Me too! It's a very moving scene, especially the cellos, flutes, violins, and trumpets playing in the background. Hans Zimmer did an excellent job with the music score.
*Backdraft* will always be my favorite movie with firefighters my favorite American heroes - and set in Chicago of course! May God bless all firefighters and first responders from across the globe.
My dad used to say that this was his favourite scene of the movie. Because he was Scottish, he loved the music that they played for Stephen's funeral. RIP Daddy xxxx
Damn, even after nearly 3 decades seeing this 1st time, always makes me tear that, honor guard, hand salute scene. Coupled with such music and this is such a epic I truly believe.
Fun fact. Those men in the uniform, were currently and former serving members of the Chicago fire department, Philadelphia, and New York fire department. They all donned their Class-A dress uniforms for this scene. Every single person in the wide angle shots that aren't actors for the movie (and a couple that were) were either former/then firefighters. The "Honorguard, hand salute" man himself I've read was a former chief.
@@damionstjames Hey man, thanks for that. I never thought of this but preparing the same uniforms in this large scale would have costed the movie maker a fortune just for this so makes sense. BTW, I bought the soundtrack CD, yes, compact disc, after seeing this clip. Never came across with soundtrack that I could listen all around without skipping the track.
@@tuber789 And thank YOU for those kind words. Movie/TV trivia is my second-favorite pastime. Further to that, I also love this soundtrack. Pure genius. Many of the scores from this film had been used by the (then) World Wrestling Federation for their pay-per-view hype videos. If you're curious what song the bagpipes are playing, is called Balmoral.
The timing of the tune to the imagery of the whole funeral and the procession is just just magnificent. In particular, the moment when the widow of Lt Stephen McCaffery receives the folded American flag is when the emotion was at its pinnacle.
The start of Sean’s origin to being a firefighter like his dad and uncle and grandfather And Brian’s Origen to become a Fire Chief, he would make his brother and father proud for reaching that level in the career

This reminds me of the 2 firemen we lost just a few years ago when the local library caught on fire. Firefighters throughout the whole valley came for the funeral. The firemen lost their lives looking for survivors inside the burning building. It was horrific and it hit our community really hard. My uncle was a Fireman and Paramedic in the Duwamish District in Seattle. He died when he got liver cancer from exposure to the foam that has been used for decades by firefighters throughout the country. Both men and women who work for Fire Departments worldwide risk it all for to protect the lives of the citizens of their communities.
Can someone please remind me of what the name of the song is after we return to the fire station and just before the credits start? It’s always been my favorite song in this movie but I’ve never been able to figure out what it’s called. I was a small town fire fighter for a lot of years after I graduated high school back in 2006. I followed in the footsteps of my late father who literally started out at the very bottom as an unpaid volunteer fire fighter and then managed to work his way up to being a member of the paid fire department then actually going as high is making fire chief. My father was my inspiration. Even after he died I continued fire fighting for a long time until unfortunately I injured my spine while on a call.
At the end of this movie I asked if Tim lived people answered me "Tim died" I didn't think so I thought maybe he survived but couldn't go back to work.
They never actually said he died. Adcox said he's alive at the hospital. So we can assume he's alive at the end. But there's no way they'd ever let him continue as a firefighter.
