Holly is my cousin ...whom I'm so very very proud ...not only of his fabulous voice. But he's such a lovely person 💞
I Saw Holly perform this live on youtube ( a few million others as well ) few years back... I think it may have been live on gGerman tv.... Amazing live voice .. sounded just like the record . I was surprised at clear and strong it was ..
The 3 main songs they did this one, relax and 2 tribes have aged well and relax still sounds fresh to day has it did then. No matter which version you hear... You don't get acts like this anymore or sound
best male voice in rock and roll
@@kuvasz5252 that belongs to freddie but his voice is beautiful on this he showed out.
A legend
This is one of the greatest love songs ever written.
truth
I second that!
i agree and im not even religious
Big shout out to all who thought Frankie in the day rocked, with a middle finger up at society and it's rules.
The "Welcome To The Pleasure Dome" album was (and still is) a gem. I really loved (most of) Trevor Horn's productions back then. Bands like FGTH, Propaganda, ABC (The Lexicon of Love is still one of my fav albums of the early 80s), Art of Noise and ofcours Trevor's own band The Buggles.
@@avanoosterhout8397 amen to that! 👍
@@avanoosterhout8397 I agree. Frankie's cover of Born To Run for me is the best version of that song.
Society has to have rules to function or it becomes anarchy. You just can't put up your finger at it. You sound like a nuckle dragging lefty socialist.
@@shanehenderson8756 a healthy amount of anarchy keeps society on its toes. Without some anarchy society will not evolve.
This song is so underrated. I love it ! It makes me cry. I don't know why?
I got also tears in my eyes everytime i hear this
For anyone who didn't know the 3 wise kings represent the 3 continents of Christendom, Europe, Asia and Africa, hence why there is a white king, a black king and an Asian king.
A true masterpiece!!!
Two Tribes by Frankie is a must listen. Do not pause during the intro, it’s a banger!!
the extended mix......oh yes what a blast
The versions of Two Tribes containing the Voice of the late Patrick Allen, who was the voice to "Protect and Survive" the UK Government information films on what to do in the case of nuclear war in the 1970's/80's.
@@dazzlerbob1870 oh yes.....if you flip the vynl over a little track called surrender......brilliant
agreed.......i changed my views (and my father being a nuclear physicist helped)
This is as beautiful as Relax was controversial.
One of the greatest albums in pop history.
Yes it sure is and the title track is pure pop magic!!!!
Totally different vibe to Relax. This song was released at Christmas time which is why the video is a reenactment of the Nativity scene
They were still probably trying to create controversy, with the Christ theme and the obviously Jewish Joseph character (and yes I know Joseph WAS Jewish!).
@ Strange how people seem to forget that...😉
Three different songs called The Power of Love were in the UK charts within a few months. This one, Jennifer Rush and Huey Lewis.
The most used songtitle apparently. Wiki list at least 17 different songs called "The Power of Love"
Jurgen, that is probably true, but this is the only time that three different songs with the same title have appeared in the UK chart (2 #1s and a # 9) in the same year. That makes this noteworthy.
So in the German charts.
Huey Lewis's version was heavily involved in one of my favourite films, "Back to the future".
@@jrgensoknes9673 Were they ALL in the UK charts a few months of each other? N, so your point is?
"I'll protect you from the Hooded Claw, keep the vampires from door, when the chips are down, I'll be around with my undying, death-defying love for you."
Amazing lyrics in one of the best love songs ever written, and nobody could sing it better than Holly.
Liverpool has produced some of the greatest music in the history of Music 🎶
My wife and I played this at our wedding, I was also was going to play this for her committal at her funeral where the body goes behind the curtain for cremation, then it crossed my mind that the first line of the song is "Ayee ayee aye feels like fire" which might not be the most appropriate for the circumstances.
I feel for you sir
So sorry to hear, sweet yet heartbreaking story.
Whooooaa.
Capped with humour.
Circle. X.
Bless you mate
@@jeffjefferson7384 Oddly enough its the second anniversary of her passing today.
This was the Christmas no.1 from 1984. The first of 3 different songs with the same title in the UK chart in 1985. The others were by Jennifer Rush (July) and Huey Lewis and the News (August).
It was number one in the UK in early December 84, but didn't quite stay there for Christmas - that accolade went to Band Aid with Do They Know It's Christmas?.
Yes, you're right. It probably *would* have been Christmas No. 1 that year but for Band Aid and Wham, both of whom dedicated record sales to the famine in Ethiopia and were at the time the strongest-selling No.1 and No.2 songs in history in the UK. 1984 was a jaw-dropping year for music :)
Jon Cole, you are right. I got my facts a little skewed. By Christmas 1984 this song had dropped to no.6, by the first week of January 1985 it was at no.7. My basic premise however is correct: 1985 saw 3 different songs with the same title in the same year. Interestingly, only 5 songs with this title have ever been top 30 hits in the UK and one of the remaining two (Celine Dion in 1994) was a cover of Jennifer Rush's song.
Such a sad song they were SO powerful when I was a child in the 80's best songs came from England IMHO
One of my favourite songs. Holly Johnson's voice is beautiful. Watch Two Tribes!!
You have to imagine the Uk in the 80s to experience this song fully ....2am in a club , all girls in dresses and all men in suits .....dancing with a beauty you’d just met .
Very much so man, good times. Clubs! What are they hehe.
One of the finest love songs ever! The 12 inch version has one of the most beautiful guitar solos you'll ever hear. It sends a shiver up my spine every time. *I've still got an original vinyl.
I forgot how beautiful the song is
First time I heard this I was depressed, sat in the dark in the middle of the night in bed and it came on the radio and I cried
Best version! - makes me cry everytime - well done young lady - sending love from England.
these guys had some of the best bass lines in pop music history! happy new year and big love to all people :)
Ooh a spaceman came travelling by both Chris d'burg and covered by celtic woman. Both versions are beautiful
Gotta say CDB has it for me
Somebody needs a to a reaction video to Chris burgh the spaceman, it's a masterpiece of nobody knows about.... except you when i
Agreed! Two Tribes for me was the best song of the 80's man wot a baseline! Two Tribes is a must!
Adore this song, beautiful. Weird for me to listen to it when it’s not Christmas but stunning really. “I’m so in love with you, purge the soul.”
It wasn't a Christmas song and was not about Jesus. They were releasing it just before Christmas and made this video.
@@blinkybill2198 yes, it charted at Christmas hence why a lot of people associate it with Christmas including me
I remember when this come out, how long it was but I loved it
So glad you did this song, so underrated! Makes me cry every time! Love your reaction, you always come from the heart space & have such a gentle energy!
Loved this song from the day it was released. Thank you my pretty lady for reviewing such a beautiful song. X
It’s my favourite Christmas song
what a great song . such a contrast to Relax Two tribes ect ect.
Please react to "Stay" by Shakespeare's Sister!
YES!!
Seconded!
Yes please. I made this request as well on another video.
Any Shakespears Sister!
That is a good one.
A powerful song
A great Christmass massage. Lyrics give a worm feeling
This is a awesome tune, I am so proud to be from the same city as Frankie
I remember buying the double when it came out in 1984 when I was in high school. I thought the track (The Power of Love) was a love song, then around Christmas time, the video debuted and I was surprised it was about the nativity. Great album, and memories...
Such an underrated song. I’ll always remember it as a Christmas song as it was number 1 in the UK during Christmas 1985. One of the greatest love songs ever.
This song is so beautiful. Absolutely.
People mistake this as a xmas song, it actually wasn't wrote with Christmas in mind . Like Easter xmas song because of the words it was played at xmas and the rest they say is history.. a great song
It's interesting the different take each person has on this. To me, this was a new Father expressing undying love for his Child. It's an incredibly beautiful song.
I'm covered in goosebumps 💘💘
the duality in this song (concerning good and evil ) and the struggle for acceptance in a biblical world combating (for a lack of better words) the hypocrisy of attained values is....amazing...especially knowing the background of the Holly Johnson...hence the biblical reference in this song actually questions the believe that love can only be obtained by divinity, and so he sings "make love your goal.." and not religion which may dictate it.
I LOVE this song so much. The first version I ever heard was in the early 2000’s by a group called Feeder. It was a “B side” track to their single “just the way I’m feeling”. It’s more of and soft Indy-rock (😜) version but it’s so beautiful.
Thanks for reviewing 😊
My mum loved this song 😔❤ merry xmas everyone
AMAZING SONG! Huge Hit here in Canada. ♥️♥️♥️🎼🎶🎵🇨🇦🇨🇦
This is an INCREDIBLE song
Very nice song by them. I first heard this in 1984.
Love this song ,best ever
There was 3 songs in the British top 20 at the same time called 'the power of love" this one by Frankie goes to Hollywood, one by Jennifer Rush and one by Huey Lewis and the news
Frankie and the boys did liverpool proud. Ynwa
I like your reaction Mrs India 💠 Your ears don't just hear they listen ! Greetings from Western Australia 🌅
This song was used as the backdrop music for the very first condom advert in the UK.
I knew you’d love this! As someone else said, Stay by Shakespeare’s Sister is another you will love!!
This is one of those songs where you hold your lover and sway to the music
Thanks so much for your reaction. Love this song
My absolute favourite Christmas song from the 80s 💔❤️. That and Fairy Tale of New York. 🙏♥️👋🇬🇧
Definitely one of the Best Christmas Songs!
So beautiful song,really emotional❤
It was released near Christmas hence the nativity video, it is regarded as having a religious aspect but I believe that it's saying the power of love is above anything else.
It might have been my age and the way I interpreted the news but this song seemed to me to call for peace. We were in the final throws of the Cold War and wondering if they would nuke us or if we would nuke them. Reagan was taking about Star Wars. I was like in grade 7 or 8 and this song always seemed to address the internal silent fears that I didn't quite understand but seemed very real.
Your listening to a MASTERPIECE is all you need to know.
You will have to do “Two Tribes” next! 😉
" I'll protect you from the Hooded Claw." A reference to the villain in The Wacky Races' Perils of Penelope Pitstop cartoon.
Great song. One of my favourites growing up. Almost religious feel about it.
Only love is real. Bless the world in 2022 💫
My favourite Christmas song of all time
A force from above, Make Love Your Goal.
Here is a strange fact.....Huey Lewis &the News, Jennifer Rush &Frankie goes to Hollywood all had a song called POWER OF LOVE all released in the same year all went to No1 in Britain 😁
This makes me tear up each time
Beautiful song. Loved it when it came out, still love it!
You seemed genuinely moved by this, its a lovely song glad you enjoyed it. ❤
Frankie does a killer cover of "Born to Run". Better than the original.
The extended version features the saying of the Lord's Prayer
took me 5 minutes but i remembered "Frankie goes to Hollywood" then the song was at the rendez-vous
One of the best album artwork ever, looked at it constantly (elephants always made me smile.)
Same year there was different songs with the same title by Hewy Lewis and the News also Jennifer Rush.
oh yeah I adore this song
The hooded claw was in the bands fav cartoon the perils of Penelope pitstop
Soulful song, still gives me goosebumps. Beautiful. ❤️
Love this song class
I'm an oldie, I have loved this song since it came out when I was a child. This and "Romeo and Juliet" by Dire Straits are probably my favourite love songs ever.
This is not the video I'm familiar with, though. The one that played here was basically him singing alone in a very dark room, which doesn't seem to exist on the Tube.
Beautiful song with a very beautiful lady who reacting to this song😊
The ultimate Christmas video!
Spot on in your interpretation!
Another great song by Frankie Goes to Hollywood is 'Two Tribes'. This song is more like 'Relax' with the hard rock vibe, instead of the soft sensation that you get from this song you just reacted to.
You're reaction was beautiful 🙏🏼 Sending smiles from Scotland 🌺
I loved your reaction to this. We all feel it. How could we not.
Two Tribes 12" video of USA v USSR is a must also "Welcome to the Pleasure Dome 12" version.....some groove!
Beautiful words. Thank you, India.
Oh wow, was hoping someone would react to this classic! Love it! My fav song from FGTH. It lifted my spirit when I was a teen, gosh so long ago lol
Great Christmas song.
I'm so glad I found your channel, fantastic to hear your own personal critique on songs
You need to check out (Boa, Welcome) her father is from (Bad Company) and she's awesome.
Great song. From the soul cant help but give it up.
Beautiful Song! ❤️
Great Albums from this band!
Looking good India! Looking good! Yeah, awesome song. Pleasuredome!
Extended Version of this song is best version. 👌
GOAT Love song
When I was a kid I would remove the speakers from my stereo put them on the floor, lay down with my head between them and listen to this song.
A million miles from Relax!
Would be interesting to see your reaction to the 1970's Black British Band's Heatwave's "Always and Forever" or the Real Things " Can't Get By Without You , Great examples of Black British Bands taking in American music than owning it as their own. And great lyrics.
This was my favourite Christmas song as a kid, it still makes me cry EVERY time I hear it! ❤❤❤
