I was feeling down because of work and I thought a friendly voice would cheer me up. Indeed it was good to hear Robin's warm and friendly commentary in this video, and his upbeat manner really does cheer up a dreary work day. You deserve your expensive coffee Robin :)
Robin, what a great video. I have only been to Malaysia briefly when I was a young adult (Pulau Sibu) - I was deeply impressed by that experience then. People may know you as a brand ambassador for Olympus - but what I am really taking away from your videos (not gear videos) is your ambassadorship for Malaysia as an incredibly warm and friendly place.
LX10 is my favorite camera it's such a great compact you can carry anywhere. It really does have great results too. That lens... is wonderful. Thanks for the video it's great to see your world.
Many thanks for the video, brought back memories for me when I was in Kuching over 30 years ago trouble shooting tire/wheel problems at the BMW assembly plant. The villages were a truly memorable experience..never forgotten👍😃
Great video. I typically use a Olympus OMD for my sports photography and wanted something a bit smaller for an upcoming vacation/holiday trip. Thanks again for the inspiration to keep up with photography.
Thank you for this video. My LX 10 turns 5 years old. It is still my portable cinematic beast. I use it w/ ND filters and it is always mounted on my Zhiyun crane M. I will try to experiment with it in the near future w/ a Promist filter for an upcoming return to Japan later this year. Other things I have are canon s95, 100D, 70D, STM lenses, Dji spark, gopro6 (destroyed), gopro11 and a Lumix zs200 actually. But still the LX 10 is the main go to guy on trips. I am not a pro just an enthusiast taking videos of my wife & me on trips. Again thank you for this video.

I've been looking for a compact camera to take along with me for my month long trip to the Philippines in the summer. The LX10 looks like the perfect camera for that. The best part is that it is not too expensive.
Thanks, Robin. 👍Nice to see you trying out something other than Olympus. I have/had many small sensor Panasonic cameras, but always struggle to get the vibrant, clear colors that Olympus produces right out of the camera. For the price the LX10 offers quite a bit.
Not sure how long you have been gone, but I have tried at least 20 different cameras that is non Olympus, especially more recently. Nikon D600, Ricoh GR IIIX, Pentax K-01, Canon 5D, Fuji X100F, Panasonic GM1, Nikon D50, just to name a few.
As much as I love my black & white, it would be very hard for me NOT to shoot color there. So many wonderful color schemes there. What a great walkabout that was.

Wonderful video Robin, had to look up that camera, what a gem! Looks like one of those "fun" cameras! Thanks for sharing! Excellent results too! love the colours and what a great place to shoot!
I bought a lumix LX5 for a reasonable price of $150CAD. It was in mint condition and came with the box and manuals. It takes very attractive black and white photos and images are very sharp. I hope you make a review on it
Thanks, the LX10 is indeed a great camera. I don't think it is worth making a review now, such an old camera, though still a great camera. Whatever there is to be said about the camera already has been said!
Hi Robin, thanks for another interesting video, you look so relaxed there you'd best do more of it (please). Kieron's b&w photos are terrific but in that environment when the colours are so vibrant it seems a shame not to capture them. I fully appreciate the early morning and evening light but often have to shoot in strong/harsh light here in Australia and I love to do so. Thanks again for another fine post.
Hey Robin, thanks for the fun and informative video. I'd been thinking of getting a quality compact like the LX10, and your post and video helped me decide to buy one. Hope I can capture some good photos too. Thanks!
Hey Robin, t hanks for that shoot, it was fascinating. I am particularly impressed with how you get such impressive depth of field while shooting at such low f numbers and apparently close focus distance. Your shots are awesome - any extra tips? Thanks again.
Thanks Terry. I don't think there is anything more to share than showing how I captured the shots through the POV video! I have also shared all the settings per image.
it was not good recording video due to very severe focus issue that cause impossible to making a video..but it looks very nice and durable and it would be fun to use it for taking a picture...
Hi i have the same camera model, this camera is stunning when taking still photos, however for shooting videos there is too much shaking involved even the built-in stabilization doesn't really help, can you recommend a good gimbal for this type of camera? Thanks so much in advance. 😇
Great video. I purchased an LX10 for my trip to Japan due to pocketability. Your video helped me in that decision. However, the camera for my purposes (vlogging) was not good. Autofocus is horrible. No stabilization. No option for external mic. For these reasons my videos were highly flawed (check my Japan videos on my channel for real footage examples). I wouldn't recommend this camera to those wanting a small camera for vlogging. There are many competitors recently that are cheaper (used) and better (sony zv1, sony zv1-f, osmo dji 2, etc.).

Hi Robin, need your opinion, does Lumix LX10 better than nowdays smartphone with their computational photography? Im currently using Fujifilm X-A7 and it's good camera but together with the lens+hood it's not so compact for me to bring for a random sudden trip, therefore i'm looking for a budget compact camera like Lumix LX10 for travel photography but not sure if this camera can take better photo than nowdays smartphone technologies with their computational photography, since i will of course carry my smartphone everytime everywhere

I've never been to malaysia. The people there seem like very nice people. I want to visit Malaysia nd Singapore for my next Asia trip. I've visited Taiwan and Japan before. Taiwanese people are very nice and they were very helpful when our group had a medical emergency. 9:27 I understand your situation. I bought fast lenses and spent so much time taking picture of my kitties. They never stay still and one of them is a black cat and the photo never comes out right. I got a 42.5mm leica lens for my lumix camera and I was so happy when I finally got a beautiful picture of him. they're probably annoyed by me taking pictures of them lol
Can you give a reasonable explanation why someone would buy a very expensive camera that only takes black and white photos, when any camera can do that?
Typical color cameras use a color filter array (typically Bayer) over the sensor which means that each pixel in the final image is an interpolation of the surrounding pixels, which in a way leads to a loss of fine resolution. The Q2 monochrome has no color filter array, so each pixel is more “pure” and “true” to the light intensity hitting it. So there’s that. The other thing is that limitation can inspire creativity. Sort of like how shooting with a prime can inspire different kind of shooting than with a zoom. So I can totally see why one one would want to shoot with a Leica monochrome. Heck, if I could afford one, I’d get one.
Its a very different look. Portraits really pop, because there's differences in how much texture monochrome sensors can bring out versus color sensors. And to add to what's been said, not having the Bayer filter not only means higher detail for the pixel count, but also better light sensitivity. My old phone has a dedicated black and white sensor, and light sensitivity and detail are comparable to a color sensor five years younger and with double the sensor size. I often use it to shoot sports because it shoots so much faster than anything else I carry.
Because, black and white is a world of its own. You don't have to like it, that's fine. But serious black and white shooters will appreciate the benefits of a true monochrom sensor. It resolves finer details, better contrast and purer black and white look.
For serious work and my paid shoots, of course I'd prefer my Micro Four Thirds gear. But for travel, one camera to do it all, in a compact form factor, is godsent!
