    Another free wall art would be to hang unexpected things you already own. For me i found an old coin my grandfather brought back from Europe. It had been sitting in a drawer for years but i never wanted to part with it so i framed it and hung it on my gallery wall (found an old tiny frame from goodwill). Did the same with a pretty old brooch i had. Didnt want to part eith it so it found a new home as a sentimental and unexpected art piece.

    You might appreciate this! I’ve been wanting to paint the arch that separates our little dine-in nook from the rest of our kitchen basically since we moved into our place 3 summers ago - I already have all of the supplies needed to do it but I’ve just been putting it off for whatever reason…until today! Felt motivated at your suggestion, so I finally took an hour this afternoon to do the darn thing and I’m so glad I did! Thanks! Lol

      My doors are covered in a kind of plastic, and i have so many, i am not going to paint them. I clean them thoroughly once a year and little spots when it is needed. When it is damaged, i used tipe ex. The damages are small. It would not work when they are big i think.

    Oh my gosh! I painted my interior doirs last week. I was tired of seeing the fingerprints on them. Painted them a gorgeous warm green color. Frames too. I could not believe how much i loved it! There's actually paint that's specifically for doors and trim. It's not supposed to chip.

    While I was house sitting for my mom last week my sister came over and decided to deep clean her bathroom and the door to the garage (idk why).
    This week my mom called us up “Did someone clean the door??” She was very confused but said it looks amazing now 😂 So yeah, the little things really can help.

    Don't paint brick. It seals in the moisture which will cause it to deteriorate.
    You can use lime wash, German schmeer, or stain made for brick. Talk to a mason first.

    I wish we could do half of this stuff to our rentals in Australia! Blows my mind how much you are allowed to do over there. We can’t even hang a picture or put a plant in the ground without getting approval which takes weeks every time 😂

    • @livingwithlk
      @livingwithlk  Місяць тому +1

      is this some kind of law?

    • @oh-wild
      @oh-wild Місяць тому +1

      @livingwithlk it is part of our rental rules in Australia, basically you can remove weeds and some will allow sticky hooks without permission but any minor alterations (screws, new plants, etc) require approval which is done in writing to your landlord. Then inspections are done every 3 months and obviously if they came in and new pictures were up or you had used say the sticky tiles on your kitchen then you would likely fail the inspection etc. renting in Australia definitely is tough but sometimes you might get a reaaaaally good landlord that would approve most things but unlikely to allow changes to paint or flooring etc.

    • @livingwithlk
      @livingwithlk  Місяць тому +1

      @mirandadeerose I can’t believe that’s the law. That’s wild. We have a lot of renters rights in California. We don’t have to approve inspections or visits from a landlord unless it’s extenuating circumstances, which it never is… Even if my lease says no nails in the wall or paint, our rights say that as long as we restore the home back to the way we found it before we move out we’re good. But of course you can get a horrendous landlord who tries to push you out - it just sucks you never know who you’ll get so I try to interview the property management people extensively before signing a lease.

    Think about purchasing a hisense air conditioner, it can go into any window. We own and don't have central air either. We have two units, one for upstairs and one for downstairs and they keep our house pretty cool. Also, open your windows when it is still dark if it is cooler outside, we do this for about an hour before it starts to warm and it helps a lot. Black out window coverings also help with heat during the summer, get white ones though. We do use black sided black out during the winter and they attract the heat and do warm the room. I've never seen the track curtains over a closet style space. This would help add a closet to a room that doesn't have one, which where we live isn't considered a bedroom without it.

    Lots of ideas and options. Cleaning space alone can make such a difference. Repainting doors and trims is a big uplift. I have always stuck with brass door handles, even if they are “office knobs,” because brass does not harbour bacteria….one of its most wonderful attributes.
    I am not a fan of getting slap happy with paint. I paint to refresh and to get as much light as possible into my living space. Other than that I used wall decor that can be hung to create focal points and colour. When I move, or want a change, I just take it off a hook and the space remains neutral. There’s a reason landlords may not allow certain decor…but even in my own home, real estate agents have been in agreement on the neural use of paint.
    The same reason recipes call for vast amounts of sugar is the reason we’re so inundated with ideas for painting everything in our midst.

      @@tweetybird4347 thank you for your help but not as easy as being able to go to your playlist in UA-cam for your house and being able to view everything grouped together.

      Under the video where it says share, remix, thank you, slide this sideways and other options show up, save being one of them, you just can't see it until you slide to the left.

    Years ago I was looking for a rotating curtain rod and made my own with wooden dowels. There's a lost opportunity. I could have made and sold them. 🤣

    If you have someone in your household who is older or has hand/grip problems (or maybe very young, too?) then replacing those old "office" knobs with levered ones improves accessibility, too.

      But levers are NOT affordable. I gave up my search. You can save a little by using dummy knobs on doors that don't open from both sides.
