    Why to launch giant torpedo at 50 speed, when you can build (semi)automatic railgun, that can launch useless stone at 100 speed from standing still ship?

    • @EariosRandomness
      @EariosRandomness 10 років тому +70

      Imagine building that railgun as a defense mechanism on your base.

    • @Smetanol_
      @Smetanol_ 10 років тому +48

      EariosRandomness It's not supposed to be on base, it would be very difficult to use.
      So basicly building giant movable and turnable space cannon with storage of stone is the most cheap way of destroying big ships/stations.(and you can even make it into shotgun!!!)
      I'm not sure how would you make that thing into turret, cause you would probably endup using rotors, that would result in way too manual targeting, and still you would get blind zones for being attacked.
      Railgun ship though can be really small (only one gravity generator(get more for higher speedup), conveyor setup with storage and deploying mechanism(that probably is the most dificult part of this ship), few engines, gyro and generator, and cockpit ofcourse)
      You even can disassemble full of stone storage just infront of gravity generator to get REALLY big rock.(though it's just one use, but with power of a old spice body wash!!!)

      just have a basic ship with a gravity well strapped underneath it or whatever, maybe have the torpedo with the thrusters on the back of it, and have it latched on with landing gear, so that once you release it it flies forward on its own instead of you needing to run at the enemy.

Only thing that is a problem with Magneto-Shield is additional gravity sources fucking around movement inside of the ship as we can only change gravitation zone around generators...we cant move it outside of its center and Shield needs its range to stop Torpedo. Still this is way to big and expensive to damage it inflicts...and this damage is a result of beta code and bugs.

      @vukpsodorov5446 11 років тому +3

      no, the gravity field inside the torpedo is equal, and you will have the same gravity pull no matter how much generators you have (i think) and then they will affect the rock after it went into the ship, out of the torpedo gravity field which means it will crush the bottom of the ship

    • @HippieInHeart
      @HippieInHeart 6 років тому +1

      yes, for destroying (stationary) ships or bases with gravity generators, you should probably use a weapon that doesn't rely on gravity. maybe the lotus or something like that. for non-stationary ships, i think this weapon is not good anyway, because small ships can dodge it very easily and big ships will probably not have much trouble with shooting it down before it reaches it's target.

    This look amusingly like the anti-matter bomb concept. A mass of anti-matter is kept confined inside the warhead within a powerful magnetic field. On contact with the target, the magnetic field is released, the anti-matter annihilate with the target matter and release an incredible amount of energy in the form of a colossal explosion.
    In this case, there is no matter/ anti-matter interaction, but the restrictive force field is there. Brilliant design.

    • @bernardi5919
      @bernardi5919 9 років тому

    Idea: Colonizer
    Basically a 3x3 or 5x5 Tube of large ship Blocks, with a Life Support wheel attached. The front end has drill on it, while the back end splits Open in a flower Petal kind of way with Rotors. The Petal Part contains many useful bits to survive, such as some Small reactors, cargo containers, and Welding Tools and such. The front end is a big drill that drills a whole in the Surface of an asteroid up to the Wheel. to Jettison the unneeded rocks, have an Ejector on the back of the petal, that uses a Gravity Flinger (Like with what you have here) to blast them into space.If you wish, you can have the front of the drill have a Hole in it, so you can start an Underground colony. (Note: I understand this isn't needed in small clans and is expensive, but 50 Member clans who need more space dould do this!

    I would have made a slimmer missile that holds a small cargo container and connector. Then design it to kind of latch on to the enemy ship somehow, perhaps landing gear that automatically locks on to the enemy ship. Once locked on, turn on the gravity generators which are designed to accelerate mass, and then launch mass constantly out of the connector. Until the enemy ship can remove it, you will have this thing flinging deadly mass continuously into the hull of the other ship.
    ALSO: Instead of relying on your ships speed to release the torpedo at whatever speed you were going, use either a thruster or gravity launcher to launch the torpedo from the launch tube. You could also use a "conveyor" of wheels with a landing gear at the rear end for loading and holding the missile.

So many times have I wished to be able to get through heavy armor in the past, in various other video games, but you just can't with normal explosives. This idea though is just genius. You get the kind of penetration needed to go through heavy armor. Now if only you could stick explosives to that rock or put more than one rock inside. Get a shotgun effect going on. Why use one rock when you can use several? Hahah... So many good ideas. Also I love the ship's design.

    • @JacobAvnerPr1mus3
      @JacobAvnerPr1mus3 10 років тому +4

      Putting in a warhead would simply explode. His weapon would send a large rock through the ship. If the stone is embedded and the victim tries to move, the rock will shear through the ship. For explosives, you can just put a very simple missile together.

    • @101m4n
      @101m4n 10 років тому +1

      These days with artificial mass, you can use a gravity generator to accelerate a "cloud" of warheads. Far cheaper and more devastating, even than this :)

    An updated version of this would probably have a grouped set of thrusters, eliminating the need to go to ramming speed. Merge blocks could be set to release it, meaning not only will the warhead be calculated in the Center-of-Mass, but this could completely add a whole new level of control to your design. I wouldn't mind a look back at this.

    I know I'm majorly late to this (released on PS4/5 recently), but if this still works to some effect, does anyone think it could make gravel useful? Think about it: Clang destroyed his factory with an inventory-dropped item, so in theory, couldn't we use this approximate technique to make a gravel "rail"cannon using a throw-out connector? I do have to start with the admittance that I'm still pretty new to Space Engineers, but I have ideas.
    I think if the torpedo portions of the design were scrapped, the free-floating object housing could be retrofitted to have an opening on the front surrounded by gravity generators, mostly for redundancy (because stuff is subject to damage during combat) and have a connector port in the center of the housing's rear, also surrounded by gravity generators in case stray shots critically damage one. During a "loading" process, gravel could be expelled into the housing via connector ejection, then once a suitable volume of shot/debris has been loaded, the connector ban be closed off, the cannon's aim can be finalized, then finally the gravity generators around the opening of the housing can be turned off to set the gravel on it's way, like a massive, cost-effective space shotgun (which the game is currently lacking). Alternatively, depending on the muzzle velocity, distance to target, and the server/save's stray object limit, you could potentially just disable the generators around the opening, and I'm assuming the ejector would dispense gravel items one after another, effectively creating a GMG, or gravel machine gun!
    I dunno, maybe I've gotten a solid idea out of the TGAWT, but I'm guessing I'm probably too much of an inexperienced rookie or that things have changed since then. I like the crazy Idea, but I feel like the TGAWT would be a pain and too obnoxious to reload, so that's why I thought of substituting mostly useless gravel. If it works, gravel could be a more consistent, more reliable and logistically simpler munition made from a cheap and annoyingly overabundant byproduct.

  • @zeph6182
    @zeph6182 10 років тому

    If you're correct about how the warhead works, it will ALWAYS have the same effect despite velocity/inertia. The damage is purely based off of the reactive force of the rear gravity generator after the initial collision. I'm sure if you produced a larger warhead and got several steel plates to rotate around a boulder solely about the Z-axis, as well as provided a unequal z-axis pull you could produce a shotgun-blast with a very, very, very broad area of effect, and still maintain the same penetration, if not greater. The only con would be that you would HAVE to launch the warhead at a high velocity as well as close to the target. Also, any space and resource-related efficiency is great, as anyone who uses these missiles would want to arm as many ships as possible with them, and put as many of them on a ship as possible. Brilliant design, once again wish I had both the game and a supercomputer.

    Works off the same principle as a bunker buster. Warhead damages the armor before the stone even hits. Best part is, if you use this against an actual ship with heavy armor instead of just a wall, the stone is going to bounce inside the ship where all the 'soft' material is. It's definitely a ship killer, provided you can hit a ship. Maybe mount a boarding hatch behind the stone so you can enter through the breach?

    I thought up something but I don't have the patience or time to test it and modify it. Here is my idea.
    Basically, you have that odd gravity shooter that LastStandGamers made, then some sort of room behind it in which people can then get out through a door into the actual gravity chamber, through the hole, and infiltrate the ship. It's a nice little idea since I noticed that when you launch the torpedo perfectly straight it get's perfectly cut in half. I can answer questions, so ask if you're confused about it and want to build it or similar.

    i like how you show us just what happens when an object is used to attack another object. but, what i think would be really cool to see is something along the lines of a small warhead (like some of the ones in your other videos like a torpedo or something) hitting a target (large ship preferably) the target being something that you would see in a practical survival game with say like maybe a protective outer layer of heavy armor in exposed parts with light armor in less exposed areas i.e. inside corners protected from the design of the ship with about the thickness of about 1(outer layer of heavy armor) + 1-1.5 thickness of heavy or light armor, i say 1.5 because of angles and the sort. anyways it would be really cool to see you do something like this
