    Kanade is 17 now, she has been playing since she was 3, she was playing as the principal drummer in adult groups since she was 6, she has been demoing V-Drums for Rolland since she was around 8 or 10, and she now plays with Ear Candy Jazz Factory, and several other groups of various genre, but she mostly does Jazz Fusion, like Chick Corea’s Spain, but as you can see she spans to Acid Jazz like this performance, a group she has been playing with off and on for a couple of years now.
    This was a solo, and therefore disconnected, her performance in the rest of the song is where she shines. Her mastery of rhythms and syncopation is what sets her above other drummers of any age and any genre. I’m sure when you look further into Kanade you will realize that child prodigy doesn’t even begin to describe her. I wouldn’t try to react to her many performances, just go back and watch how hard she works to be the professional drummer in the group. Her 6 year old performances show this side, and she is so proud of herself when she accomplishes that goal of being the drummer of the group.

    Yes this little girl can really get with it on the drums , but Senri Kawaguchi , been playing since maybe the age of 6 or maybe younger and she’s now probably 20 , she absolutely is awesome. And I think this little girl and Senri have the same teacher or Kanade Sato was influenced by Senri. But they have a video drum battle together in 2012. Both awesome drummers and started very young.

      I know Kanade's dad a little and we all spent some time together with Rie's band last October in London, when they played at a Japanese metal festival there, and hung out on their days off. Kanade's very easy-going, and I got the impression that she is undecided about what direction to go. Interestingly, when we walked around the British Museum, the other older girls in the band (Rie, Juna and Marie) seemed to hang out together more, whereas Kanade was either looking at her phone most of the time or with her dad. Very nice and polite. Though not knowing English very well, I talked more with her dad, and got the impression that Kanade is still finding her way. At the moment, she is with Rie's band again, but I think she'll eventually go off in another direction.

      JoeSzilagy/ aka: Joe Slant that’s a pretty cool story . I started getting into Japanese music and watching these up and coming artists around 2010 when I first heard BabyMetal , and I’ve been interested in that genre of music and seeing how talented most little children are from Japan. That country has no shortage of talented artists.

    That was a okay review; however, I am confused as to why you chose to review her doing a song for a rock band as apposed to the jazz fusion work she has become so (rather) famous for. It was unfair! Would you rate Buddy Rich for a song he did in a genre other than jazz? Likely not. I hope you’re not the type that goes to a seafood restaurant, orders the chicken and then complains when it sucks. Check out some of the covers she has done with Dave Wickl songs and you’ll understand why some of us are upset that you refer to her as “good for her age.” When it comes to jazz fusion, she is friggin excellent (for any age) - even yours.
    Someone who knows!

      Well, she IS good for her age. Or do you consider her moderate for her age? Please don´t be so protective of her, she is a good drummer, but there are better out there. I think you actually are fixated with her being young and female. She should be able to stand her ground in comparation with any drummer in all the genres she plays, or am i wrong? Or do you feel that it is some form of competition that "your" drummer needs to win? To compare one artist to another is useful to explain and show talant and techniques used.

    • @RiderOftheNorth1968
      @RiderOftheNorth1968 3 роки тому

      @Reg Dewitt I agree with what you are saying and i am well aware of what she have done so far. I admit that she is not my favorite drummer ( them being Ian Paice and Senri Kawaguchi) but i see and respect talant when it is there. Personally i think Kanade is to "mechanical", to metronomic (if that is a word) for my taste. Compared with Senri she is "dead" where Senri is playful, smiling and....alive (I am talking about the preceived "feeling"). This is just my opinion. What i was trying to say in my first post is that many (most) of these talanted young ladies of drums are most of the time judged in the context of being girls. I think that is sad, they are drummers and should be judged by that, atleast first. I don´t know if i make sense to you, english is not my native language.

      @Reg Dewitt LJ Wilson was news to me, thanks for the link. Another kid to keep track of, sigh. (jk, i like seeing artists grow and develop skills and technics) I will keep an eye on the little guy. Speaking of growing talants: This singer is 11yo, drummer is 9, guitar is 11 and bass and keys are both 10. And yes, the vocalist is only 11: ua-cam.com/video/QaPiD1qLmPI/v-deo.html

    "Having watched a lot of drummers over the years, you can tell that some of them play very correctly and that they are schooled drummers. But in some instances, that seems to have resulted in a stiff and not very interesting feel, at least in my opinion. I have always been more influenced by drummers with a more naive, spontaneous way of playing. You might even call it an amateurish way of hitting the drums, as opposed to all the drummers who play correctly.
    If you look at Jack DeJohnette, who definitely knows his rudiments inside out, he has been able to incorporate all that knowledge-you might even say camouflage it so that his playing still sounds fresh. With some other players, it is too obvious that they are playing things they already know-things they have been practicing." //Jon Christensen (20 March 1943 - 18 February 2020)Norwegian jazz drummer.//

      Give Senri a shot, you might like her stuff better, she is pretty inventive with rhythms/timing/constantly changing things up/originality/flair, etc. There is NOTHING naive or amateurish about her, but she does sound fresh and interesting. She also writes some of her own stuff. Here's a reaction to a solo she did for Ziljian that is a good starting point for her solo work:
