HE SAID IT. HE SAID SHOALS-LIKE. I can sleep, now.
Shelldon Lord of the Sands Between
Shelldenring, Lies of Sea, Crabborne.
Seakiro: Shallows die twice, Fords of the Fallen, Crab Vein.
Dark shoals
Mortal Shell
Floodborne
Gashflood divers edition.
Is it worth shelling out 30 clams?
I don't know anything about clams, but I can tell you with absolute certainty that this game is definitely worth 30 sand dollars!
it has great regional price, cost 14$ here on steam
They switched to the trash standard
its also on gamepass for like $12 a month
Instand gaming 12€.
Definitely worth it.
A true successor to Dark Souls, as evidenced by the classic bit of sage wisdom:
Time for crab
Just an FYI you can reset your level while you are in the moon shell leveling up, next to the confirm button on the left is a little reset button, hope this helps anyone :)
oh yeah you will also need shark eggs to be able to reset your level!
Thank you! I was wondering what shark eggs did. I thought maybe it was just a gross shell haha
love how witty and practical the idea of how the shell plays much more of a pivotal role in game, where it serve as the backbone for your skill and playstye. more than its real world applications.
11:14 OMFG 😂😂😂😂 I totally forgot about THAT shell in the game, first time I read that description I let out a belly worthy laugh & seeing it again still makes it happen.
For anyone confused it’s a reference to a short story turnt meme, the six worded goes ; “For sale: baby shoes, never worn”
I really like this developers work. They present their games with this cutesy facade with much darker elements and storytelling Underneath It All.
I've had a lot of fun with this game. The setting is unique and fun to explore, and it's difficult enough that this souls veteran had to walk away a few times. This is one of those games that I'm glad just exists. The devs seem to really care about putting out a genuine soulslike that's stable (I had no bugs, anyway), engaging, and fun. My sincere hope is that the colorful visuals and accessibility draw in new fans to a not always welcoming genre.
i recommend 'the last hero of nostalgaia'
I legit thought this game was going to be so stupid. I was dead wrong haha, this game is a banger.
The sands between... Perfect
Having a lot of fun with this one so far. Aggro Crab are clearly students of the genre and, like Lies of P, have really distilled the essence of FromSoft’s various formulas while putting their own spin on things. Very charming little game.
It's honestly amazing that 11 people made this game
@@YEY0806 hold up ONLY 11 PEOPLE!?! nice
a shoals-like indeed sir.
"Rage Winning" oh man I love this concept! :D
"Sands between" I wonder where that one came from 🤔🤔
The parry is so satisfying in this game. By far the best parry system of any non Fromsoft Soulslike. I destroyed every Boss after unlocking it.
We need more games that let us play as animals, like we had back in the PS1 days with A Dog’s Life.
They must be a lot more difficult to animate as a player, but they’re so distinct stand out in a competitive market.
I mean... Stray didn't come out that long ago, lol. There's also games like Man eater and Ancestors that came out a lil while back.
There was tokyo jungle on ps3
youll like deaths door, its a great game
10:37 "which we all know is nice" Nice dude
You only have one weapon but you can use the fork as a hammer if you unlock it in the snail domein. And you can do it pretty early. And its a stronger version of the weapon.
I always appreciate your steam deck sections ty
I'm more interested in this now than I was previously. It seems to have more depth to it than I initially thought. I'll Wishlist it on Steam.
Thanks for the video. That's nice that they paired the gun with the shell mechanic. Here's hoping it's successful enough to spawn a sequel that will expand on this title. Onward to 400k. All glory to the algorithm.
I was very exited for your review of this.
17:06 if your looking to party more effectively, I’ve found that attack at the moment of contact does the job pretty well. When you attack from hiding in your shell it counts as coming out of it and parries an attack with the right timing. It does mess up the follow up attacks at points, but it is a way to parry with relative ease.
Always appreciate ur videos for having a steam deck section. Game looks great! 🙌
Awesome Vid!
Thank You very much for Your Work! Greetings from Germany
6:52 Hey Mort - love your videos! You can reset the stats by using a shark egg when you click the little recycle icon.
This game looks really fun. Thanks for the review. I don’t think I’ve seen anyone else mention it.
Gameranx mentioned it a few months ago. That's how I heard about it.
Since I never liked how most of souls-likes do parrying, I actually loved parrying in ACT more. I am pretty sure most people have your experience with it being weird to do it on release which is not what most do. In my head, I always thought of parrying as risking yourself to getting hit to nullify something, so letting go of my guard to swing my shield out (leaving me open to getting hit) to counter someone matched up with my thought process more.
great review, thanks for the great content
I'd really love to see you go over the achievement list in these 100% reviews. Even just a brief little thing about missables, how many playthroughs, what you think of the list. 👍 👍
Subbed great review well put together fella cheers 👍.
Thanks for covering this one, I've been excited for its release ever since I saw iron pineapple check it out!
Wow you really knocked this one clean out
Already cmon man, good job 👏
This looks fantastic! I wish more games went with the colorful, light-hearted aesthetic.
Here is a tip for parrying; instead of releasing your block, just press the attack button while blocking, it is much easier to time (maybe dodge as well, but not completely sure about that)
This looks like so much fun!
you can reset your stats with a shark egg by clicking the recycling icon in the level up menu
hey thanks for review. i had my eyes on this cause i love the underwater setting and am generally interested in souls like games. however i always end up quitting them after like 3 hrs cause i cant procede. hearing this is optionally less hardcore made me buy it outright just now to support stuff like that. looking forward to playing.
RIP Hermy, my hermit crab that I accidentally drowned. In all seriousness, this was a hilarious and punny vid lol
"Shoals-like" I dig it.
Thanks for this review. I've been considering picking this game up. You know, just for the halibut.
A shells-like! Honestly this is a great start to soulsborne adventures with how accessible it is
Very similar to Kenna Bridge of spirits in that way.
@@TheHeartThatRunsCold I liked that game! If it got a sequel I’d be down
@Moristmal can you please include the steam link (or whatever shop you purchased/were gifted the game at) in your YT description as part of your standard template?
A really cool Crab-Souls game!
Great review as always. I'm gonna wait a little because of the bugs
I really like the concept of this game, great adaptation of a souls like
cool to see this game in the gamepass, gonna try this
Jumped in on Game Pass last night. It's great!
I started playing it after your first look and I'm loving it so far. It's the first Souls-like I really play because, on top of the humor and the subject matter being close to my heart, the fact that the accessibility options are /there/ makes me feel like the game isn't going to be unfairly hard.
I feel like you are hinting at the souls like games or what do you mean in particular? Because if you do, I would disagree there. Not a single Souls-Game (At least from FromSoft) is "unfair". Sry but it simply isn't, and I am saying this as someone who struggled A LOT during all of those but still somehow managed to complete all of them....
It's interesting that people adress modern Soulsgames as "hard", although there are many older games that are actually unfair by design because they were so short that they HAD to implement sth. to keep the playing playing for a longer time than the game's actual length (look at the arcade games for instance).
No Souls Game is "unfair" , but they are all admittedly demanding the player to engage and be patient. Mistakes and trying over and over and over again is kind of the point.
@@richardfreutel5002 but see that's the thing, it doesn't matter if Dark Souls and the other From Software games are actually fair or not. The impression I got from them, from the community and the reviews, is that they are games where you bang your head against a wall, until you or the wall breaks. And as such I've never wanted to touch them, even though the world looks really cool.
This game has a button that makes the wall crumble, or go away entirely.
10:36 "Which we of course know is nice." Did not expect that joke coming from Mort.
Well I have a feeling that this game will be nomited for the games for impact category at the game awards.
I don't know how you find the time!
For some people the day has 24 hours.
@@MuusTri sleep when you're ☠️
@-Monad- Well I guess Mortim sleeps once he has released a video and brought his son to bed. XD
'Which we all know is nice." Perfect!
Sounds like a cool little game I'll definitely be playing it when I jump back on gamepass after I finish playing weird west on ps5
I'm really happy to hear it's good.
Honestly short is a good thing to me. I play so many RPGs it takes me months to finish the long ones.
I ended up dropping Elden Ring due to all the time it takes & getting burned out by the IMO boring open world design.
I much prefer the Souls games with level design.
Granted, “A watery grave” makes more sense, but I would have shot chocolate milk out my nose if the death message was “You Tide”
That would be a simple enough thing to mod into the game.
Did you try with controller at all? I found parrying pretty easy to learn with a controller
Why does the credit song for this game go super hard though?
"Lower Crust" has got to be a Lower Kurast reference 😀
I was wondering when this would become a Serious Gaming™ channel :)
I just have one question: is there a mortal shell? 👀
I'm loving it on Game Pass. I really want to get it for Steam Deck if it runs well.
"a shoals-like" don't think you got that past us
Good show sir
A shoals-like.....? God...god damnit.
Cod damn it
I’d highly recommend “Ashen”, for another extremely beautiful and unique game in the Soulsbourne genre
Thanks you.
Parts of this game a surprisingly true to real life. The CEO of shellfish corp is a literal parasite, just like real life corporate people.
Game sounds fun!
It’s really fun, and the graphics are pretty surreal and nostalgic while you’re playing it. Also super hilarious as a cherry on top.
Coucou de France, super boulot mec
On dit encore "boulot"? Wouldn't most people say "job" by now?
Question honête, je sors peu.
Looks like too much fun not to pick up at some point. I'm not really into souls games, but this give me a fun entry point.
This game looks great. Im probably not gunna play it cuz i find souls likes fun to watch not play, but this is genuinely exciting. Classic 3d Platformer meets Souls-Like... amazing.
The accessibility options are great. So many people wouldnt see this game through if it wasnt for them i think. I mean i would play lies of pi and lords of the fallen if they had those, but since they dont i will never see the care they put into the level Design 😢
I’m really digging this game. I’m a big fan of souls-likes, so this is right up my alley. And there are so many little in-jokes and references to other souls-likes, SpongeBob, and everything in between. If you like the genre, and enjoy a game that doesn’t take itself too seriously, this is for you 👍🏻 👍🏻
RAGE. WINNING. I... what, how? I'm just in love with this terminology XD
P.S: The crab is Naruto-running?! Greatest game EVA XD
with the speed that you generally blitz so many games to get your 100% reviews out in a timely manner do you ever feel as though you're rushing to the point of not being able to appreciate finer details? Do you find a big difference between playing a game casually for fun and playing a game for work/review?
It's rare that I rush, and the only part of this that genuinely feels like work is actually making the videos
any news on patches?
Looks like a good game to introduce your son the genre.
Nice
I'll keep this one on the watch list, to how it gets patched and then maybe pick it up during a sale.
I dont think that the above world is "gone" i personally think that the area/ocean parts where the game takes place is just unused, i think the devs also confirmed thaf magic just straight up exists in this world
Not my type of game, but def looks/sounds like a fun time for those who enjoy this genre.
How is anyone holding 60fps on highest settings on steam deck? I have it at the lowest for both graphics options & its holding 60, but anything past that is absoltuely not a solid frame rate :/
Ive had the exact same technical problems on my Series S.. I've just finished the game lol and i immediately, tho i didnt think the game would let me, but ive killed the dude who has my shell in the end and didn't even hear him out lol..
❤
Seriously, if you do enjoy some humor in some games, do check the now older french title " Dungeon of Naheubleuk: The Amulet of Chaos" ( also still pushing for The Inquisitor, in a completely different tone/genre)
The reel question: is there a poison swamp area?
Yeah
nice
Unfortunately got a bug that bricked my save and had to refund. Might try again if it goes on a decent sale.
Great game, but it was indeed buggy. My biggest bug was that my frames dropped drastically for a short period. After returning, my camera was locked and all an enemies were non aggro
Anyone know were the gacha capsule shell is?
Right behind the moon snail shell where you go to intercept the big boat
There's one in the Roland boss fight.
this game is hype
Just finished it after 21h, had a blast, i REALLY liked the mantis bossfight when i got used to parrying. The story was also suprisingly good, expected a few chuckles and ended up with a few tears
Soulslike Psychonauts under water.
wow
The only thing I complain about is that there isnt much to do after completing the game. I wished there was a boss mode or even a harder difficulty. I mostly one shot everything at this point
Rage winning needa to become industry standard!
I love it! Like "bullet heaven" stuck for VS-likes. Let's make "rage win" a thing
Are there any enemies that says: "You(r) shell not pass!" ? :D
Or a sea turtle 🐢 that tells you "Today is my hundred and eleventeith birthday. "
@@Gravely5059 nice :D
If you are remotely interested in this setting or genre, buy it. It’s not even a question. It’s worth it.
