I have been using Apple’s Midnight leather and silicone cases for the past months on my iPhone 13. These are both good cases with their own set of strengths. But depending on your style and what you look for in a case, one may be better over the other. Price $49 Silicone case, $59 Leather case. Leather case is $10 more, both still quite expensive. Colour options: Silicone case 8 colors, Leather case 5 colors. Both cases in Midnight to pair with my Midnight iPhone 13. Comparing the two, the leather case is darker. While the silicone has more dark blue undertones. Apple logo on the leather case is embossed. Both cases pair very well with the iPhone 13. Both feature nice microfibre interior. Each case activates Apple’s MagSafe animation, nice touch. Both have a tight fit around the phone, important as this means cases won’t fall off if ever you drop your phone. Silicone case has this nice soft finish. Compared to old silicone cases from apple the silicone is smoother and not as sticky. I like this change, easier to take in and out of pockets, especially slimmer pants. Leather case with natural leather texture has this premium feel that only leather can give. Fine grain texture in the supple leather provides a bit grip while still feeling smooth to the touch. To me the leather case feels a bit more grippy. While the impact absorbed silicone feels a more durable. Leather case has colour matched aluminium buttons that feel clicky. Silicone case, buttons are a bit darker to match the Apple logo and are made of the same silicone as the case so are a bit more mushy and not as tactile. A feature I always find important in a case is raised edges. Both cases feature a plastic raised edge by the camera unit to protect it from surfaces. Around the screen both cases are slightly raised too. I like to see these durability enhancing details. The leather case is only a hair thicker. Having the cases next to each other it is hard to discern the difference. What I can say is that both cases, while not ultra slim cases, only add only minimal bulk to your phone. As expected both are MagSafe and wireless charge compatible. In terms of finger prints, the leather case hold up very well. Practically not showing any in day to day use. While the silicone case does at times show finger prints. The silicone case does attract pocket lint, this can be easily wiped off. The silicone case is the better option if you workout often. If you are sweating the silicone will feel nicer and again is easier to clean. I haven’t really had the need to clean my leather case at all. You can see some variations in the level of shine of the leather from where my hand grips the phone. So who is each case for? Leather case: More classy, Pairs seamlessly with leather wallet, Best for a formal environment. Silicone case: Better for more active lifestyle, More impact resistant, Slightly lower price. For me, the best iPhone 13 case has to be the Leather case, I prefer the leather texture and think it better matches my style and other daily carry.

Been using both of these on my ip13 prm. The leather feels very great on hands while the silicone makes me feel “safe” in daily usage.
I have both and I find myself switching between the two often. I have used the silicone more than the leather so far though.

I pretty much enjoy using my phone with the Apple Leather case more than I do using the phone without a case. It feels even more premium and just more comfortable overall with the Leather Case on.

I ordered both. I was immediately in love with the midnight color on the silicone case (not quite black and not navy). I wasn't as excited for the leather case. I liked the feel of the silicone better and returne dthe leather case. Both were great. To each their own.
Expensive but I feel they are very worth the price! Currently using the leather one on my 13 Pro and thinking of getting the silicone one for a more day to day use as I don’t want the leather to wear too fast! All third party ones feel average after using genuine Apple cases IMO
Hi Nikhil, yes, they are excellent, but (too) expensive. I am always on the look-out for affordable alternatives, but in the end I tend to return to Apple.
i have all cases (Clear Case,Silicone Case and the leather case) and i like the silicone case for the iphone 13 pro the most and all cases are from apple

I usually go caseless but I went with a black Nomad leather case last week. And I’m happy with it, especially since it was on sale. Mainly cause it’s truly black and will age.

Hello. Which one would you say held better overtime? currently can't decide between cases for the 14. Thank you.
People say that the original Apple cases are way too expensive. But I personally think they are worth every penny. 1.) The case is very thin and offers almost unbeatable protection for its (thin) thickness. 2.) The cut-outs are perfectly precise, as their is the position - they are only as large as necessary (minimizes dirt and dust getting into the case). 3.) The microfiber lining protects the phone perfectly from scratches. 4.) The edge around the camera and the display offer good protection for those and the phone itself is maximally covered. 5.) All materials are extremely high quality, they feel great in hand. -For me, no other case offers all these properties combined. Expensive yes, but for me it's worth the money. My last case lasted 5 years.

Great video; I chose the abyss blue silicone case to go with my blue iPhone 13 and it looks really good with the subtle contrast between the colors and also feels great in hands; similar color was not available in leather side and also I don’t like the long term patina effect on the latter.

I never really liked the leather case look. I find that the thin, really precise shape and cuts of the silicone cases are a much more suitable fit for phones
If you drop your phone with the silicone case once it will get some dents or scratches tho and it gets greasy if you have sweaty hands

i purchased recently iphone 13 Pro leather case, and first was defective case (power button not press due to hard button of leather case), got replaced, and believe me second time also, still the problem persist, hence apple care agreed to replace again and send me third time leather case. I am so happy with silicon case for iphone 13 pro, no problem using and is great expereince.

Hands-down the 'Midnight'-colored Apple leather case is my preference.

Hi, the choice depends on many factors. Leather is, in my opinion, a bit more classy, but silicone can be more practical. I go into detail in my video.
I used to get the silicone case for every one of my iPhones but finally got the leather for my 13PM, I am not looking back, it doesn’t show the weird permanent oil stains like the silicone does, that always annoyed me!
Depending on the colour the side gonna turn black from the colour coming off, happened to my green one after 2 weeks I don’t abuse my phones or cases.

I found an Apple Leather case from Best Buy which was ten dollars cheaper. It was the same price as the silicone so I got the leather instead in Midnight. I loved my iPhone 6S red leather case. Wish Apple would come out with a red leather again.

My opinion is if you're going to spend that kind of cash on your iPhone leather case, you might as well go for the premium Bullstrap MagSafe case. Their quality of leather ages much better than Apple leather, and their Ocean color has a deeper hue than the Midnight. All good cases either way!

Hi Giannis, good question! The leather case does offer a raised edge around the camera unit (also screen), this will protect it from surfaces like when being placed on a table.

If I might add my 2cents, I have had the leather case for about a year with just normal wear and tear I’ve notice significant degrading especially around the edges of my leather apple on the top and bottom and on the back. I feel it’s impossible to give and honest opinion of the quality of theses cases within the minimum time frame most of the reviews are basing their opinions on. Let me know in 6 mts to year what hold up better. Because if I spend $50-$60 on a case it better last longer than 6 months. Thank you just the same but check back in 6 mts on the leather. I’m going silicone!
Apple has a 1 year warranty on both cases so technically your paying $50-$60 for 2 cases that’s a good deal I abused my leather 13 pro case and after 7 months took it into a Apple Store and they gave me a new one after pulling my receipt up with my email to prove I bought it from them.

3rd party silicon case or Leather will have weak MagSafe magnet. Apple Original is better for stronger magnet.

actually I’ve found my ESR MagSafe case is stronger than my official leather case.
I use the ESR with my MagSafe pop socket (because it leaves a imprint in the leather case) and I literally struggle to pull it off.
The magnet is so strong in the ESR case it pulls off off my car mount every time I remove it lol

Hi, that is a good question. If you were slim jeans, it is not always easy to get your silicone case out; it is for sure easier with the leather case. Over the years the Apple silicone case has become a bit less sticky though

For silicon case, the discoloring on fingers area will be more obvious in long term especially for someone with sweaty palm like myself.

Hi, can I ask a question about the megsafe for iPhone 13? But why did they want to let the metal frame protrude from the edges on the iPhone 13 and 13pro, while on the 13 pro max it is totally covered ?? I these decisions that Apple makes, I find them very questionable. Aesthetically it is so ugly on 13 and 13pro.
What then grotesque is that I did not think they were made on purpose in this way but I was very sure that the covers were defective or fake, calling Apple support to understand the matter, they did not even confirm that the frame is normal that it comes out slightly from the edges , but even according to them they were defective or not original Apple, Embarrassing !!
Hi, I am not sure where you are referring to, but I can assure you that the megsafe is not protruding from the edges on the 13
@@DionMedia I am referring precisely to the Megsafe silicone for iPhone 13 and 13Pro, I have changed two covers, both do the same on the measures, and then I have had confirmations that - precisely on the 13 and 13 pro models the metal frame on the edges comes out slightly , it's done on purpose on these two iPhone models that overhangs the Megsafe, while on 13 pro Max, it covers them in all 4 corners, edges.

How do people keep their silicone case clean?? It’s a dust magnet. I struggle with that. That’s why i prefer leather always.
Hi, I am leather user as well:). Silicone cases do need their maintenance which will also extend its lifetime. Once or twice per month wash it with luke-warm water and some soft soap. Small stains are easily removed by dishwashing liquid while tougher stains can be removed by the use of isopropyl alcohol or baking soda.
@@DionMedia Thank you! I just realized that out of the many cases I own, only one is silicone and I‘m not a fan of dust and maintenance lol. Sticking to leather.
@@DionMedia Backtracking. After 1 year of light use and not continued use (I have a dozen other cases), there are tiny spots where the leather peels off. Very disappointing. That was my first and last leather case from Apple.

I do not recommend apple's leather cases, the color of leather fades away toooo early, and the quality isn't premium like they said. Definitely doesnt worth it.
Hi Paulo, yes, the patina over time, some people like it, some do not. I prefer the darker colors, where this effect is less visible
They don’t even patina. They have so much coating on them and overtime the paint wears off. It’s not patina. I have 4 Bullstrap cases that all have a beautiful patina. Apple leather is pure crap and a poor excuse for leather.

I wait until my next trip home to see family & friends in the far east to make my new apple purchases, either at the airports or in the big apple stores if I time it right I can get extra ordinary price savings as the consumption tax is lower plus a favourable exchange rate day meant that I saved £105 on the iphone 13 mini & £125 on the ipad mini by purchasing there rather than in europe, & yes spending an additional £100 on quality apple cases & screen protectors represents a sound investment.
