section. Can you imagine? Timpani on aftertouch. I mean, yes please.

    • @Elratauru
      @Elratauru 4 роки тому

      ...And that's why you are having trouble, you are mistaking a Keyboard with a Synthesizer.
      Most entry-level keyboards do have sounds and those are mostly just to mess around, but a synth is completely different, from the way you generate the sound to it's capabilities. A regular digital piano of today's uses like 128 samples for each key, however most synths are NOT sample based, meaning that the sound it generates comes from the Oscillators (or in the case of FM, modulators).
      -
      Now, any Roland synth from the 80's can do similar stuff as this thing does. Junos, Jupiters, whatever. If you want something cool, portable and with similar playfulness now-days the Reface series from Yamaha are pretty epic too.
