    I will tell you that as someone that first wished he had never been born at 7 years old and struggled with depression all his life.. if it wasn't for music I wouldn't be here. It has given me the strength to continue on, the energy it gives me is the only thing that has kept me alive for a VERY long time.. especially in my early 20's when I lost my job, lost my cat at only 9, and sold my truck all in a short period if time. (the truck and cat were the same day) One of the most changing things for me was hearing Slipknot's Danger: Keep Away and the line that says "we too feel alone..." When you suffer from depression your mind so easily convinces you that you are literally the only person in the world dealing with it, so hearing that broke through so much crap and after I stopped crying it was such a huge relief. I absolutely love what Godsmack did and wish they'd release the full video from where they were with the kids in the stadium and hear the whole song with the kids singing and playing along with them. You should watch the making of and hear Sully's full speech. ua-cam.com/video/Lu6yNX7IaWM/v-deo.html
    And on the Godsmack kick, you NEED to watch this, Sully vs Shannon drum battle from the Changes DVD. They do it at every live show but this one was a little more scripted for the DVD. ua-cam.com/video/iJ8-r_hd5PY/v-deo.html Oh and as for Sully being great at compositions.. there's a great reason for it.. His great-uncle is a highly celebrated composer in Sicily, in their home town they still have a day to celebrate his achievements. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sully_Erna
    If you want to hear the most over the top incredible Wah pedal and tremello work, listen to Tom Morello.. he goes insane with it. (Rage Against The Machine/Audioslave/Tom Morello)
    You need to react to this trailer and the go and watch the whole movie. Dave Grohl's Sound City about the studio in Van Nuys California ua-cam.com/video/HQoOfiLz1G4/v-deo.html
    "But these go to eleven..."
    I had told you to listen to this in one of my comments too btw.

    Music saved my life. I started playing saxophone in 5th grade up until graduation. Senior year I was mentoring 7th - 10th graders. It gave me something to focus on instead of the other shit I was dealing with in school. Listening outside of school, the emotional connection, going to shows, and getting submersed into the rock/metal scene gave me the feeling I fit in somewhere. It's been a huge part of my life to this day. I have a feeling that most of us have very similar stories - music is life ❤️

    I think of Godsmack like AC/DC. They have a sound. It’s their sound. Do not expect them to deviate. Godsmack then is Godsmack now. There is something to be respected about that.

    T_T when you cry the entire video. All of my friends pick on me for my love of music. I'm not musically inclined in a instrumental or production way. I consider myself like that of an audiophile. Some people form drug addictions sadly, for me... my drug is music. I listen to every genre. I have a song for every word and every emotion. Music affects my mood, my heart beat, my mental capacity, my work ethic, my energy, my atmosphere, my motivation, my love life, my hobbies, my outlook, you name it. Music is a universal language. Set aside the lyrics, whether you know the language or not, the music at its core, can move you in ways that just ignites your soul beyond the physical realm. You don't need drugs to feel this, although drugs can enhance it so I'm told. But if music can make me high sober... I can only imagine what it would do under the influence of substances. But it's enlightening but can also be depressing when music is your friend, if it's your only friend. I work for Pepsi but in another life I want to be a DJ. I want to share awesome music I find with the world. I tried to on youtube, making my own little music video countdown but MTV fell away from that so those days are dead.

    • @amazoniam3695
      @amazoniam3695 3 роки тому +2

      Drugs don't enhance a damned thing.
      Saw lots of friends go from energetic, creative, smart, caring, great people to brain dead from drugs.
      Seriously.
      I know it sounds like some BS PSA, but it's true. DON'T DO IT.
      and if your friends pick on you for loving music...
      Ditch 'em. If they're too small-minded to understand or accept, they don't deserve your time.

    • @oldnsleepysmitty5503

      Awesome!!!...sounds like you are what Geebz calls " the pure listener"...and if you should ever decide to explore learning an instrument and or songwriting, this will help you a ton. Till then...just enjoy and let the music move you how it does..and remember..you owe NO ONE any explanation or justification of these experiences. One side note and contrary to the other reply...the listening ( and playing) experience is VERY MUCH enhanced under the "influence" of cannibis for me...but doesn't take away from the enjoyment when not. You do you....one more side note..i used to work for coca cola....uuuugh!

    • @katous
      @katous 3 роки тому +1

      Think for yourself. Learn from your experiences. Evolve to be more selfless. Love yourself to prove you love others. If you are responsible in these ways, some drugs will not only enhance music, but help better create it.... especially most of the music you already and will...love like a drug itself. ❤🙌🎶

    Not too many rock/metal bands out there going out of their way to do things with kids. One, two maybe five of the kids that got to do this will find a future in music and the greater world will have Godsmack to thank for that. If you get a chance to watch a video of a Five Finger Death Punch concert, Ivan Moody (the front man) reaches a point in the show where he invites kids up onto stage to help sing whatever song is next on the set list. Beyond that 5FDP is very active in helping my community, the veteran community. I recommend checking out the video for Wrong Side of Heaven.

    since You are new to Godsmack, The Lead Singer, Sully Erna, the man originally on the stage, is a VERY accomplised both session and live drummer. In their live show Sully and the primary drummer , Shannon Larkin, so a sing-baclk type "drum battle" in the middle of the show. Hence why so many drum kits in the auditorium. This piece is beautiful and emotional. ~R.

    Oh dude, it WAS totally bitchin'! Brought me to tears. My sister inspired me to learn to play guitar when I was 10. So I bought Mel Bay's Encyclopedia of Guitar Chords and just went for it and I taught myself. I joined the school band (7th grade) learned trumpet and french horn and sang in the school choir. That continued through 12th grade as did some garage band jamming. My senior band director was such an inspiration to me that I after taking his music theory class I decided that I wanted to be a music teacher too. That dream ultimately never materialized but I have continued to write and play for some 40 years. Music is just everything. It is the best of friends. Always supportive, never judges, and it meets you right where you are every time. My favorite T-shirt saying is true: Without music life would be off key. 🎵🎶🎤🎧🤘🎸 Love your channel, man. Keep up the great work. 🤙Allright!!🤙

  • @Trashpanda_404

    I teared up because the statements by the kids are raw and true, and I’m 47 and still feel the same. I’m not good with emotions, but when I have an experience/connection with someone for a moment, the universe can write a song that expresses that moment in time, I just channel the energy. It’s across different genres. I don’t know “music” I just have perfect pitch so I can play almost any instrument. Had a chance to get a contract, but I had a big company at 24 and chose it instead. Made the decision at that moment. I would never make $.01 off music, because it’s too important for me mentally. I’ve played on major releases, but never take credit cause I don’t want paid. It just allows me to speak when I can’t.

They could have canceled sully the lead singer had the flu but you never would have known. The end of the night a friend of mine got backstage and told sully my wife was there in spite of starting interferon treatments for hep c. He tore playlist off the back of his guitar and signed it for her ,that really helped her get through those times

    Wow. Just wow.
    I remember growing up and listening to godsmack. They were one of my favorite bands back in Jr. High and high school. My mom had their first album which I loved to rock out to.
    As I grew older, I developed a taste for heavier music, eventually dropping out of touch with godsmack in favor of stuff like Protest the Hero and Lamb of God.
    Seeing this on my feed, I thought "sure, why not. I haven't listened to these guys in ages, let's see what they've been up to."
    I was not prepared to get emotional, but here I am choking up at how beautiful that was. It's amazing to see a band I loved as a kid, and had helped me get through some tough times in my life, and see them actively reaching out and helping kids today with their music. Bravo to them, I will definitely be going and ordering some of their stuff on my next pay.
    I'm still hoping that you'll get back to Protest the Hero soon, I'd love to see your reaction to "Skies" or "Reverie".

    This is the band that got me into hard rock/metal back in 01 when I was 12. Saw the video for Awake on MTV(when it was still a music station 🤣) and bought their Self-Titled and Awake albums the next day. Those 2 albums, as well as their 3rd, "Faceless", were my crutch in my teens. The Faceless album is still one of my all time favourites till this day.
    I love how Tony(guitarist) still uses the Wah pedal till this day. You rarely hear it in hard rock/metal. Even though there isn't a solo on this song, he gained a lot of respect in the industry for keeping to the "original solo style".

  • @JoeBlythe
    @JoeBlythe 3 роки тому

    The drumming in Godsmack has always been solid and powerful. Not necessarily the most complicated, but almost always on point, and written in a way that it correlates well with what's being played and compliments the rest of the instrumentals and vocals very well. I have to mention a quick story regarding the band's percussion. I saw Godsmack live years ago, and the drummer at the time, Shannon Larkin (not sure if he is still with the band) was moving in a way unlike any drummer I'd ever seen. His head was bobbing furiously to the beat he was playing, and his arms, and whole body really, were moving around as if he was dancing on the drum kit. Whirling the sticks around like nunchucks. Then Sully (the band's vocalist) sat down on a separate drum kit at one point, and the two of them played a duel drum solo that must've lasted like 8 minutes (anyone familiar with the band's live performances might know what I'm talking about). And believe it or not, sully outclassed Shannon on the drums in every way. The guy is ultra talented. Godsmack is lucky to have an instrumental ambidextrous talent like him leading the group.

    • @randysingleton813

      Dude, Shannon is a beast and in my opinion holds back so Sully can shine. Probably by Sully’s command as it is his band. Yes Shannon is still in the band..

    I've heard this song before but never knew they involved so many students in it. So cool. I discovered the band just recently, and their earlier albums (closer to 2000) rock!

    PLEASE DO MORE GODSMACK BREAKDOWNS! My favorite band for many years. Sully, front man and lead singer, has such a wide range of vocals but he can play rhythm or lead guitar, base, and he does a drum battle vs Shannon the drummer at every live show. He plays bongo drums and keyboard as well. The greatest band since the 90s!! Also introducing hundreds of kids to real music in this video is amazing!!

    Geebz, you have to listen to "Broken Again" by Another Animal, the band are simply the members of Godsmack with another great vocalist. Powerful chorus!!!

    My dream of being a musician is more of a hobby now.. Singer. Songwriter. Guitar & piano player. So I understand not being able to purely listen to a song & watching your videos has given me a whole new exciting look at music.. So THANK YOU for Reigniting the fire & showing us some tricks of the trade.. \m/🎹🎤🎸😎

    Not sure if anyone has posted it but regarding your comment about the wah pedal and hearing two arrangements, Sully the lead singer is also a guitar player so you probably heard him over the lead wah.

    There’s an Italian kids book called “The Rainbow Goblins”. Great story, and Primus made a whole album based on it called “The Desaturating Seven”. It is astoundingly good (and underrated), particularly because,even though they are a 3-piece outfit, it sounds more like a massive orchestration. I’ve suggested the track “The Storm” to you already, but I think you should check the entire album out for yourself, soak it in, I think you will love it and maybe even find it useful for the kids. You are an impressive human. Peace, Love and loads of Respect to you!

    A friend turned me on to this about.a year ago, and I was absolutely blown away! Everything that the kids said about how music affects & influences them is exactly how I have felt since day one from my own childhood experiences.. Chicken.skin for sure. ❤️ My. Older sister is the one who recognized this gift in me from about age 6. I was the youngest one, not young anymore, but anywho I was always with my mom & she use to love to go everywhere & visit her friends and I remember going into a house to visit, and I saw a guitar and I was so fascinated by it. I couldn't stop touching & admiring hearing the sounds of the strings touching together as I strummed the guitar & after that I would ask for a "tigar" all the time. It's quite alright if you don't feel or respond to my heart talking to you I have loved this channel & community & I have listened to you & appreciated your comments, I have donated to help Geebz with his channel, out of genuine love for his engaging spirit & extraordinary love for music ❤️ But you people seem to be so self centered, only concerned with what you want! Lighten up people a little bit. It's not all about you ok. I have requested songs for Geebzs to react to months and months ago, and I haven't had the pleasure of experiencing that yet, but I don't b**** about it. I just take it all in stride, knowing that Gibi is really busy, and trying his best to accommodate everyone. If you don't like this post, well this is from the only place I know it to come from & that is my heart. Well wtf ever. Later maybe......

    I was lucky enough to catch Godsmack on one of the smaller stages at a European festival in '01 and I've got to say Sully Erna is one of my favorite front men of any band. He seems like the kind of person who'd be just as happy performing in front of fifty people as in front of fifty thousand.
