That's not what this is about. These vehicles are deliberately limited and therefore have limitations that other, dedicated off road vehicles do not. The same way you don't put specialised rally cars in typical off road events, and why Jeeps and Land-rovers don't compete in rally events.
If one of these rolls over in a hurry a helmet isn't going to help. Your neck and upper body are going to be sandwiched between the upturned car and the ground. Fighter pilots and stunt flyers used to wear cloth or leather skull caps. Some still do, because a modern helmet won't save you if you and your aircraft hit the ground at 200mph plus. 😂
If there was no other type of motorsport to choose from...maybe. but given the vast selection to take interest in this ain't it. Other then that it's probably cheap as hell to get started I can't see why anyone would get into this lol but with that being said respect to anyone that does like it I just can't wrap my head around the fact that this many people do this lol
You can say the same about almost any sport or hobby, including the ones you like. Who wants to spend a weekend dangling a fishing line in the local pond? Who wants to spend time playing card games, darts or snooker? Who wants to lift huge weights or be punched in a boxing ring? Who wants to spend months creating a sculpture or writing a book? This is as technically challenging as any other sport, and you don't need a multi million pound race circuit to do it, you don't need vast amounts of money and it's something that you can do at any age. But it does take patience and skill.
Do you pay for the environmental damage you do in your own garden or land that you own? Race tracks typically cover huge areas in concrete and asphalt. Iice rinks and football fields cover huge areas, as do swimming pools and other sporting venues. They all typically take place on privately owned land, just like motor trials. 🙄
