Good video and thank you for sharing. But, I found that you really only need to take the rear bumper fascia off. I did that by poking the plastic clips with a standard (flat head) screwdriver, moving the heat plate enough to get the final three white clips on the passenger side and saved a ton of time and effort.
Absolutely spot on instructions. Thank you for making this easy. Hitch looks amazing and was not terribly difficult at all. Only part I’ve not figured out is how to reinstall the plastic rivets. The end doesn’t fit my rivet gun. Thanks, again!

Also a note for everyone..if you install this hitch, you WILL have the higher factory tow weight rating. If you go with an aftermarket hitch like the Curt, then you will have the lower tow weight rating.

Not quite. The "full" factory tow package also includes a bigger radiator for cooling, bigger alternator, bigger breaks (and wheels if you didn't start with a package with the 18s) and beefier suspension in the rear at least. No yacth towing out the gate to say the least Edit: not only bigger breaks which need the 18s to fit, but the vented rotors. Shocks and springs shouldn't be too much to do on your own relatively, and if you're like me, it's all coming regardless because any respectable lift kit outclasses the factory suspension by miles.
If you want to tow something heavy the first thing we suggest is to add or upgrade is the transmission cooler. The transmission will take the most abuse when towing heavy and will require heavy duty cooling. The next thing would be an auxiliary oil cooler. These are all things that likely come from the factory when equipped with the max tow package.

I have a 2021 SRT. Am I correct to understand that the hitch, once installed, cannot be covered with the bumper cap? I really didn't want the hitch visible unless in use which would only be used for a bike rack.
Hi Stephen, you are correct. Also be aware that if your SRT has the center exit exhaust there is no hitch that will fit as the tips are directly in the way.
Hi there, Mopar does not actually provide any weight capacities for the hitch but they advise that you refer to your vehicles owners manual for the towing capacity and tongue weight!
We've heard there are apps that can be purchased to do this. Generally you will also need to buy patch cables also. Rumor has it this might cost a little more than going to the stealership, but may allow you to make other changes to your vehicles programming.
@@ModulaRacks I used a obd2 scan tool with Bluetooth. Total cost is $10 for the scanner and I paid $23 to register my vehicle with Jscan. Took less than 10 minutes to get my trailer lights turned on.

The USCAR plug is a fairly large round connector. It is usually tucked up behind the bumper on the driver side. It can be tricky to locate, take a light under with you. The harness is also not always present as it is part of a "tow prep package".

Man... My pressure clips on the fender flares did NOT want to come out. I wish you'd have shown a little bit of that process instead of the FoodTV style "we're gonna XYZ" and then cut to "we have it done and now we're gonna..."
I removed the pop clips at the top of the fender flare, removed the one alligator clip at the bottom, removed the 7mm screw, then proceeded to remove the bumper. Once off, removed the two remaining alligator clips and detached the fender flares from the bumper...
I swear it looks like you could remove that bottom section only not the entire bumper plus rivets by going on the underside and taking some needle nose to those clips on the lower section + the couple of 10mm bolts on the side on my 2017. I may be crazy cause I can't find a single video on youtube where they don't take the entire bumper off. Maybe a chance for me to do a new video? I wonder if anyone has tried it just removing the lower section.
I'm sorry to break it to you and it may be different on earlier models(I cant tell if yours has the bottom section or not) but on 2017 model limited, you only have to remove the lower black section vs the entire rear bumper and it's much much easier to take that off with just some little white clips that can be removed quite easily from the backside with a small screwdriver pressing the tab and lightly pushing up. I installed an OEM factory hitch on my 2017 limited this morning 3/19/2022 by only removing the bottom section. Cutting the insert was the toughest part and most time consuming too. I was wishing for a dremmel cutting tool but I dont have one unfortunately. I tried heating the razor with a candle after my lighter gave up and that worked better than nothing. Torqued the bolts per your video at 90 ft lbs. My eyes are so old they wont do 89. I appreciate your hard work. There's much easier way to remove just the lower trim piece on the bumper instead of the hassle of removing the entire bumper. Go to Jeepforums.com and do a search on hitch install.
That's a great tip. It has been a while since we made this video but I seem to remember that this level of trim had a smaller lower fascia and we couldn't have gotten the hitch in. Though... it has been a while.
@@ModulaRacks Very true. It won't work on some facias, but on the late model Limiteds - mine is a 2019 -, it should work. Much easier since you don't have to disconnect all the sensors and replace the rivets.

You only need to remove the bottom facia. 11 clips and a few screws and bolts. No sensors or other molding.

Without factory towing package, towing capacity is only like 1500lbs. Gear ratios are different also trans cooler.

There should be a grey plug above your OBD-II port slightly to the left above some multicolored wires! Hope that helps.

That would depend on how your MOPAR dealer sells the hitch. Ours came complete, as a kit but. I believe you could order the parts individually.

How did you get the bolt off (and even back on) over the muffler? I have no room with my torque wrench and socket...
You could use a universal joint to give you thr angle you need otherwise use a standard wrench 🔧 and make sure she's good and tight

If we remember correctly, removing the lower section doesn't give you quite enough space to slide the hitch into the frame rails.

Yup, some have the tough part wired up and you just need a couple of jumpers and a brake control. Some don't; be sure to check.
