Top Tip Tuesday! - Looping Ocean

  • In today's Top Tip, we'll be setting up a large-scale ocean simulation, using xpOcean.
    Once created, we'll adjust the settings to create infinitely looping, realistic waves.
    We'll then use an additional xpOcean, in deformer mode, to negate any repeating wave paterns.

    Hi Bob from Insydium! Thanks for this tip. Could you explain how to use this ocean as a surface which could interact with some objects, for example a boat, or a ship. Could objects react on moving mesh to stay on surface of the ocean?

      wait for the new fused release in July. Should make foam/etc much easier.

      @@hotzenmonster I wouldn't expect the update to do much in terms of foam for deformed meshes like in this case. xpFoam works with particles and not meshes. However, you can already have xpOcean generate a vertex map with foam data and you can use that to add a foam layer in your water material.

    Add a function to the ocean function to make waves in response to the boat.

      xpFoam works with particles and not deformed meshes. However, you can have xpOcean generate a vertex map with foam data and you can use that to add a foam layer in your water material.

    you show large scale ocean on a small patch? what? now how can i make a ship in a large ocean? this setup will not work on large scale ocean right? why the gaslighting....

      Hi,
      You can use the techniques from this Top Tip, on large areas (as big as your CPU can handle) to create oceans that are not repeating and waves that are at the scale of large oceans. If you need further assistance, please ask this question on our Discord Server.

      @@INSYDIUMLTD I would expect some sort of solution to the absolute need for real world problems for a large scale infinite ocean and not to send your clients to see how fast they can break their pc with your plugin. and by the way it break very fast when you go big... for now its just useless ...

      @@INSYDIUMLTD I tried it on a plane of 10 km x 10 km (i.e. 100 square kilometers) and 25 million polys (5,000x5,000 segments). It did not work (repetition was clearly visible)
