I've watched countless hours of UA-cam personalities and you've become one of the few that I trust to give me it to me straight. First, you have credentials, which so many lack. Second, you approach things much like I prefer to, simple and good enough to get done without overdoing things for no reason. I've been after a pocket camera for a while and have watched your videos on the RX100 VII at least 5 or 6 times. I pulled the trigger today on the little Sony, though it was nice to have videos like this to compare other models to it, your reasons for the RX100 VII being your favorite little camera convinced me. Looking forward to having that little powerhouse in my hand and seeing what I can do with it. Thanks for your content and for sharing your expertise and your approach, it's much appreciated!!
Refreshing to see someone show what can be done with lower costing gear. Like that he is not pushing the latest, greatest and expensive stuff and has the experience to know what works.
I tell you, I like the idea of the f1.4 aperture, but I’d like to be able to shoot video of myself without a crazy crop in at the 24mm end. Does this camera crop in when shooting 4k video?
Markus, your videos , advice and experience are so valuable. Your no bs approach to products , price and hope are liberating! Thanks and don’t leave us!
I've still got my RX100 mk5. I stopped upgrading after Sony removed the f1.8 aperture and the built-in ND filter. I love my mk5. The viewfinder is a must. I have an A6500, an a6000 an A7R5, a Sony FDR-X3000 video and several insta360 options BUT If I have to travel with just one camera it will be the RX100V. It is compact, has good image quality, has built-in ND, a viewfinder and fits a really great underwater housing. Sony always seem to get close to creating the perfect camera and then cock it up.
@@phillipbanes5484I added a magfilter system to mine. It enables quick and easy swap for polarizer, 10 stop and even a wide angle adapter lens. If only sony had added a mic jack and touch screen for focus it would have been near perfect.
Would you recommend it in terms of video? Looking for something that can take photos and videos but mostly care for quality over all additional features
@@_zed Video quality is great but no mic jack on the mkv. The built-in ND filter helps a lot for video. I also use magnetic filters if necessary. Records 4k at 25. HFR up to 960 fps but quality deteriorates significantly.
I had the RX100 mVA for 3yrs and loved it. It does have a 1in. sensor, takes great photos, has a pop up flash , pop up EVF, an aperture control ring, and flip up screen, (loved that). Negatives that caused me to sell it for the more video centric ZV1: -Colors are flat straight out of camera -No touch screen LCD -4K video limited to 5min clips. -4k video clips can be recorded consecutively after 5min but over heats. -HD stabilization works great but no stabilization hand held in 4k video and can’t stabilize it in post. -No mic input, (audio from camera is not very good) -No longer works well with cell phone app, hard getting photos to phone.
Markus, thanks for understanding that not everyone has access to loads of money. I’m always buying second hand equipment to save a $1. You inspire me to settle with less expensive items.
I use my LX10 for photography for almost 3 years now and I absolutely love it! The lens is indeed very sharp, the RAW files are incredibly good for editing (with a ton of dynamic range) and the wide aperture really helps it at low light scenes. Also, it can shoot macro from 3 centimeters (or a little over 1inch) with the great background blur. :)
Just love your videos and that you offer lower cost alternatives and make fun of spec geeks, always funny!!! Keep up the fantastic content, cheers, Michael
Super valid! And the IQ on the Panny Lumix cameras is top notch. I still have one, an LX3 with close to 80k images under its belt, video not so much [he images still look great even by today's standards --as you mentioned, if your deliverable is online or handheld who's going to know... and the build quality is top-notch. I may have to buy one of these to see how far they have come along over the years. Thank you for making this!
Once again Markus did it! wohooo! for all the youngsters there! save your selves and listen to this Guy! A big thanks Markus for saving these generation! wohoooo!
I love that you keep it real and have no problems going against the flow and advise people on sensible options. Do you think that there's even a need for a pocket camera if you already have a flagship smart phone (i.e. anything equivalent to or newer than Samsung S22 Ultra, iPhone 14+ Max, Sony Xperia 1V, etc., ...)?
Focus: for vlogging, the Panasonic Image App allows you to remotely control pretty much everything including focus. Typically I run the camera in manual focus mode, and press the AF in the app screen when I need to refocus. You can always do focus fully manually too on the app, plus the focus peaking works on the app. LX10 has been my goto go anywhere camera for a few years now. I bought it mostly for indoor shots in potentially badly lit places, so the F1.4 and 1” sensor were key selling points. Two main negatives (for me) are battery drain when not used for a while, and the on switch is too easy to inadvertently catch when putting the camera away, leaving you with a drained battery.
Another great video. I have wanted an LX10 but not affordable for me, but then i found a similar camera, Canon G7XMii for great price used, works perfectly. Great companion to my interchangeable lens bodies.
The LX7 produces very artistic images, but i prefer the canon g5x MII, the superior 1" 20MP sensor allows to more cropping, and 120mm zoom @ f/2.8 does produce nice background-blur. Also much better indoor camera as signal/noise on high iso is much better on canon. Although both have flash, but the Lx7 has shoe for superior external flash. Still the images from the LX7 feel different, and are more artistic.
Saludos desde CR, tengo una RX100 VII y me encanta lo portable que es, ademas de tener otras cámaras esta me parece increíble porque es demasiado pequeña, jamas pensé que fuera tan pequeña es un éxito.
I've always wanted Panasonic to release a series of micro 4 3rds fixed focal length pocket cameras. An 8mm (16mm), 25mm (50mm), and one longer length. They would be so much easier to carry on hikes etc... Pocket primes.
I saw your videos on the zhiyun lights you did. It was straight to the point no bullshit. And I went with the colbor 60 you recommended instead. I needed a small everyday simple camera and went for this after watching this video. Here to say.. COULDNT be happier .. it has crazy macro capability, it is such a potent street photography camera for the price I think it beats the Ricoh GR 3 series in terms of still.
Thank you for all you do Markus. I appreciate your generosity. One feature of the RXI love that I do not hear talked about at all is in photography and the leaf shutter's ability to shoot 1/2000 with onboard flash. Have you tried it? it is mind-blowingly good and very very useful.
great little camera the LX10. I had it for about 2 years, then the lens mechanism broke and fixing it was too high a price, but I have to say, a real gem for travel and street photography!
I saved and shopped and, finally pulled the trigger on a Lumix. I wanted the G85 because it has a flip forward screen, mic out and it's weatherproff-ish. But, I guess I got too excited because I accidentally pulled the trigger on the G85X instead which does NONE OF THOSE THINGS. Oh well. Live and learn. I still enjoy using it but, I have to attach a big Desview monitor to the hotshoe to see myself. I love it when you talk about Lumix because I always learn how to dial it in just a bit better. I just started playing around with iDynamic and iResolution. What a difference! Appreciated.
I've got the Panasonic LX 15/10 too and have been happy with it, especially its low light performance. Works well on the Zhiyun Crane M2. It was released 7 years ago in 2016 but still holds up. Panasonic should update it with 60fps and better AF and ergonomics.

Great that you shot the video from the camera so we get the idea about the clarity. I'm looking for a pocket able camera which is cheap just replace my phone so I'm gonna search about this camera
The LX 10 is a portable cinematic beast. I have it from 2018 always mated with Zhiyun Crane M. It is 2024 I still have it. Bought recently a tiffen mist filter for it but haven't tried it yet. I do own several cameras from my photography/video journey -- CanonPowershotPro1( 2005), Canon s95 (2011), Canon 70D (2014),100D (2016), Lumix LX 10 (2018), GP6 (2018), Dji Spark (2017),Lumix ZS200 (2019), GP 11 & 12 (2023). My point is in 2024 this is still my go to guy the LX10 despite my wife showing me great Iphone results. Anyway, the next step in my journey seems to be going to the Fuji xs20. My big DSLRs have taken a back seat for a while now. I just shoot photos and videos of me and my wife's travels. Not a pro in anyway. Thank you for this video.
I've always been a Panasonic fan boy! They typically give you more for less and now since they've finally switched to phase detect focus, well they are the only brand I look at. Panasonic is the king 👑of digital cameras now in my opinion Cheers 🍻
@@MarkusPix: Yeah, something like this little LX10 would be perfect for that everyday all around pocket cam. It just needs good stabilization and phase detect. The 1.4f aperture is only available at the 24mm (equivalent) focal length. All the Lumix 1" sensor cameras have Leica designed lenses, that's why they are so sharp. Sometimes too sharp. I have an LX10 and a ZS100 as a travelling pair.
Hey.. I am confused between lx10 and zs100.. i m more of a photography person than videos.. which wud be a better choice between the 2.. the thing pulling me towards the zs100 is the zoom range.. but lx10 has a tilt screen..which one wud u recommend
@@maheshkamath3678 I have the ZS220 from 2019 and the LX 10 from 2018. One is portable cinematic beast and the other is superzoom one camera rule them all for travel photography. The Zs220 though is still no match for mySLR (70D and 100D) if you want effortless bokeh shots. Of course, the DSLRs have taken a back seat in recent years for me as they are huge and Im being practical during vacations.
what power issues? I recently went to Hokkaido Japan and I failed to take care of it and just put it on my hand carry trolley. Afterwards, the lens retraction smoothness problem occurs now. I have no power issues so far though I have 3 batteries from 2018.
Marcus, here is an idea for one of your videos, how about examining the new A.I. programs that enhance both video and still photography. I have seen video taken back in the late 80's turned into something that looks great. I have photos that I have do the same with. They were out of focus (too soft) and the program nicely cleaned them up.
Appreciate your "brain fresh" sharing again, may I ask about what brand of.ND filter you are using or could you share your video link if you already shared it previously? Lot of funny and learning when watching your sharing each time,.thank you very much again!
Have you ever tried the Samsung exf2? Just curious on your thoughts. Shoots at 1080p and has a lowest aperture of 1.4. I have one but haven’t shot much video yet. Has OIS as well. Very hard to find though.
Samsung made GREAT cameras, shame they stopped. The EXF2 is only 12MP compared to the 20MP of the LX10, weighs almost the same and its actually a bit bigger than the LX10! And yeah it doesn't do 4K. But I never had one.
"unlike some other cameras that claim that they're pocket cameras"... Yes, I always was so bummed with the direction that Blackmagic took with the "Pocket" line. I really wish they kept with the pocket theme and made high quality, small sensor cameras. That would be so fun!
Nice alternative or option for low light! Wondering if you have ever used the Sony Hx99…sadly, not a one inch sensor (1/2.3) with a 720mm zoom in a pocket camera. Not something you would likely use though, but kinda cool.
Is anyone using the Facial Lock for the AF area and there is a setting in the menu to save the picture of your face so when you do video it automatically locks onto your face. Works for me everytime.
Would love to hear your thoughts on the best video camera with a large zoom with good stabilization and 4k. My vlogging setup only goes to 70mm (and can push that further with clear image zoom) but that’s still not close enough to capture some of the shows I film at theme parks and stuff. What’s your recommendation?

how better compared with lx100? prices are similar and aperture not so different
Love my LX10. Unfortunately, it is having power issues now I wish they would come out with some newer versions.
what power issues? I recently went to Hokkaido Japan and I failed to take care of it and just put it on my hand carry trolley. Afterwards, the lens retraction smoothness problem occurs now. I have no power issues so far though I have 3 batteries from 2018.
Can you compare some cameras with DJI Pocket 3 ??? Thnks
Marcus, here is an idea for one of your videos, how about examining the new A.I. programs that enhance both video and still photography. I have seen video taken back in the late 80's turned into something that looks great. I have photos that I have do the same with. They were out of focus (too soft) and the program nicely cleaned them up.
😊Excellent suggestion for my newest eye candy Markus !!!
Good reason to come out to the desert for sure! Nice alternative 🤨🧐🤔
I was so confused that I couldnt find the camera around here... it is called LX15 here for some reason. Why is that ?
Thats the Euro version of the LX10. Same camera.
@@MarkusPix i figured that, and apperently many cameras share different names. Strange 😁
Yes just like how some people Americans want to see put in jail would be considered heros in France 😅
Your microphone just sounds great
Markus, what is the best portable lighting that you recommend to go with a camera like this?
But I never had one.
what is the best camera for 500 or less for taking good clear sharp sunset and nature pictures
One of these but used
@@MarkusPix Thanks Markus
Thanks for an
Alternative Choice🎬
Isnt an used RX100v better at that price?
Would love to hear your thoughts on the best video camera with a large zoom with good stabilization and 4k. My vlogging setup only goes to 70mm (and can push that further with clear image zoom) but that’s still not close enough to capture some of the shows I film at theme parks and stuff. What’s your recommendation?

wouldn't the ZV1 be a good cheap alternative to the RX100 VII?
Its not the same quality, I gave mine away in the Christmas giveaway. I guess they didnt want it to be the same quality as the RX.
Thanks, I love this video
How is it compared with sony zv 1 series?
No comparison. The ZV is just a stripped down vlog camera. The RX has a viewfinder, much sharper, much longer zoom, 960 fps etc etc ua-cam.com/video/yXKK2DWTPmw/v-deo.html
and ua-cam.com/video/0_5lQpXmyLg/v-deo.html

@MarkusPix Ahh, i see. Thank you for the explanation!
Thank you

I have one. the only downside of this camera is the flip mechanic are so weak, after few month it cant no longer hold the LCD at selfie angle...
I've never had that problem. You must be rough on the ladies 😉
Where's the love for the ZS100?!
Thats a nice camera but the screen doesnt flip up so you can't see yourself and the lens is f2.8 - 5.6, not the juicy 1.4
@@MarkusPix Touché!
Markus can say anything and I'll just believe whatever he says 😊
What about canon G5x mark2
I got an LX10 earlier this year and have used it to make several videos.
I enjoyed this review Marcus, but the lack of a mike jack is a deal-killer for me. I mostly film in the kitchen -- food, food prep and upper torso conversation shots. Am I stuck with the Sony?
You don't need a pocket camera for kitchen videos. There are many many camera options out there.
How long can you record with it before it over heats?
ua-cam.com/video/f4bdYSoSx5k/v-deo.html
You mentioned you record audio separately. Have you done a video on how to do that? Doing research for purchasing low cost, easy video/audio recording for live music.

@@MarkusPixwhat do you feel about 32 bit float recorder?
handy for people who can't set levels@@murlidhr
I went for the gx800. larger m4/3 sensor and the ability to use the lenses of my other lumix g cameras. but the lx10 is great, although I must say that without needing a flip screen there is also a nice alternative, the lx100II
Will the ND filter fit on the Sony RX100-7 ?
no
how is background so nice, dreamy, and fantastical?
Thanks Markus! Can you get that bokeh with the Sony RX100vii too at 2.8 or the Pocket 3?
Markus is the best thing to happen to Panasonic since the portable 8Track player.
