Hyce and kAN challenge: using only a s282 Pick up 3 loads in harbor (2 to goods factory, 1 Steel mill if possible, if not possible just the heaviest load available in yard not in job) Take two loads from harbor to good factory Go from good factory to iron ore mine east Go from iron ore east to food factory Go from food factory to machine factory Machine factory to oil well central If possible pick up and accept load at oil well central to harbor if can’t be accepted just S.T.E.A.L it Oil well central to oil well north via steel mill Oil well north to harbor. If it doesn’t make sense then please let me know
Tips for steam operation: 1. Try to use the blowoff as sparingly as possible. The blowoff is the largest way to waste water. If you have to use the blower, use it to lower the water to just barely visible at the top of the gauge. 2. If the safety pops, dampen the fire. The safety is the second largest way to lose water. Having 13 bar of pressure is better than having no water. 3. The louder the pistons are, the harder the engine is working. When at speed, try to keep the engine as quite as possible while maintaining speed by keeping the wheel as close to center as possible. If you are running at or above the speed limit on flat or downhill grades, turn off the throttle to conserve water.
The safety valve really doesn't waste much steam/water in Derail Valley so you don't need to worry about that. What does, however, waste a ton of water is overflowing the boiler and using the blowdown to fix that.
"I got 14 bar of pressure, I'm blowing my safety, I am one notch above on the reverser, I got my throttle wide open, and I'm almost at 90, 85ish" Me: He's about to blow up, isn't he? Seconds later...BOOM! And then later, Hyce is telling him it's all smooth sailing for him, let it fly...and CRAAAAASH! BOOM! Perhaps on the retry you should do Hyce in a steamer vs kAN in a diesel?
Get yourself a rally style co-driver that sits in discord watching the stream, announcing the corners coming up in between of repeating "check the water, check the water, check the water"
Reason for termination: 1. 6 destroyed locomotives. (3 overspeed derailments, 2 low water boiler explosions, 1 over water catastrophic cylinder failure.) 2. 72 exploded tank cars with cargo. Estimated value of cargo $ 5.4 M
For those here for the spicy bois: Kenosha at 4:35, 11:22, 24:01, 33:38, 39:07, and 46:54. An average of roughly 7 minutes 40 seconds between Kenoshas.
If you put a lantern on the shelf near the controls and another lantern on the shelf in the back left of the cab then you can see the sight glass better. Also, if you overfill the boiler you should just run with the cylinder cocks open until you use up the water (the blowdown wastes a lot of water).
Constantly! Especially for #2 - and then a minute after I was going "water... water... water!" - Kan started listing all the things he had, didn't list water, then boom!
Dude, this was so fun to watch after the Hyce side. Next time I'm synching them up even though I only have one screen. Hope y'all can continue this series. Love the Explodey Trains Podcast. :)
Man. I only know anything about trains and how to run a steam locomotive because of this channel. And I watch and scream as I see a problem (low water) happening
I just saw my first working steam engine a couple days ago. I was at Disneyland and the big train that goes around the park is an actual steam engine. I didn't have a chance to look at it closely but it was cool knowing more about the train than my family and being able to tell them about it.
I love how they had the technology when they made these machines to make a system that automatically sets the water injector off and/or dumps the fire when the water levels get critical, which is what they'd have to do these days to avoid getting sued. But back in the day they were simply like if he cant pay attention he probably shouldn't be driving the train lol
Tbf any diesel powered engine can operate on alcohol but it's even more inefficient than usual. There's old war tales from ww2 of tanks having to use liquor for fuel cause they ran out and were too far away for safe resupply
I personally believe, even after using all water it was still possible to finish the job. Of course you would have to reduce speed to fit into left turn on the last switch before the last tunnel and drop all the fire. The remaining distance was downhill so you would make it to the station.
In order to have the same conditions for both players, once you get preferred setup of the jobs at the station you can simply make a save and send the save file to the other player.
it does not matter if you're moving or not, if there is a fire burning then water is still going to boil off, and also when hyce said liquid water is gone when it becomes steam well that's not true, even as steam it's still liquid, just super hot water
Derail valley really need MP, would be so fun to watch your in the same world, and yeah there is a freaking reason steam locos were not operated alone, so why not allow people to you know not run them alone in the game ;)
I'm surprised steam locomotives didn't have automatic safety throttles for a bunch of things, to avoid explosions. Next time, please set the switches before starting the race. Heck, it could even be the penalty/handicap for your frienemy to not set the switches ahead of time, while you do have them set ahead of time.
Me, watching kAN just drown his poor boiler. I get its been a year and you probably already know this, but the S282 for some reason doesn't show how much water is really in the sight glass until you start building pressure. Best to leave it alone until you get past 9 bars of pressure. At that point it's showing accurate.
Again no such thing as Diesel mechanical locomotives, the Diesel locomotive that has a manual transmission, in a way it really does have a clutch, cause in a car with a manual transmission what do you do to shift, you let off the gas, mash the clutch, shift, let off the clutch and mash the gas. When you engage the clutch you are disengaging the gears and disengaging the clutch you're engaging the gears so when you let off the throttle on the locomotive to shift you are pretty much disengaging the gears.
Well you don’t even have to use the clutch to shift, only to start, and getting into reverse. Double clutching (especially on non synchro transmissions) on older pickups/cars, and then semi trucks you don’t even have to use the clutch, and shouldn’t when shifting. All about letting your rmps drop to the right level then shift.
Make sure to sync up with Hyce's video here although I would recommend muting the audio on one of them: ua-cam.com/video/uDrE18GUzpc/v-deo.html
Do a challenge against Hyce with a Steam vs Diesel competition. You can operate the DM3 to avoid "Mishaps", and Hyce can run the S060. How's that?

New challenge: can you go 15 minutes without cluthulu-ing the train? 🤣
hi kan gaming im a big fan and i even made cupcakes with icing to match your logo i wished i could show you it but i dont have discord

I love that at like 22:45 to 23:00 he walks past the water glass several times, and doesn't notice that it's empty
And also turned off the injector when it was already empty.
If anyone wants to rewatch all the "fireworks"

This is what i looking for

Let's be honest... almost still opened cylinder cocks doesn't help either. 😁
"I got 14 bar of pressure, I'm blowing my safety, I am one notch above on the reverser, I got my throttle wide open, and I'm almost at 90, 85ish"

Samir! You're breaking the train!
instead of pressing no, you can press cancel and it won't show the tutorial again
You guys should race asymetric Locos, we need to give Hyce more handicaps lol. Glad you two are playing together again! Always a blast.
Dear god. That was freaking hilarious seeing your POV after watching Hyce’s.
in this episode, Kan has:
A) binned it,
B) peed in a cup,
C) smelled the Kenosha,
D) all the above
Reason for termination: 1. 6 destroyed locomotives. (3 overspeed derailments, 2 low water boiler explosions, 1 over water catastrophic cylinder failure.)
2. 72 exploded tank cars with cargo. Estimated value of cargo $ 5.4 M
and a partridge in a pear tree... :P
kan: my train runs so good we cursing
also kan in the same moment: running the loco dry on water for 3 minutes straight
3:23 Hyce also begins moving forward at this exact point.
4:30 💥
11:16 💥💥💥

you would think that, as much problems as Kan has with water control, he would start actively watching the water gauge
this should be the top comment xD

Loved this lol. Should have named this "Hyce has several William Shatner moments, screaming over and over..... KAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You can press 'X' to 'sit', which allows you to look through the windows of the S282.
Me yelling at the screen to check the water level
Constantly! Especially for #2 - and then a minute after I was going "water... water... water!" - Kan started listing all the things he had, didn't list water, then boom!
Love this race series with you and Hyce!
Dude, this was so fun to watch after the Hyce side. Next time I'm synching them up even though I only have one screen. Hope y'all can continue this series. Love the Explodey Trains Podcast. :)
33:53 Hyce: "I'm running up the stupidest hill in the game right now"
kAN: "Hold my beer"
Love hearing the engineering discourse with you & Hyce
When Hyce is done, you could have him help by watching you and making sure you don't forget about things. Also PLLEEASE USE THE BRAAKES KAN
Brakes are clearly overrated. They slow everything down.
Man. I only know anything about trains and how to run a steam locomotive because of this channel. And I watch and scream as I see a problem (low water) happening
I feel for you, Kan. However, this was entertaining as all get up. A great video.
I just saw my first working steam engine a couple days ago. I was at Disneyland and the big train that goes around the park is an actual steam engine. I didn't have a chance to look at it closely but it was cool knowing more about the train than my family and being able to tell them about it.
I must have blown up 4-5 S060s before I learned to drive a steam loco. So fun to watch, don't worry about blowing things up.
I love how they had the technology when they made these machines to make a system that automatically sets the water injector off and/or dumps the fire when the water levels get critical, which is what they'd have to do these days to avoid getting sued. Kan the lead ES&D MAN 😂😅
The whole time I'm watching I'm screaming in my head WATER KAN CHECK THE WATER.
I got one of the first veiws on hyces video and was just waiting for Kans video after hearing all the times his train blew up
alcohol burning trains are ONLY the model trains that are live steam like OO or the big ones you can ride on i looked it up
Tbf any diesel powered engine can operate on alcohol but it's even more inefficient than usual. There's old war tales from ww2 of tanks having to use liquor for fuel cause they ran out and were too far away for safe resupply
@@luciferhellhound OH YEA i did see some diesels when i looked it up
@@luciferhellhound Now I want to know if the Soviets used vodka as a fuel additive, bc it won't gel up or freeze like diesel will.
23:47 and i've got no water in the boiler
You can clixk "Cancel" instead of "no" so you wont be asked if you want the tutorial in the future
Concerning the title: A brilliant plan! 😉🤣

now, try to break the sound barrier using the least locomotives

You really need to get huce to give you a head start racing him is like amuture racing a pro
Kan does a lot of noob v pro stuff, this is in line with his brand, since he seems to be a pretty modest loser lol
Kan this is not the Diesels, when Operating a steamer you need to get in the habit of watching the water glass regularly.
lol you look at all your gauges except for the water glass
And I thought trains burning whiskey was rather crazy kon gaming
you need to go and to Colorado railroad museum and watch Hyce run the reel thang so we can see your reacction, it would be fun to see.
Derail valley really need MP, would be so fun to watch your in the same world, and yeah there is a freaking reason steam locos were not operated alone, so why not allow people to you know not run them alone in the game ;)
Thank Hyce for sending me.

Some have melting plugs

What about a 500 tonne haul race from harbour to machine factory?
Hyce with an S060.
Kan with an DH4.
16:40 You can turn that off in the settings. It's just that it's on by default.
and again Kan is not paying attention to the track
Kan is not the smartest or the best train driver but we love him for who he is … until he drives trains irl
Kan STOP BLEEDING STEAM AT FULL JOHNSON!!11!1
great vid tho
Love you kan
I wish you didn't spoil the "Will I explode today?" question in the thumbnail.
you and hyce should build a train in scrap mechanic
You bin it, to win it, am i right 😂
Based on how badly you bin it in this game, I think I know what your Railroads Online company should be. The DNF.
bread
Cheese
I can see alcohol as a fuel additive, due to its anti-freezing properties, but on its own I don't see alcohol being a good fuel
GG
"Would you like to be shown around the controls for this locomotive"?
... Cancel | >No | Yes
It fell over, fell into the swamp, then burned down & blew up. (at approx 33 minutes
💥💥💥
You could drink that alcohol no problem... Once
you can do anything... once
...And it says it's explosive.... No one tell hyce that all alcohol is explosive..
Not gonna lie chief... but that pic reminds me of nightmare fuel...
Also on your cars and trucks those round things you see in front of you on the other side of the steering wheel, those are called gauges, not meters.
Rude....
Those are oval windows
Hi
race big diesel
rip s282
how many times can Kan blow up. Number=Yes! :P

you forgot scrap mechanic
