After decades of viewing him as the coasting, shiftless layabout of the family, he was no doubt as proud as he was surprised to see him stand for something meaningful.
Not underrated, as you insist on juvenile speak. No one is a legend. More drama and rhetoric. Hope is made you feel good. Garbage movie; completely fake bordering on hysteria. Try the WWE next time if you want something a bit more realistic.
Universal studios special effects and stunt people really outdid themselves on this one. This movie still remains to this day the most successful movie about firefighters ever
You go……..WE go!!! That’s so powerful right there. That will let your comrades know: no matter wtf it is, big or small, life or death were in this together all the way. I loved this movie as a kid. It’s literally what inspired me to be a fireman 👨🚒 at the age of 6 (1992)!!!
Scott Glen is phenomenal in everything he does, but this film was made all the better with him in it. Kurt Russell was incredible too and every since I watched him in Death Proof I’ve been a fan. I was 13 in 1991 and I didn’t get to see this film until about 10 years ago. It’s superb. Normally I don’t like films or shows that show emergency services as Hollywood gets it so wrong - I’m in the emergency services and it pisses me off. Anyway, this and Rescue Me are the only 2 that seem to get it right.
At 9:06 when Brian secures the line, the look on Kurt Russell's face...his acting is immensely superb. Stephen, at 9:09, sees his brother as a real firefighter. The amount of pride he expresses in those few seconds is amazing. The way he lays back and watches Brian save HIM. Everything he tried to teach Brian finally clicked and you can see Stephen finally let go knowing their father would be proud of him. That isn't acting you can learn. You either have that, or you don't.
1 time when I watched this movie in theater (I watched 6 times at 1991!) there was a bunch of hig school kids takling & laughing loudly when the movie started. When the movie ended, they all fell silence. Some of the girls were even in tears.
The Score of that Movie defined how 90's Blockbusters sounded and was reused on TV a lot whenever they marketed upcoming Actionstuff or wanted to have something sound dramatic for a couple of years. Funny enough the movie left almost no trace and most people probably never saw it. Maybe it was a bit unlucky that it had to compete with T2 in theatres (at least in my country). The FX Team did a tremendous job on the Practical Effects. Everything feels super real and dangerous. CGI just can't recreate that and won't be able to for a foreseeable future.
I remember traveling on amtrack in the early 90s and coming into Chicago's union Station we would pass within feet of the old Cuneo Press Factory (the large building that was used for the external shots of this scene). It was probably 1991 or 1992, not long after filming was completed. The burnt out building was pretty cool to see, as I am always game to learn about movie filming locations. They finally imploded it in the mid 90s. And the movie they showed one of those times was.....yep...Backdraft!
A crazy thing I just noticed was that pengelly and his buddy went into the chemical fire looking for the 3 ... Even more heroics I never caught as a kid watching this movie
at 8:47 what brian did there was actually pretty brilliant, the fire extinguisher exploded with enough force to blow the flames out temporarily and give Brian enough time to grab the hose
In real life, if you bust the head off a fire extinguisher like that, it’s not going to be a good day. It’s usually about 200 PSI inside that and there’s a chance you’re going to get hurt or have a rocket.
Doesn’t work that way. First the flames died down because the dry chem in the extinguished. You knock the top of it’s going to act like a blown up balloon that you let go. Only way this could possible work is to keep the trigger down in some way then throwing it. 100 years ago or so they had fire extinguisher grenades which were basically a glass globe with an extinguishing agent inside
When I watched this as a child, I didn't really get what was going on plot wise. For me, it was basic- firefighters vs fires. I literally thought that scene at 8:30 - they were fighting a sentient fiire creature. Amazing movie!
