  • We go around some little known areas of Salisbury with a peek inside a Zero Bunker which is one of the only of its kind in the UK and would have served as a communcations point for the eyes and ears intelligence officers who were embedded in a Uk being ovrerun by Nazi Germany if the worst happened.
Then we move on to The Salisbury Urban Disctrict Control Centre where control of the masses would be directed after a Nuclear emergency. Formerly a dark and cold bunker it has been turned into a modern and stylish recording studio and practice rooms which is 100% soundproof. We do an extensive look throughout the whole area with big thanks to Kayleigh who was a great sport for showing us around in such detail.
A whopping 1.2hours of bunker heaven...

Nice to see buildings being repurposed instead of simply being sealed off and left to rot! Great video - Toby was very knowledgable and without him you'd never of found that entrance..

YES SHE BENEFITS FROM TRHE WAR, BUT I WHO HAS MY LIFE TOTALLY WRECKED BY THE WAR AND LOST BOTH LOWERB LEGS THROUGH IT CAN GET NO FUNDS TO GET MY MOBILIOTY BACK, A VERY UNFAIR WORLD. , SHE IS PRIVILEDGED, BY THE WAR, BUT I AM UNPRIVILEDGED BY THE WAR = VERY WRONG. WHY DO PERSONS LIKE HER WHO DID NOT NEED THE FUNDS URGENTLY GET MONEY, YET PERSONS LIKE I WHO URGENTLY NEED FUNDS GET NOTHING = THE SYSTEM IS VERY OUIT OF ORDER IN THE UK !!!.

I went down there (Harnham) when i was 15 years old in 1981 and it was already deserted but still had loads of furniture, fittings and wall maps, I really thought it would be filled in by now. Amazing its been renovated and used.. Is the second one Groveley Woods. Looks like it, if it is, there is another larger one nearby.

Just watching this after being subscribed for over 5 years and it's great to see the redevelopment of existing Heritage instead of it going to Rot!
I have to say that the Youth project and 'Recording Studio' idea is fantastic! BUT It would be like the echo chamber from Hell without Anechoic panelling on the walls!

That bunker we used to get into when we were kids, its far bigger than you think, it was sealed off & access to the rest was taken away, if you go to the other end of the hill to the chalk pits you can still see the tunnel rail access that used to go to the bunker..

That is one truly interesting explore Matthew and well worth a watch. Nice to see the old Cold War bunker has been turned into something useful rather than a vandalised wreck, a shame it’s lost some of its old features but hopefully they are in a museum somewhere locally. Keep up the good work.

Essex Square just down from the chalk pit was a prisoner of war camp in WW2. When I started school in 1957/8 my classroom was an old Nissen hut probably left from the camp.

My mum was stationed there A.T.S she looked after the “special” prisoners. They were held in solitary cells. They got very well fed. Germans had German style food, Italians had Italian food. She was ordered never to talk to them, but she did as she felt sorry them not being able to communicate with anyone. She especially liked one German prisoner. He gave her a Messerschmitt airplane filed from a coin. She was afraid to keep it in case she got found out so she buried it under a tree nearby in forest. She went to find it when she was demobbed but forgot which tree.

I'd been in the cold war bunker near Shrewsbury (the ladders down are now VERY rusty and your at serious risk smashing your legs up if you fall) and from what I'd been told, they never used it at all, and at one time, even left behind old early forms of hazmat type gear.

Ah now I'd forgotten about these boys!
I was the person who managed to find the bunker in Plessey Woods, Northumberland. That bunker had been mapped incredibly badly (on purpose perhaps?) and no-one could find it. Long story short I enlisted the help of old time poachers and they sent me onto the right place.
The Plessey one was detonated post war but the walls and escape tunnel are very visible. The escape tunnel leads to a 140 foot drop down a very steep slope and into a river below.
I couldn't find buried wires in trees (aerials) and a lot of sheet metal had been robbed out. Turned out those poachers of old had taken the arched metal many decades previously and made shelters to sit under - like small canopies! They've painted them black too. I actually found those poachers shelters eventually.
The site in your video is very well preserved. Other tunnels I've seen were made of wood like small coal mines.

@@TheSecretVault No its a pretty normal looking building tbh, it was close to the Kirkby amunition factory. If you search 'Simonswood industrial estate kirkby' on maps it's the building to the left as you go in. There may well be other parts left intact in the vicinity, I think there was a large explosion at the amunition works during the war.
