Tarka is a 1973 Albin Vega 27 (8.2m) that I bought sight-unseen and without sailing experience on the island of St. Martin in April of 2017. I was thrust head-first into ocean sailing as I got Tarka safely south from what would become the most devastating hurricane seasons on record. We are now working our way west towards the Pacific.
I am sailing Tarka around the world in part to raise money and awareness for coral conservation by supporting the Coral Reef Alliance. You can learn more here:
www.theadventur...
or visit their website directly:
www.coral.org
If you make a donation to their website directly in Tarka's honor, please send me an e-mail copy of your receipt so I can keep track of Tarka's fundraising. You can forward to:

Additional support for Tarka’s sail for CORAL (The Coral Reef Alliance) comes from contributions by:
Soylent - Healthy provisioning for the long offshore passages
Sta Lok - Swage-less terminals for portions of Tarka’s rigging, making it an easy DIY job and allowing for easy inspection
Victron Energy - Providing monitoring solutions for Tarka's batteries, to ensure we always have enough juice to do what we need to.

Bravo pour toutes les magnifiques séquences animalières, qui font votre originalité
The underwater video was wonderful thank you for showing...
If you have to have an invasive fish species, it's nice if they taste good.
Fantastic underwater shots in this episode! Well done guys 🙌
That is some camera case! Guess that’s why your underwater shots are so beautiful 😍
Love her smile.;)
Glad Tarka made a friend!
Currently my favorite sailing UA-camr. Keep up the good, reliable, steady work.
Really enjoyed this vid! You two make a great couple.
Pro tip on the lion fish: take a pair of scissors with you when diving and trim off the fins in the water, then you can transport them safely to the boat. It's how we harvest them here in FL during culls.
What beautiful snorkeling!
Way to go! Thanks for sharing. Use strong scissors to cut Lion fish needles off from as close to the roots as possible. Enjoy :-)
When I look back at when you were solo sailing, it's amazing how far you have come with everything. Nustra has definitely had a great influence on you and really you seem to be enjoying the destinations as much as the exploring. Glad you have a buddy boat because yes I will never get over the fact Tarka is only 27 feet. I get nervous in Lake Ontario in a 27 footer. Happy trails folks.
Just loving watching the two of you have a great fun adventure together
Amazing video so glad that you share this with us.
Hi U2 ! Great vid. Coral looks good . please continue sharing your adventure !
3.56 nice shot the air bubbles
Been enjoying your videos. Always nicely done.
Wonderful thanks for sharing! 👍🙏
Another great and awesome video. Thanks for sharing.
Great Episode! Keep up the great work!
Awesome guys! Such an inspiration
Just found your videos . awesome underwater videos.like your life mission .will be trying to help you out sone.
Awesome 2nd!
You two are so cute. That's the life for me, as soon as I get my S.S. I'm out of the lower 48. I'm moving to the Bahamas.
Evastive species are the only thing you can take all year round even in national parks and on CCR. In the Caribbean especially lion fish make great curries and tacos yumm.
Shame on you for not having a sharpening stone! I will miss you guys.
you have limited space but perhapse you could carry a still for the plastic you find everywhere, i know youtube channels who use the washed up plastic as diesel fuel. i know youve thought of this, but theres no harm in sharing my findings and opinion. great work both of you
Yes! Another video! 👌
8:02 - two very happy, lucky sailors! Fair winds!!!
Beautiful footage!
Great vid 👌
Sorry to hear you have to put your dream on hold. Might I suggest either leasing Tarka or selling her with first option to buy back. You have done a great job of selling the San Blas islands so I could see someone staying in the area for the time you need. I wish I was in a position to offer you either option but am not in that position at this time. Good luck and fair winds to both of you.
Well done! Cant wait for the next episode.
I think Sailing Uma had a video of dressing Lionfish, but I can't remember which one. BTW... Thanks for the tethering tip, so far, working great! 😁
Lavagabond had a real good one too.
Love this channel. Best wishes
I'm binge watching. I hope that this guy winds up marrying this girl. She is awesome!!
I have been to the San Blas, and it is an incredible place. If I never get to see the South Pacific, it is my mind picture of what I expect parts of the South Pacific look like. Did you buy molas?
We bought a few molas for sure. People have told us that in many ways San Blas offers much of what the South Pacific does, but with the convenices of the mainland nearby.
Great Improvement on you videos since I stopped watching last year sometime
I saw Tarka for sale on a brokerage page. Are you buying up?
Nah. Tarka is big enough for us. I have to go home and tend to family matters, so it's either sell her, or store her.
She is soo refined. She is on of the few women that wears a dress. How dignified and refined. Hang on to her.
Please turn on the subtitles. I look through UA-cam translator Thank you.
We need to go through all our videos and get the subtitles correct. Hopefully we'll get to this soon!
Noustha is a sailor.
Tarka isn't fat, she's thicc
Just a lil thicc , She ain't chubby she juicy
Not fat or thick. Robust...
Tarka is not fat!!!!.......She has big bones...: )
Great video! How do you do long term meal planning? Do you have a handful of meals or staples that you rotate through?
We keep staples onboard and use whatever ingredients we find along the way to supplement. We also keep a stash of canned food for when we run out of, or can't get fresh food.
cool
What model yacht are the australians on?
Beneteau Oceanis 42
Nice. ..veid...capetin etejour courage 😍😚⛵💑🎊🎊💐🙌
any reason why you don't want to crunch excel numbers in a cube?
Tiocfaidh ar la
Lots of reasons, but it wouldn't be the end of the world, either.
Yet another great video. I creep many online listings and noticed you have her for sale, however I feel the asking price is very low for the condition and upgrades you've made. Does the location the boat is in negatively impact the price or something?
Most people aren't interested in buying a small boat in Panama, so yes, that's the main reason I have the price low. But she's ready to cross the Pacific, so that's why she's here. There's also nice cruising to do up and down the Pacific coast if someone isn't quite ready for the big leap.
how much money did you start with after buying the boat? I really want to do this and have been watching since 8k subs.
After buying the boat, I had about 60k in savings, a chunk of which went into a refit, upgrades, and resultant boatyard fees as I made my way across the Caribbean.
@@TheAdventuresofTarka Thanks! you guys are awesome!

great place. What make is Tarka, she is really nice.?
all the info on that awesome Albin Vega are in the description under the video.
Curious to see how there boat holds up in the Pacific.
It will be fine look a cruising lealea same boat 30-year couple sailing around the world basically, crossed the Pacific from Seattle to Hawaii twice and with less equipment.
Yup! And Tarka crosses the Pacific in the 80s.
Different sailors though
80’s?
This is one of my preferred vid logs... I watch about 4 or 5. I only like the authentic. Not interested in wanabe hollywood types... I like real. This is real... Don't change a thing... I'm a fan...
Scissors.
If you look closely, you can see that we had the scissors out.
I was spear fishing in dry tortugas. Killed 150 lion fish. Unfortunately I found a dead. Black tip reef shark. That some irresponsible person feed to it a lion fish. After I open the shark up.
Caribbean predators are not accustomed to lionfish stingers. Like indopacific predators are. Po please dont kill lionfish and feed them to Caribbean predators. Including eels sharks etc.
Just curious. This is the first time that I have heard of a shark or any predator dying from eating a dead lion fish. Are you sure that a lion fish was the cause of death. I would think that toxicology report would be the only way to know for sure. Lionfish have no natural predators in the Atlantic so the only way to create one is to feed the fish.
@@johnyyaussi1339 . The lion fish was feed to the shark.the lion fish had puncter wounds from a spear.. the black tip was 51 inches and. Was in good health no other forms of trauma.. the spines of the lionfish had punctured the stomach releasing venom.. the lionfish was positioned in away were all dorsal spines were lodged in the shark's lower asophcus and stomach..
Juliamarie Palero still not sure that I buy it. The spines are toxic but not poisonous. This may have been a one time thing but the ocean ecosystem cannot take these fish in the Atlantic. They need a natural predator. Humans will not be able to keep up with this.
@@johnyyaussi1339 wether you buy or not it was a fact. I did have video of the necropsy. But I lost my gopro. . The lesson is don't feed these lionfish to native species. Because Caribbean species are not adapted to eating them. Humans will never be able to train Atlantic predators to eat lionfish.
@@johnyyaussi1339 I meant to type toxic not poisonous. Typo
“But it’s been sealed” *gets botulism*
Lol she is teaching u some Dutch? Lekker?
Haha, that's about all I've mastered.
@@TheAdventuresofTarka Dutch is one of the toughest languages to learn (so i heard ) so dont be discouraged haha
this guy has some balls. i noticed some of these skinny little white guys are just crazy. cave diving with no experience, now he dont care about crocodiles.he cant be a yank, i aint going in there without a waterproof ak.
Yep, gun nuts are deep down just wimps scared of their own shadow.
i'm confused, you're from Australia, your friend is from South Africa. But both of your boats fly U.S. Flags...
He’s American not Australian. I don’t know about the other boat
We are 🇺🇸 flagged, Gilana's crew is South African, but their boat is British flagged, and Perception is Australian.
Dude! U know u need a bigger boat. There's a girl of board now. Quit giving ur money away to coral reefs. U can make a bigger contribution with a bigger boat for more camera gear for filming the reefs and raising awareness and a larger kitchen area for dispatching loin fish. We have a saying in the south "If moma ain't happy ain't nobody happy". Consider those words carefully and think about what is really important in your life.
Lol he stated his boats big enough for his needs dude its about personal priorities.
@@chiefcaptn1922 Maybe? I'm just an old man that lives alone. What do I know?
