    Tarka is a 1973 Albin Vega 27 (8.2m) that I bought sight-unseen and without sailing experience on the island of St. Martin in April of 2017. I was thrust head-first into ocean sailing as I got Tarka safely south from what would become the most devastating hurricane seasons on record. We are now working our way west towards the Pacific.
    Additional support for Tarka’s sail for CORAL (The Coral Reef Alliance) comes from contributions by:
    Soylent - Healthy provisioning for the long offshore passages
    Sta Lok - Swage-less terminals for portions of Tarka’s rigging, making it an easy DIY job and allowing for easy inspection
    Victron Energy - Providing monitoring solutions for Tarka's batteries, to ensure we always have enough juice to do what we need to.

    When I saw your latest installment come up in my feed I actually jumped my 53 year old body with sheer joy and excitement at the prospect of another 15 minutes or so with you guys. Really so very sorry to read that there will only be a couple more, and fervently hope that a Tarka II will soon be in the offing. You sir, Noustha and lovely intrepid Tarka really have lightened my days. Hoping that this message finds you all well and hale and that life is shining kindnesses upon you after your loss. Be safe, be blessed, all of you and yours.

    It's unthinkable what has happened across the world between this episode, and the last episode. I thought the silver lining here would be a lot of time to edit video, but it has frankly been mentally straining in a lot of different ways, and, as is clear by the huge gap in uploads, the editing process has been very slow.
    For those out-of-the-loop: Tarka's adventure is coming to an end, and there will be 2-3 final episodes. I will do my best with these is to have them edited and uploaded on a normal cadence (every 2 weeks), but please be patient if I'm a little behind!
    I'm excited to finish telling our story, and Tarka's story, and I hope these episodes can shine a little light into your lives during these difficult times.

    Your channel is what is driving me to go smaller, I was looking for 33-35 foot sailboat but now i will look for something much smaller and lower cost, maintenance cost also. So its now 29-31 foot range. I really wanted you to complete your sailing journey but sometimes the journey takes another path. Thank you for sharing for all these years with us all on the interntz.

    • @TheAdventuresofTarka
      @TheAdventuresofTarka  4 роки тому +11

      Things definitely simplify the smaller you go, with the trade off being that other things become more difficult/less comfortable. I think 31 is the perfect size. Tarka II will probably be in the 31-32ft range :)

      It's not just the boat. Think of it as a platform on which to support your life (how many people?) Will there be a water maker to save tankage? What about batteries, equipment, spare parts, solar to power it? Measure behind the boom for enough arch space. Water collection. Dinghy stowage, don't plan to tow it. Vberths are charming, aft berths are practical. Boat speed isn't just for racing, it's gets you places faster safer and maybe dryer. But good to keep sails, anchors and such down to a size that crew can confidently manage. A lot of 30ft architecture is not meant to be Bluewater. I would say 34-39' for 1-2 people is a good range.

    • @magzie1126
      @magzie1126 4 роки тому +4

      @@artsmith103 Go small go now!! Yes, the bigger the boat the more luxury items you can have onboard. Each to his own. Having owned boats from a Cole 19, Top Hat 25, Van De Stadt 30ft and now a compass 33 innovator. You can pretty much live off the grid now days on any size boat. I think 30 ft is a great size. So many tough blue water capable boats that can do it. Read Shrimpy by Shane Acton, he did it an an 18ft bilge keel. Absolutely crazy but that what's sets us apart, he had a dream and went for it. What ever size and budget who cares live the moment and just enjoy the ride. Fair winds and following seas guys.

      "Rear ended" and "colon" are dangerous words together in a sentence!
