    Thanks for this project. We have a wood burning fireplace and cleaning the ash out of it was always a real mess, I used the scrap fabric to make a couple of filter sleeves for the canister filter extra protection. I used to wrap the filter with paper towel. It should go without saying, but make sure there are no burning embers when vacuuming out your fireplace.

    What a great idea! I could see this idea replicated for expensive indoor vacuum bags, and chop saw/table saws too.

    Thank You for this Awesomeness Extreme video.
    What a great idea!
    The filter clogging has always been a hassle, for years and years. I couldn’t even find a paper filter for the big size of Rigid vacuum I have.
    I’ll be making some or these for sure.

    Brilliant. People might leave some 'wings' or tabs (by sewing farther in from the edge) on the foam that goes over the inlet. Most of the cardboard ones have this. I've had shop vacs that didn't have the big inlet pipe for the bag to slip over -- they were never intended to have a bag. I just hold the 'foam' opening in place over the inlet and duct tape it to the side of the vac. (might have to clean it first). It's always worked. I really like this project.
    Also when there's a dust build up inside the machine, but outside the bag. I'll use compressed air or another vac to clean that up.
    And if you have a sensitive area, like my photography darkroom? Get a vac that has a connector for the exhaust. Attach another hose and run it outside. I used to run one around the outside of my darkroom. Vacuum cleaners can pulverize and static charge dust into tiny particles. These can get deep in your lungs -- or they will always find their way on to a film negative. I had almost no dust problem in my darkroom. Doing boat work of course this would work really well to keep the inside dust free.

    Hey Guys you should make up DIY bag kit to sell for different size vac's. Everything could be precut and have all the pieces you need in the kit. Put a DIY instructions how to printout in the box and bam bobs your uncle. They would sell like crazy😀😀

    • @SailriteDIY
      @SailriteDIY  6 місяців тому +1

      Thanks for the suggestion! The fact of the matter is the Spun Bonded Polyester fabric we used in the video is so flexible that an oversized sized bag could fit in almost any size shop vac (as long as it is not excessively too large). The extra bag materail would simply expand to fill the dust collection canister, any excess fabric will simply wrinkle up on the sides of the canister. However, the only issue is that the bag bottom must reach the bottom of the vac, so the weight of the dirt is not putting excessive stress the bag. So... we could probably make three sizes of bags and make a kit, I will have to do some thinking about that. Thanks again!!!!

    How does the material hold up when picking up other debris? Small blocks of wood, screws, chunks of stuff?

      It held up great with anything I sucked up. Still impressed, as I use my shop vac weekly for construction and woodworking.

    Gee do I love those videos from Sailrite !!!! I have a question. I would like to make a reusable vacuum bag for my home upright vacuum cleaner. Is it important to have that specific fabric or can I use coton or nylon. I was not able to look at the fabric used in the video as the link for the spun bonded polyester does not work. However I went on the Sailrite website and found the fabric used for making pillows. I guess that is the right fabric. Thanks for all your good work.

    • @SailriteDIY
      @SailriteDIY  2 місяці тому

      Thanks for your very kind comments. I have fixed the links. Using a woven fabric like nylon or cotton may not catch the dust like a spun bonded fabric. So... I would recommend using this: www.sailrite.com/Spun-Bonded-Pillow-Protector-62-Fabric Yes, it is the same stuff that pillow inserts are made of.

      @@SailriteDIY Can you tell me what fabric was used for the prototype on the video. What do you mean by "nylon or cotton may not catch the dust'? Where would it go? As I speak french I am not sure what you mean. Thanks.

    reusable filter for drywall dust is a really bad idea - it will clog strongly after the first usage already..
    Sawdust is way better collected with a cheap cyclones. I made mine for less than 20 bucks using a cyclone from Ebay and a paint bin - still happy.
    Putting all that dust in a container without a bag is also terrible - during pick up all that gips dust will go in the air and cover all around, including lungs of workers.

    • @SailriteDIY
      @SailriteDIY  6 місяців тому +1

      I understand your concern, that is why we tested the concept thoroughly before we made the full video. Here were the results: Using the prototype bag we made out of the spun bonded polyester (as seen in the video) we filled the bag with about 10 to 12 lbs of drywall dust 3 separate times and the vac still had strong suction each time. The 3 other fills were done using a chop saw with sawdust and the vacuum again had very strong suction, without cleaning the filter once and using the same bag. I also own two cyclone systems, but I can't move my shop vac around the construction site easily with that system. I love it also, but my system is not easy to move around, so I use it only on my non-portable saws. Don't you also have to dump your cheap cyclone buckets after they are filled? I know I do.

    • @TushhsuT
      @TushhsuT 6 місяців тому +1

      @@SailriteDIY I see.
      I also dump the trash, of course, but I dump it first in the plastic bag and dispose it like that. Probably not as "eco", but definitely way less dust. Probably you have restrictions on which trash is allowed in the container..
      Mobile cyclone is also possible - look how other guys made a combi system and placed it on the small board with wheels. It could look unpractical, but actually It is really good. Main part of trash lands in cyclone and only the finest dust goes into the vac. Easier cleaning, less reusable bags needed :)

  • @jafallica
    @jafallica 6 місяців тому +3

    Where is your dust mask???? No gloves??? Nuts! You’re breathing in all that dust! Going right into your lungs! Abd where do you dump the bag? The dust is still going to go everywhere.

    • @SailriteDIY
      @SailriteDIY  6 місяців тому +3

      Ya, I should have a mask on, but after the C19 I want nothing to do with them. However, that was the time to wear one. As I said, the bag should be dumped outside.
