    That’s the best Striding Edge pov I’ve seen. It doesn’t need banter. You can tell that it required concentration and it showed the level of exposure. I’ve done it several times in my younger days, once in snow and ice with crampons and ice axe. Not sure I could do it now. My head for heights is not good. Maybe I’d do it with someone. Very good video.

    Well done chap. First time across the ridge, you did brilliantly. TIP: If the wind gets up and the rain comes in, don't be a martyr and take the bypass path below the ridge line. The rocks on top get very slippery from the wear and tear of zillions of boots. Done the ridge 7 or 8 times since I've been hill walking the past 30 years. Last did it 2 years ago on a perfect December day, not a cloud in the sky and minus 4-5 degrees. Ridge was in sunshine, so nice and dry, but everything else in the shade was frozen solid. Was more difficult coming off Swirral Edge as it was in complete shade and covered in frost and ice. Good crack though. Cheers, Ozzy.

    Top video👍🏻 I've done striding edge and swirral edge a few times, despite me occasionally suffering with vertigo Im ok with these two edges, I can't get over sharp edge though, I always bottle it. Swirral edge is challenging in winter conditions, especially the final few meters up onto the top, it's quite steep when banked out in frozen snow (crampons and ice axe needed)

    Did this Saturday just gone for the first time it was clagged out quite a bit but could still see where you was going. I'm not the best with heights but I did it , I was with 2 of me other mates so we was all looking out for each other making sure we didnt go down any dodgy bits.. what I will say is it looks FAR FAR more dramatic on camera, yer there is a few proper sketchy bits what you have to be mindful of and give respect to but apart from that it's pretty straight forward. The hardest bit I found was just before you go down the chimney on the right its a proper proper bad drop and looking down doesnt really help(at that bit) but once I got past that I was like is that it.... the scramble up is not hard! again camera makes it look more dramatic than it is. Would do this on my own now. Top video tho and nice one for doing it on your own balls of steel braaa.🤙

    • @GoodBlokeOutdoors
      @GoodBlokeOutdoors  8 місяців тому +1

      Thats it mate some bits look far more dramatic on camera, only thing that doesn’t come across as bad is how big the drops are on each side, but as far as the ridge itself goes.. plenty room up there IMO…
      Certainly less scary than what i’d been thinking all this time. Great fun though and not to be taken lightly.

    Done this 3 times the last time nearly killed me 😂 we all ran out of water before the top and and was absolutely scorching hot from start to finish 🤣
    Which way did you get to striding ? Up the steep bit or the lesser gradient past the old mine ?
    Also after striding looked a bit bad it was either the camera angle or you didn’t take the less challenging route to the top on the left ?
    Also for people wanting to do this but scared there is a path running all the way along striding edge then stick to the left as mentioned on final part after the edge and it’s a walk in the park :)

    • @peterwalker6108
      @peterwalker6108 8 місяців тому +1

      With the very best will in the world, Lord’s Rake and the West Wall Traverse / Deep Gill are not dissimilar in difficulty to Striding Edge. They barely scrape into the bottom end of Grade 1 in scrambling terms, and lots of folk would consider them not really scrambles at all. Very impressive surroundings though, obviously.
      Jack’s Rake is the top end of Grade 1. Substantially more technical and with the potential of straying onto very nasty ground higher up where the route isn’t as obvious.
      A round of Hall’s Fell and Sharp Edge on Blencathra (following the crest on both) would be better prep for the Rake.

      @@peterwalker6108 great advice Peter, thank you.. I appreciate it. It might even be worth considering me going up Jacks Rake with somebody who has experience of it. I’ve only been fell walking and hiking for around 18 months and properly around 12 months so this is all relatively new to me really.

      West of Rhyd Ddu would be the Nantlle Ridge, but that only has a very short but tasty scramble. Crib Goch is the famous and possibly best ridge walk in Snowdonia.

    Ian,
    Glad you’re ok mate.
    That ridge was a bit sketchy.
    You’re right, you have to keep your wits about ya.
    I was 90% zigging with your zag.
    A couple of times I couldn’t make up my mind from the Vid.
    I know as you said, the cam view isn’t true to life. 2D and all.
    The POV was definitely Not Boring! 👊🏻

      It can make some bits look worse than it really is but sometimes does the opposite where it doesn’t do it justice at all, especially the size of the drops off each side. Thanks for watching mate.

      If you are not bothered by heights then absolutely, just go on a dry day and when the wind isn’t up.. take your time on some of the dodgier sections.. but if you’v done any of the Y3P or N3P then you easily have the fitness to do this.
