    Let's be realistic, any way you look at it this is a very attractive 50 year old classic Olds that most folks would be thrilled to add to their collection or make it their only weekend cruiser. 72 was a good year, the color's right, the condition's right and it's a coupe for goodness sakes! I love it and someone's going to be very happy with this ride.

    My dad had a 73 Oldsmobile 98. That thing was a land yacht. It was a bare bones model. Manual everything. Still fun to drive.

    Very rare to see a 2 door 98 from this time. Drop dead gorgeous and it has the wire wheels that flatter these cars to no end. And that heavy duty looking sunroof, Wow.

    Pops always bought mom 98s. A '68, and then a '70. The '70 had a 455ci engine. I used to sneak it out when I was really young. We'd turn the breather cover upside down to get that cop car effect! lol Years later, mom still had that car. A friend pulled up beside me on the highway, with his '79 Trans Am. We both matted the pedals, in low 2. He jumps me a fender, or so, and shifts into drive. I held the Olds till 90 before shifting up to drive gear. I walked off and left him...

    I want to thank you for a great video. After reading some of the comments, I wonder why people who are so disagreeable just don't scoll to the next video. I totally understand you not posting the price yet, as this actually is a fact finding video. By posting you can have some of us give some "positive" input to help you. Obviously one of the previous owners, put in a after market sunroof, slapped some wire wheel covers on it, and probably dumped the original seats to a nicer period correct (within 2 years) pillow top interior, and painted the engine block (L74 455 block) a light blue instead of the original metallic blue. All those things would be considered if someone wanted a EXACT pristine example- which we both know is probably impossible to find. That being said, what a great car! For the rest of us 99%, I think we would be proud to have it in our garage.

    This 98 is absolutely amazing. ‘72 was such a beautiful body style and the color combination is great. My dad was always an Olds guy up to the early 80’s.

    In my early teens my family owned a new one which I was allowed to drive once in a great while. The 98 drive like a locomotive on rails before it had radials. It was heavy, smooth riding, had a four speed Hydromatic, and was very powerful.

    • @NateEll
      @NateEll 2 роки тому +5

      Are you sure it was a 4 speed hydromatic and not a 3 speed ?

    • @nomebear
      @nomebear 2 роки тому

      @@NateEll I may be wrong about it being a 4 speed, but I felt three distinct modes when I was out drag racing my teen buddies who were driving the families cars. Our 65 Bonneville had a different transmission which was much smoother. One friend's dad owned a Buick Wildcat with two 4 barrels that was a serious contender. There was Cutlass 442 convertible a girl friend owned that could leave rubber at 45 mph. We lived on the south Texas coast, gasoline was cheap, so driving a gas guzzler wasn't a problem. Living on the coast the cars rusted from the topside in no time from the salt air.

    That’s a 98 that definitely deserves to be preserved. For me the only thing I would do is get rid of the exhaust tips even though they’re period correct for that era.

      i was 16 in high school when my friends older brother would loan him his 1972 Olds with the same motor ..we would pay him 5 bucks to do a brake stand, you couldn't see the car for tire smoke, once the smoke cleared the only thing left were two 100 foot long skid marks. Olds built some great motors

    This Olds 98 is drop dead gorgeous in my favorite color too. I was getting ready to graduate HS that year. Joined the Marines bought a ‘73 Camaro with a longing look at the unaffordable Olds. Then in ‘83 as a hard charging sales guy I finally bought a Silver 1984 Olds Cutlass Supreme Coup. Man that was a gorgeous car too and a great cruiser up and down the NJTPKE. They don’t make em like they used to.

    Dad had one. He had "moved up" from Impala when he "made VP" at his 400 company. He continued to drive 98s until GM destroyed Olds. I remember my brother and I were having lunch at an outdoor table about a decade ago watching some poor kid trying to parallel park a Corolla and he joked that if you learned to drive in a 70s Olds you can parallel park anything made today without needing some gizmo to do it for you. So true.

      Hey Rick! We are hoping the auction goes live in less than 2 weeks. However, per Bring a Trailer they insist we don't reveal the reserve. Not my rule, but I do follow it. That being said, I "believe" it does somewhere in the teens. Hope you understand! And thank you for your interest!
