Meshuggah Zone (Sega Megadrive)

- This is a videogame reinterpretation of Meshuggah's music.
The first part contains Automony Lost, followed by Rational Gaze. Instead of doing a simple midi-to-vgm FL Studio hack job, I did more by meticulously changing things around, slightly altering bass/guitar lines, thickening the sound with some delicious high-end synths, increasing general tempo, and more importantly: I've added extra melodies and twiddly bits.
The hardest part however, was to get this all sounding relatively nice, and while I still think some parts could have been done better (like the solo), I think it sounds pretty solid. So put your volume on max and bang your head along to this track!!
Plugins 'n stuff used: Magical8bit, FM7, FM8, Nexus, NES Soundfont, The Ultimate Megadrive Soundfont, Sonic 2 ripped drum samples, SynthFont program (for the pitch bending solo, FL Studio failed at it)
MP3: 8bitcollective....
My man you were 13 years ahead of the rest of humanity
This might be what started it all, this was before it's time
Thank you!! What exactly did I start? :p If it's the concept of chiptune covers of metal music - it was already all the rage back then, but they were really crappy MIDI conversions with little effort put into it so I decided to do something arguably better lol. Thanks for still tuning in
Meseggah
I'm amazed at the positive feedback, and ashamed of having dropped this youtube account for so long, only to return to find these awesome comments. I don't know if I'm making more of these, but I'm definitely considering ;) Stay tuned, people? Peace!
if i check your channel and dont find more i will be disappointed and sad.
EDIT: ............
@@monkeyrobotsinc.9875 D:
Years and years later I still come back, you did such a good job! With it being a mixture of songs and the notes and timing being different but so familiar makes this a song worth going down in history!
This is seriously a one-of-a-kind sound. Killer. Way ahead of its time.
Seeing the artwork makes me thing of a sidescrolling vectorman style game where you play as Jens and Fredrik and you slay the copulating snake creatures of hell with line9 cabinet powerups and bladed guitar swords and mortal kombat style blood.
HOLY SHIT, thats a game i would play!
+M Luminoth YES! The final boss would be the guy from the Obzen cover.
Donald Record or the album cover from Koloss
I was thinking about the snakes too!!!
@@DonaldRecord His main attack would be beams in the shape of 6 out of his hands.
That would be rad.
I WANT THE WHOLE MESHUGGAH DISCOGRAPHY DONE LIKE THIS. YEEEEAAAAAH.
yes. what he said. do this.
2:39 I like juice
it is the true, filtered vitamined substance
Lmao
The entire thing is awesome but Rational Gaze part... Man what happens at 1:36 is really something special. Original song (masterpiece already) transcends into whole new level of beauty.
The fact that this doesn't have more views is criminal.
This is the greatest thing I've ever heard.
I found this about three years ago and I still love it.
Same here, and I never even heard the original song
Man, I stumbled across this video 10 years ago, but I didn't really care much for it. I guess my ears weren't ready for these wicked rhythms back then. I'm really glad I stubbed my toe on this gold brick again. Meshuggah tunes sound absolutely magnificent as dark synth! Makes me wish for an entire album done in this style.
See my comment too
This is AWESOME, possibly the best Meshuggah reinterpratation I've heard
I honestly never leave comments, but i feel compelled to let you guys know that your art is truly inspiring. I just lost the love of my life and at rock bottom i soĺd most of my studio gear and as if things couldn't get any worse the last to guitars I had were stolen. Anyway seeing you two and what you've accomplished is so damned endearing, and you alls style is my flavorite. For some reason, you guys helped me feel hope again. Thank you for the inspiration.
Uh...wow. This is, by FAR, the best retro-styled interpretation of a non-video game song I think I've ever heard. The melodies that you've added in to accentuate the rhythms really make this stand out. I'm mad that I'm only just discovering it now in 2024, haha.
This is really good. Never heard a chiptune metal peace that was this good. Sega had such awesome synths!
ive looked up 8bit metal covers for quite a while now
HOW WAS THIS NOT RECOMMENDED TO ME EVER?
i love you and i hate youtube...
but at the same time, i wouldnt be here without it
holy shit this is atmospheric as hell. 13 year old gem 🙏
Only just discovered this, Holy hell this is amazing!! I'd listen to a whole album of this!!
Still checking back here for a part 2. No other chiptune style Meshuggah style covers I've seen hit quite as hard as this. Truly an underrated gem.
Splendidly done!
I'm a Meshuggah fan, through and through, and I think I can say that this does proper justice to their music.
You should mix more of their songs. They have quite a few technical ones to offer as you've shown us here.
Meshuggah does what OtherBandsDon't.
Blast Processing!
My congratulations. This is awesome!
14 years later I still keep coming back to this from time to time
It is so unique and amazing ! Wish there were more meshuggah tracks in this style
It's been a decade and I still love this and listen to it.
This is awesome - fortunate that this showed up in my recs after all the recent video game soundfont content
Sounds amazing and surprisingly appropriate, you should really consider doing more of this
man.. this is the most amazing remix ever.. you should really make a whole set of remixes for a bunch of meshuggahs songs.. this is a complete eargasm. amazing job
This is amazing. Please come back
Everything down to the cover art A1 🔥🔥🔥 cure for my unrest 👽
This is VERY authentic! I literally can picture this fitting into many a title on the Megadrive in the day...Love this!
So much thought put into it!
This actually sounds really awesome, you really made this sound original! Will download and enjoy.
this is beyond awesome
I want more. I actually find this as good as the Meshuggah songs themselves.
I have goosebumps. This is beautifully heavy. As a Sega fan and Meshuggah lover I say... great fucking job.
You (uploader) said in the description that you were not statisfied about the solo part. But I think this totally fits the song, it's a very retro-ish typical high pitch 16-bit tune. Sounds awesome!
this is absolutely sick. respect
This is still one of my absolute favourite pieces. Absolutely ADORE this.
I've loved this rendition for years and now all these years later, I've made this the background music for my MEGA SD. Its perfect!
First impression in the year 2023 and good god this is awesome. I'm typing this out barely even two minutes in.
When I first saw this, I expected another typical cover, but this shit is amazing. Perfect sound font for Meshuggah!
unbelievably f*cking amazing. you rule.
Had to listen to this again after just having a Mega Drive sesh...Sonic Spinball to be exact and MY GOD is this so authentic! That dark sounding bass wave...the drums...It's as if my Mega Drive itself is playing my Meshuggah album. :-)
omg this is so great. best meshuggah cover i've heard so far. so mature. awesome!!
This is SO damn sweet!
This is incredible! I'm repeating the song all night! Insane! Well done buddy, keep on doin' this stuff !..!
This is awesome! You made an awesome job
Why does this not have more views?
Favorited, thumbs up, subscribed.

10/10 this is really good.
Seggah Meshudrive
This sounds class! Sounds like peak NIN
Amazing, I love the sound of a Yamaha YM2612, just great when used properly, had more character than SNES's wavetable.
Fucking lovely, man. A refreshing way to enjoy this beautiful music
Damn this goes crazy
This is too sick
That transition, maaaan, i love this!
This slaps tbh.
This is awesome.
Meshuuuuu-ken.

Wow! Awesome! Really nice idea and execution. I'll go hit the subscribe button now.
This music sounds like it could accompany a boss battle in Metroid Prime.
Late post, but we are so much on the same level. Thank you :D
@@ragnarragnarful Funny, I forgot all about this song and just got new headphones yesterday. Will have to give this a re-listen for sure!
Ten years later and this song is stil hardcore as fuck
this is brilliant
.75x goes crazy on some of these sections

unbelievably sick

The beginning reminds me of Deus Ex.

Look at me coming back third day in a row

You're still alive?
awesome picture
looks like old mortal kombat's ost. amazing!!
This is awesome, thank you, and gief more!
So, I had never even heard of meshuggah, so I looked up the songs you did. I barely see any similarity other than the drums, and the same 2 notes. I don't like meshuggah, but I love this. Also, the way you did the picture for this... it looks like Mortal Kombat.
Just bought new Knower album, it seems they have paid homage to this around 2:10 of Do Hot Girls Like Chords!
Hey, I took a listen to it and I have to admit the resemblance is very uncanny, but I'd think it's because they were referencing Meshuggah directly instead of my little cover track here! ^^ Thanks for introducing me to a great and interesting band!
@@HeadshockProductions haha cool, well you never know. Knower are indeed amazing and I wouldn't be surprised if your classic cover had appeared on their feed somehow. Congrats again on your timeless tune!
@@legatrix Thank you so much!! I keep getting surprised by the positivity this upload has brought to people for a decade and a half now :O I no longer compose under the name of Headshock, but I'm still somewhat active - I just miss a good social music website like back in the day with 8bc.org or last.fm and such. Soundcloud ain't it either ^^;
Most def gonna be my ringtone from now on....
PLEASE MAKE MORE!
This is just incredible. I'd love a copy of the Mp3...looks like the link in the description is dead.
You can find this in the 8bitcollective archive:
ia601200.us.archive.org/tarview.php?tar=/11/items/Best_of_8_Bit_Collective-2006-2011/Best_of_8_Bit_Collective-2006-2011.tar
That link also appears to be dead now.
You can find it here now brkbrkbrk.com/8bcdump/, just look for the right link, right click it and save. Be warned though, music will autoplay on the website and it broke my ears.
