Tip: Before you strip the wire there is a strip marker on the side of the wago connector. Line the wire up with that and stip to that length. Just so you don't have bare wire sticking out the end.
Very helpful video - I've got a Thunderbox in hand and your video made it very straightforward to think about how to install and utilize it. I'm adding heated grips and aux lights - this should make all of that much simpler.
Just finally seen your video about heated grips and lights that usually have earth wires.. i noticed that in your vid that they wasnt needed. Did you remove the earth wire ??
You mean the black wire? The ground? It’s possible i might have connected them to a point on the frame. One way or another, you need the ground to make the accessory work. But often you can ground on to the frame and that itself is connected to the negative terminal of the battery.
I had been interested in one of these and bought one from their site seeing you always come across as a trustworthy and genuine chap and dropped you channel in the comments. Hopefully they’ll send you some more free stuff in return for the sales they get. Love the channel!
Thanks very much Simon! Heatech have been fantastic so far. I think that I now have pretty much everything that they offer for my bike! Just need them to bring out some other clever new gadget now! Enjoy your tidy new electrical setup mate!
I’ve connected my spot lights direct to the TB but would like to install a separate switch to enable me to turn on and off, any ideas about the wiring?
You could connect the ignition wire (white one) and have a switch on that circuit. But that would then switch off everything connected to the TB. Otherwise a switch between the Spotlights and the connection to the TB would do the trick. Of course depending on the draw of your spotlights, you might want to think about putting a relay in there.
I've just used one of these for a Garmin, absolutely flawlessly working great, I can't do electrics and it's made me want to do more, I would never look at a different connection thing if I want to add anything else on another bike 👍
Like the new logo. Hold on, no tank removal! It's not an AMC's garage without the tank coming off to fit that nice new USB cable.keep the videos coming mate.
Thanks Alex! Would it make you feel better if I said that I DID take the tank off, but didn't want to have 5 minutes of the same thing that we've all seen 50 times from me already!! 🤣🤣 I swear I could remove that tank in the dark!!
Good overview, just wanted to confirm something. So I assume the thunderbox "knows" the engine is running because it detects the higher 13+volts from the bike's charging system. So in order to plug in a battery tender, the only way to prevent the thunderbox mistakenly thinking the bike is running, you have to dig out the thunder box, dig out the white wire every time and then connect it to the black? If that's the case I assume connecting the white wire to an ACC power might prevent all that, but then you'd loose the "only while engine is running" function. hmmm Also connecting the permanent lead plug for the battery tender would still require attaching directly to the battery, in addition to the thunder box yeah?
I’m afraid i didn’t delve into that too much as i never had power in the garage. But i did eventually end up connecting the white wire anyway, as it allowed me to keep power to the USB sockets even when the bike was off.
Thanks Andy. Very helpful video - installing tomorrow. The only extra connectors to the battery directly will be the battery optimiser, everything else can go via the Thunderbox connector. Much tidier!
Hello, quick questiion, does your battery optimiser send power to the Thunderbox thus delivering power the electronics? Or, does the Thunderbox recognise power being delivered by an optimiser?
@@oj3311 I have the optimiser connected directly to the battery and then a separate connection for the Thunderbox to the battery. All accessories go via the Thunderbox for power connections. Nice and neat.

Great idea for an accessory. I wondered if it would work with the Oxford heated grips that have a similar switch off circuit, you answered my question.
Thx mate for the info and thorough explanation in your video. Ordered myself one for my MT10sp 22 and installed 4day's later, works as a charm 👍👊 and a sub to you 🤙
Hi Andy the Electricians at work use these Waco fittings instead of the old block connectors , however these can be very weak. Keep your eye on the connections mate .
Yeah I’ve used them a lot too (lighting techie). But i think in this case, the wires are under no tension so should be ok. At least if something should stop working, problem solving is easy and accessible!
Ever have an issue/conflict with the Oxford Heated Grips intelligent controller? Normally it would monitor the power and switch off the grips if you forget. But if connected to the TB it loses power altogether. Thought I saw where someone said they had an issue turning them back on or at least there was a long delay before he could get power to the controller. Other than that, brilliant product and video!
I didn’t, but i did have a problem whereby my Daytona heated grips would switch off whenever i stopped at the lights and the bike was ticking over. Healtech told me that it was because mine was the first batch and it was fixed with firmware on all after that. When i eventually did switch to oxford grips, i connected straight to the battery, as the intelligent controller always worked well for me before so i didn’t see the need to double up on the protection. Then the grips proceeded to kill the battery the first time i parked the bike 🤦🏻♂️ After that they never worked properly again and now i have factory fitted KTM grips on the 1090 that i replaced the Honda with.
Another great video. I'm about to purchase the thunderbox as I drained my battery on Friday night. I had just fitted the SW Motech Electric Tank bag, and left the bag attached to the bike all night (not thinking about how the system worked). So this weekend's solo ride out cancelled due to one shot battery! Not a happy bunny
That’s VERY annoying. I did the same with the Ultimate Addons USB charger (which is now resting in the bin). Finally can rest easy knowing that it can’t happen ever again!!
@@AndyManCam Normally when I fit any accessories to a car or even the odd bike I check it all out with a multi meter. But i was in a rush friday night to get home just thought I'd risk it. Oh well. How you getting on with the GoPro at the moment? Alright bud just a heads up your video has gone that well Bikers Discount Store in the uk have sold out of stock of the 32amp Thunderbox because of your video! Well done bud.
What fantastic bit kit. Brought this after seeing this vid . Placed it in safe place you did but things turn of once bike is hot so have to keep disconnecting it to reset bloody thing unfortunately
Thanks Fred! TBH, not very weather proof at all. They really have to be installed in a dry area of the bike. You could easily replace them with more weatherproof alternatives though. Or solder the connections permanently.
I have watched a lot of your videos. They are really helpful. I also learn a lot of new gadgets which is even more interesting. bought this thunderbox for my zx-12r. really love it!. Please continue with your video's. Also bought the "Wera Tool-Check Plus Mini Bit Ratchet, Socket, Screwdriver & Bit Set, 39pc" as well.
The product seems to be unavailable here in the colonies. Neither of the dealers listed for USA on the Healtech page list it. Motobatt makes a 4-terminal battery, but that does not provide the auto-shutoff function to prevent draining when the engine is off.
That’s a shame. It’s still a very new product and the Corona disaster has probably slowed supply. Might be worth contacting the suppliers to see if it’s in the pipeline?
Interesting, I have a Innov powerhub (V1) on my FZ1 it needs a switched live which I connected to the number plate light using a posi-lock. It has a 5-10 second delay so even if the ignition's on you can use full battery power to crank the bike. I'm surprised it took this long for a company to bring out one of these without the need of a switched live considering heated grips and other accessories which can detect a bike not running existing for a while now. BTW if you use an SAE tender cable you can use Optimate's USB adapter which auto shuts off if the battery hits 12.5V without any ignition being on (SAE cable is connected direct to the battery)
Thanks for the video. I wasn't aware of this gadget til someone on the Vstrom board, StromTroopers, posted a link to your vid. Question; do you think that it could run a small compressor? I have one made by a company called "Motopressor" but I don't know its current draw. I currently (pun intended) have it wired directly to the battery via a fuse.
My pleasure Mart! It’s a great little accessory. I’m afraid without knowing the power needs of the compressor, i couldn’t possibly say for sure. Though considering i run my heated gloves and vest through it, there can’t be that much that it can’t handle!
@@AndyManCam And crappy fuelling due to regs . How the fk is a ‘budget’ bike now 9k ? I use(2nd bike) a 20 year old cbr600 which starts at the touch of a button, handles beautifully, comfortable with smooth throttle and hits 150. All for £2000. Thanks Honda !
Hi again Andy. When you say the white wire can be connected to the black wire to bypass the Thunderbox, why is that good when charging a battery. Do you know if it causes any issues if we forget the white wire completely and charge the battery with the TB in standard auto mode?
Hi Andy, love your channel. As a new rider I just got myself a Triumph Tiger 900 Rally Pro. Been thinking about how I could hook up my gps and the Scottoiler to the battery without interfering with any original cables. When I stumbled over this video I knew I had to get the Thunderbox. Waiting on my TB-U02, which is a nightmare to get. Hope it arrives in the following week. Now to my question. Do you know if the Thunderbox still works when using a Connector, like a Ctek Comfort connector as a possibility to switch between using the thunderbox an hooking the battery up to a charger… Thanks.
Thanks very much! Happy to help! I do remember something about being able to use it with a charger. You just have to do something with the white cable to make it work properly. I’m pretty sure you can download the manual from the website and take a peek at what the score is. But ultimately, yes.
I have 6 cables coming from my VFR800F battery, 3 positive etc. 1. CTECK charger, 2. Bering heated jacket 3. Rock Creek pump. All different end connectors!!. Would I be wise to purchase one of these boxes? The wiring under my seat is not too messy. Would it be overkill?
Not at all! I love the tidiness this thing gives me. The battery is unbothered, plus the extra overload protection is a plus and knowing that nothing can drain the battery while the bike is parked is also a bonus.
Hi, great vid, I have an oxford solar trickle charger wired directly to the battery that lives in my oxford bike cover, can this still be connected in conjunction with the Thunderbox, or do I need to take the white wire directly into the black rail to cancel any power to it? Thanks.
As far as I understood, you could connect 5 different accessories with the 01 version and ten accessories with the 02 version (TB-U02) version (just counting the free connector slots on the device). So I guess that you decided to lower the pressure by connecting 3 things to one 16A circuit and let's say another 3 things to the second circuit. It looks very simple for an electrical rookie like me but I wanted to connect the dual H4 headlights of my bike directly to the battery via a relay and to be honest, I have no idea if these 16 Amps are going to cope with such an electrical pressure. The other thing is what happens if you need to jump-start the bike? Do you need to remove the TB clapms from the battery before doing the jump-start or not?
Pretty much, yes. The total amperage is the important thing. Regarding the lights, you can use the pyramid to calculate that a 60W headlight running at 12v is drawing 60w/12v = 5 Amps. So i think you should be fine.
@@AndyManCam Many thanks for the quick reply and the useful video 🔋Probably I am gonna bet on of those and wait until the 2x16A version is available (now there is only the single, 16A version online).
Thanks Maarten! I don’t have the quickshifter on this bike (yet). But if i remember correctly, it gets it’s power from the connections to the sparkplugs directly. 👍🏻

This is brilliant. I can really see the advantages of this. TB-U02 32 amp one is £79.99 on Ebay - Couldn't find it on BDS racing website though.
Hey Geoff. Try this: www.bikersdiscountstore.co.uk/thunderbox-power-distribution-module-pl-149.php
@@AndyManCam Found it. Thanks.
Awesome bit of kit. I think I will get myself one. You should get a commission!
I really should! Seems like this will be a very popular little gadget for Healtech.
Awesome, that's going on both my bikes. 👍
I'm looking at a way of getting my hero 7 attached too the bike and not the usual helmet mounts as the issues Bruce has had with the mic is off putting.
Alright bud just a heads up your video has gone that well Bikers Discount Store in the uk have sold out of stock of the 32amp Thunderbox because of your video! Well done bud.
Exactly what I was looking for. Nice one.
Glad I could help
What fantastic bit kit. Brought this after seeing this vid . Placed it in safe place you did but things turn of once bike is hot so have to keep disconnecting it to reset bloody thing unfortunately
Excellent video. Thank you! Makes everything clear. Question: is there an issue charging the battery after the Thunderbox is installed?
Great product & video 👍🏼
Just makes everything proper factory 🤓
Cheers Joe. I agree. Far tidier under the hood now!
Another great video. How weather proof do you think the connector hubs are?? Brilliant product tho!!!!
Thanks Fred! TBH, not very weather proof at all. They really have to be installed in a dry area of the bike. You could easily replace them with more weatherproof alternatives though. Or solder the connections permanently.
Sorry found your link spot on
Cool. Enjoy!
Many thanks again Prijsm. I will do my very best to keep them coming!
Great video. Think this could be really handy for me with all the accessories on my blade
Thanks! It's definitely very useful for tidying up the electrics! Makes installs way quicker too.
I agree. The need for this and the capability has been staring is in the face for years! At least it’s here finally!
Just ordered mines Andy. Cheers for the info 👍
Very handy, Andy Man Cam! I wonder if they'll do a version that has a 2A USB socket built in... I would find that very useful.
Possible. Though fitting the extra one was childsplay really.
Very nice. I like that piece of kit
Me too. Certainly tidied up my battery area!
awesome piece of kit..
Agreed. Love when simple kit is well done and fully delivers on its promises!
Great demonstration!
A 1989 Goldwing had two studs that you could bolt accessories to. How did they get it so right back then, and modern manufactures can’t do that now?
Cost, profit, money, shortcuts! So much has gotten worse, not better!
Hi Andy
Very good video and this is a great system. Please be clear though that you CANNOT connect a smart charger directly to the thunderbox
Fantastisch! Ich brauche auch eine👍😜
Na klar! Auf jeden Fall!
Looks a handy bita kit matey.
Proper handy!! Shame I've got all the accesories already!!
Awesome vid Andy. Exactly what I’ve been looking for 👍
good fix, and good vid, properly need to do a purchase !!!
Cheers Sam. It’s a bit of a no brainer accessory. And really quite cheap too!
Thanks for sharing this, it’s a great idea.
My pleasure, thanks for watching Liam.
Andy Man Cam I’ve finally gotten around to ordering the bits. Hope to fit them this weekend. 👍😁
What an awesome little piece of tech :-) Thx for the video ;-)
Cheers Thomas. My pleasure!
Andy the Man!
Cheers Aldo!
Love the install videos
Glad to hear it! Thanks for watching!
Thanks.
I’m afraid I’m not sure. Maybe try giving Healtech an email. They’re usually very helpful and knowledgeable.
that was truly helpful!
thanks mate!
Glad to hear that!
Thanks for this interesting video, always worth a look into your channel to find great articles and installation
Nice video!! Do you also plug in your quickshifter into the thunderbox or do you connect that direct on your battery??
Thanks Maarten! I don’t have the quickshifter on this bike (yet). But if i remember correctly, it gets it’s power from the connections to the sparkplugs directly. 👍🏻
@@AndyManCam Yes that's true. After a better check from myself i see the quickshiftter don't connect to the thunderbox. Thanks fore your answer
No problem!!🤙🏼
Great informative video. Thanks. 👍
Thank you Jim!
Hi Andy
I came to this video after some searching on Thunder Box.
Have you had any issues during rain or while washing the bike?
Hi,
I also installed this box on my motorcycle, but I have a problem...
My heated grips stay on when I turn off the engine, the box doesn't turn off even after several minutes... any idea?
Thierry motard français
I’m afraid i have no idea. Maybe contact the experts at Healtech, I’m sure they’ll be able to help you out. 👍🏻
Thanks Andy, looks so easy to install. My battery looks exactly the same ... so many wires to the battery terminals. I've just bought one from your link and it's a very good price. Top man👍
Super easy! My electrical setup is now so much cleaner! With spare slots for more stuff! Happy to help mate. Enjoy the battery terminal freedom!
Hi Andy from northern Ontario Canada, this is just what I have been looking for on my 2019 Suzuki v-strom 650. I need to and some extra lights for night rides into work. Now just need to find where to get it and how much in Canada. Great install video. Cheers
Thanks Shawn. Very happy to be of service dear boy. Happy simple installations!
Excellent video review. Looks like a good piece of kit. I think I will have to invest in one for the bike, it a very neat solution. Cheers
Thanks very much Adam. It was so easy, this video practically made itself! Another win from Healtech.
Nice bit of kit! 😁 👍
It sure is!
Hi! Stumble upon your video while looking at healtech's website. Does your phone indicate that its fast charging when you use their usb port?
No it doesn’t. But then again it also doesn’t show me that it’s fast charging when i connect it to my Macbook charger. 🤷🏻♂️
Hey, great video thank you, just had 1 question its regards to the parking mode on a dashcam, how would you go about wiring it to the heal Tech TB?
Hey AMC gid vis as normal, don’t know if you notice you’re are missing a pop rivet on your LH side faring at the seat.
Thanks! Yeah, that’s been missing for a while and i haven’t gotten round to sourcing a replacement!
Hey, great video. I was just wondering if you had a link or a name to the USB outlet you have mounted on the handle bars?
Sure! I bought it a LONG time ago, but I'm pretty sure it's this one: amzn.to/2UijTII
@@AndyManCam thank you!
My pleasure! Happy charging!
Thanks for all the how to videos, help me so much and you explain it perfectly. I been buying healtech because of you lol. But i have a question for ya, do you experience hot seat after riding for 45 mins? If so do you have any suggestions on how to fix it or help dissipate the heat. Thanks.
Hey! Glad to help! I do get a hot seat, but it's because of my engine, not the Thunderbox! You could try some heat shielding. My bike has it all over the underside of the fuel tank and over the battery.
