Seeing it search for focus while filming kinda put me off getting the LX10. Wonder if in the menu there is quick focus and also Eye focus like in the Panasonic G7 as I find that to improve the focus when vlogging.
Thank you for covering the video side of these cameras so comprehensively. So many camera channels focus on only the stills side, and the way cameras are designed these days, being able to do both is a big selling point. One day, a Compact System Camera will have a hot shoe and mic input and I'll be buying it.
God I love your channel! Another great video!
Fantastic review. You do an amazing job. Nice and detailed. Have had my eye on this camera and the g9x. Keep up the good work.
Just recieved this camera yesterday. It will be my vlogging camera. I love it. It is really a great camera. Can't wait to test
Kaysha if you haven't tested it yet how can you say you love it and that it's great?
Calvin Chann I played just a bit with when I posted this comment it and it's not so different from my other panas. I didn't test it but still shit a few videos and photos. After a week of vlogging now I can say I tested.
I have to say that compared to the gf7, it is really a great compact, but the low light quality was better on the bigger sensor which is normal. But all in all, it is a great compact.
Thanks for the review!!! It helped me with my decision. I'm looking for a small camera for video in hunting situations and have been kicking around the idea for a long time. Obviously the audio is a bummer, but I do have an H1 I can carry in the field with a lapel mic for commentary type stuff and just suffer through the bad audio or try music overlay when using something like this. Anyway, thanks again and God bless ya.
I just wanted to say, that your channel is my favorite among the plethora of photography creators on YT. Your reviews are thoughtful, engaging, and to the point. Your production values are excellent, and it’s obvious that you take great care in the post-production of all your postings. Bravo all around!
Like Always, You are Such a Great Photogrphy Reviewer, Thanks Amigo !!!
I like so much how you explain about the cameras. you do it so much better than others. thank you. keep the great work going.
Watched a lot of reviews on either camera before finding this one and I thank you. This was amazingly informative. Bravo good sir.
Just bought a G7 and love your channel! Are you just talking off some points, it's very engaging, I love it.
JohnyTechReview me too
Almost considering getting a lav mic for my phone for vlogs, instead of using the Canon G7X due to the terrible audio.
That's a decent review, thank you so much!!
I have a question; do you recommend it in December 2020? If not, what are the alternatives?
Thanks the balanced honest informative review.
New to your channel, but great content so far :D
Hi, this is the first video I've watched of yours and it is excellent! I love the way you produce them and the info you supply is exactly what people need to know, THANK YOU. The only downside is I wish I'd have found you sooner.
This is a fantastic review. Tiny short reviews are a let down some times when I'm looking for in-depth info on my level of understanding. Well done. I'm a sony guy but the LX-10 is intriguing to me.
Again, great review.
Great review. Did you ever do the more complete review on this camera? I looked for it but couldn't find another review on the camera.
Thank You... great video!
I really like your explanation and the sound of your voice as compare to other experts. I don't get confused and annoyed. Thanks!
Hey Ted, Nice video. I looked through the comments but didn't see it mentioned - what bracket/support are you using to hold both the camera and the external audio? Is is commercially available?
Interested to know if the lens has distortion at the wider focal lengths? Also does it have the sequence composition feature?
rx100m4 and lx10...which one should i buy? in terms of color, auto focus and image stabilizer
Excellent review!
Great video Ted, can't wait for the full review! Would be awesome if you made a video talking about 4K video recording and if it's worth it to shoot 4K compared to 1080p at the moment, considering all of the disadvantages of recording in 4K such as the file sizes and editing/rendering speeds. I haven't found any good videos on this subject so that would definitely be a video for you to consider making!
How would compare the focus performance of the Panasonic vs the sony v?
I'm a new subscriber, I like how u review the camera! :))))))
Very useful information.
Yes mate!! Darth Naga returns!! Great to see you!!
First of all, a very nice review. Love your channel, keep the good works up. Do you have an idea if this camera is compatible with a UHS-II sd card? If so is it then capable of emptying its buffer faster? (
SANDISK EXTREME PRO SD UHS-II CARD)
For stills and video how do you find the Lumix not having phase detection vs the Sony for autofocusing?
I really wish to see a 1 inch pocket camera of this LX10 or RX100 size, with mic input, hotshoe, adequate video continuous AF, and flip/swivel screen. Seems like many people are asking for this kind of camera since many years ago but none of those camera makers have build such thing yet (the closest one to this spec is Nikon P7800, but it's not a 1 inch sensor).
Thanks for the review of the LX10 Ted! :)
Your prayer answered, RX100 mark vii
@@yoginwidhi6676 and the new Sony ZV1 is even closer to that. Thanks for letting me know mate :)
I Need a Compact Camera for filming skiing, basically a substitute for when I’m too far away to film with my gopro. Would you recommend this camera? Or are there better choices?
Hi Ted, if you could only have one compact camera which would you choose?
Nice review Ted. What mounting rail is on your BeFree tripod? I like how it can mount things from above and below the rail (Rode on top - Zoom H1 on bottom...👍🏼).
which camera u think can shot wedding video sir? Sony, Panasonic or the g7? hope you can help
can you compare this camera to lumix lx100? i fell in love with that camera, but it doesn't have a flip screen, so I'm maybe thinking about buying this one instead. Is the video quality the same? and the lense?
Wow! Just bought the LX10 and while you flew riiigghht over my head, you explanation very was clear. Thanks! I have a Canon SX700HS and the barrel is stuck, so this Pana is working currently, albeit at a much higher cost. Wish me luck and many thanks!
Does this have a Multiple Exposure function? Thanks
Great review. I have seen a lot of review lately on the LX10, I think most of what is on youtube and I still have mixed feelings getting this camera. The focus I can live with using touch. But the image quality I see sometimes overexposed in direct sunlight and sometimes smudgy images lacking dynamic range and not very sharp. The video footages from 8.30 seems quite good actually. Anywhere else I you coud suggest more like these?
great review , 👏
I love your reviews man... seriously awesome. One question, if you had the money right now and had two buy either the lx10 or canon g5x, which would it be?
Very Good Review Video.
Hi! Thank You for useful video...My main task 4K....I had the opportunity to see LX15/10 in my the hands... It has stabilizer (in menu) to compensate vertical and horizontal shake... IS THIS IS a 5-Axis ??? And tell me please, after croping, in 4K video what actual sensor size??? LX10 or GH85 ,for 4k video??? Thanks in advance.
i can see with the recent videos use casie's style but i like it! it make the channel more up beat and enjoyable to watch
can you do a comparison video between the rx 100 v and this camera in low light? especially for the f1.4 aperture
Hi Ted, You have already a more extended video about your findings around the LX10? As it seems I can't find it... If not, do you still think it is a great compact camera?
Hi, thanks for the review. Do you know how to force flash on the LX10? I'm not in Silent Mode nor am I using the electronic shutter, so I should be able to adjust the flash. But the flash option is greyed out in the menu. Maybe I'm not looking in the right place to adjust the flash? Can you help?
Greetings, I congratulate you on your channel, I was wondering in the back you have a shelf with cameras and lights is to avoid the humidity and fungus ???
Can you please do a FULL review on the Lumi vs. Rx100 V
Thanks for this great review, very good job. Can you test the IS in 1080p to see if it's better than the Canon that you say is the best. Did you put the face detection on the LX10? Cause it's lose focus...
Thanks and I waiting for the end of this review.
thx for sharing waiting to see your second part. I am thinking to get this or g85 for video. Have a nice one
The G85 is great for video!
That Panasonic was hunting for focus a little more than it should
I thought so too
yummdiddy yep, I noticed that as well
yummdiddy more than it should? You do realize no video shooter ever should be in autofocus? It wasn't till recently with the duel pixel af that autofocus actually became a usable thing
The 5 dollar film maker everything you just wrote was hogwash
yummdiddy not sure what your talking about kiddo but ok there are very few occasions you should be using auto focus for video
So, is there a recent compact camera that does have audio input I/O?
First review that actually gave me great information. Noticed some issues with focus on the LX10. Can you tell us about that? Also, can you let us know what you think of it in regards to overall fun factor? Is it more fun to use than the Sony? I am leaning towards Sony, because of the extra features. I prefer APS-C, but am compromising for the smaller sized camera. I've used Sony A6000 and several NEX series, but switched to Fuji X series cameras for my stills, b ut want a pocket camera for quick stills and videos.
Thanks for the quick review! Cant wait for the comparison! Today I found a place which offers $60 off for V. I really want to pull the trigger. Now i see this. Just hold off for a day or two! Once again, thanks for the review!
Just ordered LX10. Looking forward to your follow up on this camera!
I was waiting this review so very much, I need to make the decision if I need the RX100V or this LX10K, I still have some doubts and both have great features, I really love the idea to have 4k without the overheat, but I'd love to see more in-depth review prior to purchase one of these.
I want to know if this LX10k is capable of auto focus as good as the RX100V in low light rooms, I know it will be slower, but at least for me auto focus on video is a deal breaker, So I'm really looking forward to see the In-dept review.
Cheers, from El Salvador, Central America. Your channel is great !!
what camera are you recording the video with?
Hello Ted. I'm wondering if you didn't use/activate any sort of face-detection AF feature during the 4K selfie video-recording portion with the LX10...? There was a lot of focus hunting after a while, so maybe in practical terms, this would be just a matter of using such feature (if available) even registering your face like some cameras can do. Thanks for the feedback!
My monitor is only 1080p, so I assume it down-samples any 4k to 1080p inside the browser. When I switch UA-cam to 4k it all looks the same. Does video shot at 4k look any better when viewed at 1080p than video shot at 1080p?
It seems like it was having focusing issues on your face.
I wonder how it compares to a Canon G7X. It is the same price.
Greetings and nice comparison, sir! As a Fujifilm X-T3 landscape and product photographer, I am extremely pleased with the image quality I get from this camera, combined with the stellar, sharp Fujinon XF optics. However, I am researching a small, light "travel camera", as I don't want to expose my X-T3 system to the vagaries of landscape photography in a beach/ocean setting. For that very limited, occasional use, I was considering such cameras as the Sony a6000, Canon G7 Mark III, Canon G5x, Panasonic Lumix LX100 II, or Sony RX100 III. My MAIN criteria are image SHARPNESS and detail retention, and ability to retain such detail when possibly printed to 20x24". Plus, I'd like to keep total budget to around $700-900. And, FYI, I'm a 100% stills guy, so I don't shoot video. Based on this, which system would you recommend for maximum sharpness/compact form factor? Thank you!
Hi Ted, Thank you for this great introduction to the LX10. I'm trying to decide between getting the Sony RX100 V or the LX10. You mention the "Sony micro jitters" at 8:54 on the RX100 V in this video, and I just wondered if you could expand on that topic a bit.
Is this something that you notice every time you shoot video on the RX100 V? Or is this something that only occurs when you are changing the zoom setting, or is it something that occurs every time you hand hold the camera when shooting video on it?
I really want to get the most stable video footage that I can when traveling and I may not have a tripod with me at the time, so having the "Sony micro jitters" on the RX100 V would be a deal breaker for me, which would send me over towards purchasing the LX10. Just adding this: But as Martin Geldart says in an earlier post this LX10 seems to hunt for focus a bit, for example at 5:40. So I would see that as a negative point for the LX10. Thanks very much, Chris.
Lots of comments on here complaining about the focus hunting this camera (which I own) does, and to some extent, it does. Having said that, I recently returned a G7X II that, at least to my eye, seemed to be constantly hunting for focus also--a common attribute of large sensor compacts? For the money, this is an awesome little camera--doesn't do everything perfectly, but does a lot of things well. Macro and low light are amazing...and if bokeh is your thing...this is your baby.
Good review
do you have a recommended battery third party
Hey Ted! Great review. I am just looking for something that is better than my smart phone. Should I get the Panasonic Linux lx10 or the fujifilm x70. I am very into the fujifilm colors. The Panasonic is also really great.
do you still shoot those episodes on your sony a5100?
what is best current compact-ish (will settle for a bit larger- especially if sensor is better) right now in your opinion? I don't really understand sensor sizes as pertaining to image quality- I just want good clean sharp photos with a goodly amount of detail- we have some small compact that takes pretty mushy looking photos- would like something about 1/2 way to 3/4 way between the compact and say a canon 7d (although the 7d gets pretty mushy too at anything over say 800 iso- I know i can expect miracles from compacts- but need a good cheap compact-ish camera that has best image quality
what you recommend between the Lx100 and GX5?
Do you think the 4/3 compact sensor compact is dead?
Canon had the 1.5" sensor compact and Panasonic had the 4/3 ones.
But the newer ones have 20mp 1" sensor. Please forgive any inaccuracies or misunderstandings. I am a noob LOL
I'd like great low light performance
Looks like a handy tool to have on you when you don't want to carry a larger camera. Would the angle of view be the equivalency and not the focal length though?
Your expertise quickly becomes apparent.I have the LX15 andmoslt enjoy it. After moving form Sony 200D sell off all kit to a small pocket camera, gradually getting use to lack of viewfinder.More on the audio options may be helpful. Only thing I can think of is say a tascam and try to sync.Thank you. Fred
What's the effective sensor size at 4K? I wish Sony/Pan would make a 4.5k 4:3 full sensor readout video file. This would allow for cropping and finishing in 4K and even panning in 1080p and 2.5k
What's camera you take this video? ,thank you
Would this come close to a Fuji x100f in terms of image quality for photos?
I really don't see (right now) a better option than the Panasonic Lumix G7 for video on a budget. For 500 $ you get the camera with a kit lens. It offers very good quality 4k video, micro 4/3 sensor wich is also pretty good for still images, good autofocus, and the possibility of interchangeable lenses that gives you the possibility of having the body with 2 o 3 lenses in a very small package. Yes, it is not as compact as any of the cameras you are showing in this video, but it is still a very compact and lightweight package, that feats perfectly fine in a very small camera bag. You should make a video review of the G7 so you can also try it out at the same time 😉
I did - link is in the description… ;-)
The Art of Photography Gosh, I forgot to check your videos before I posted my comment, thank you for your answer, and forget the last part of the comment 😁
The G7 is a lot bigger. It's not going to go in any pockets or squeeze into small bags.
Totally
I bought the Panasonic lx15 last week and tried it out this week. Sadly it produced a purple point in the middle when I shoot landscape picutres with a higher arperture 5-11... its my first real camera so i had to look up online what it is and to my surprise it seems to be lens flare... i might have shoot the pictures against the sun, but it was a rainy and cloudy day so there was no direct sun only bright clouds. Is that normal ?
Anyone out there what would you recommend for underwater video and photo shooter. With a nauticam housing or similar. The lx10 or the Sony rx100 V ? The overheating on the Sony is a let down. But the autofocus on that camera seems better than on this one. How is stabilization on the lx10? Will the crop factor on 4K will be an issue? I’ll be freediving 90% of the time. I want to upgrade from using a go pro to a compact camera with a nice housing. Any recommendations will be nice to hear
Should I buy this or the canon g7x ii? I'm a vlogger, who vlogs on a dslr and I want something smaller for times I can't take my big camera... which one? Please answer!!!!!!!
Is it dust and weather resistant at all? My biggest complaint with my Sony HX90V is dust just pours into it. Dust on the sensor, dust inside the lens, and even under the glass on the LCD screen.
I think I'm going for this over others, on price:features
Own it for 5 years. Won photo contests with it. Absolutely irreplaceable. And now after 5 years of use it's crippled. Touch screen went out after 2 years, along with screen in flipped position. But the worst is that so much dirt and linen got inside the lens or over the sensor that it's showing up whenever I close down on aperture... it's impossible to get clean pictures with f5.6 or f8 now...
Yes it is a panasonic illness unfortunately
My lx100 had the same problem
My zs200 has no dirt on its sensor til now 🙏🏻
Thank you.
In the market for a camera.
I would like to start a UA-cam page by a senior for seniors but my budget is small.
It's nice to see & watch videos of someone who isn't bad-mouthing a budget camera.
I currently own a Sony 90v.
Sound is less than ok.
Videos & pics are very good.
Like the idea of adding the mic.
rode mics are good. I think you can get one for about $100.
what do you think of peak design bags?
Thank you
Why do you use Final Cut to edit your videos?
What camera did he use for this video?
I use the lumix lx 7 for my videos and I am very happy. I have it since 4 years and it does a great job. I was working with Canon before but for video, I think Panasonic is now better. I think The new lx10/lx15 is not good as the lx7. For the image stabilisation, the lens (24-90 in lx7), the nd filter (lose in the lx10), and the lx10 crops in video where the lx7 don't. Thanks for this great review
I read some comment about the sony oveheating issues in recording i might buy this panasonic. Im still doing some research for good compact camera. Thanks for the reviews FORT WORTH REPRESENTS. 👍
Please, I need to know if its better to an enthusiast photographer, the LX10 or to buy the ZS100, both price is equal. I don't have the money for the Sony RX100, but I want to know, wich of those cameras take better pictures? o wich of those cameras have more to offerme for the price?
Always like how mr ted here explains bout something
Is there a follow up video to this?
Thank You
I noticed there ws frequent focus hunting when the LX 10 videoed section. is it due to setting? it certainly did not lock on. Thanks
Unfortunately, it is normal when continuous AF is set for video. It is weird because older Panasonic cameras with DFD did not hunt so much.
What is best for stills if video isn't as important to me
Anyone know how to obtain the shutter count on the LX10?
I'm trying to use my Lumix DMC-LX10 as a webcam but it isn't picking up the live video after connecting via mini HDMI -> HDMI -> Elegato Capture Card -> USB. All drivers up to date and tested on both Catalina OS and Windows 10.
I tested all parts and everything is working when I plug in my nintendo switch/ps4 so the cables and capture card are working.
When I click playback to view the pictures, the images will display on the screen on both OBS and Zoom when I select 'USB Camera'. It switches to a black screen when I change it back to the live Camera Mode. I also made sure it is in USB Mode for PC and still nothing. I find it odd that it will display the images and videos on playback, but I can't figure out how to get the Live Streaming Feed to display. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
I have never been able to figure out how to tether the LX10 either.
5:40 ish whats going on there? seems to be loosing focus quite a bit
yeah it looks terrible
Him turning his head causing a shadow, therefore camera needs to quickly refocus.
Pros use manual focus
Anyone owning that camera had a trouble with the sound the camera makes? It sounds like a ventilation from the inside. Only when the lens is out. Some says the noise comes from the stabilisation or autofocus, but it sounds very noisy to be just that?
I just got that camera and I've had an hybrid one for years without any sound like that.
I might sound dumb but I'd really like to know if it is a normal thing.
x
