Aspect ratio options are available in game selection screen only. Hold coin and back button simultaneously. Once your in the game you can’t change the aspect ratio unless you go back to the game selection screen.
I've pressed coin and back, held coin and back, repeatedly pushed coin and back, held coin and then pressed back, held back and then pressed coin, and nothing has worked for me. Are there different versions of the cabinet? Maybe this one doesn't have that feature.

You CAN change the aspect ratio by pressing the coin and back buttons simultaneously.
A menu pops up, and you can change it to 4.3, original, and the stretched mode.
Wait till it gets to the game menu, then press both buttons.
If you want arcade perfection in a plastic toy, you might be asking for a bit much!

You are in luck. There are detailed instructional vids on YT showing how to modify this Data East mini, to run emulated games via MAME with the correct aspect ratios.
I hate when things are in the wrong aspect ratio. I hate when games or TV shows that are supposed to 4:3 get stretched to 16:9. Years ago, I hated it when movies were converted to pan & scan for 4:3 TVs rather than being letterboxed. I have a friend who absolutely HATES having any black space on the screen. He has his TV set to stretch everything to fill the screen regardless of the original aspect ratio. It drives me crazy!

Your rage is completely warranted. What were they thinking? Correct aspect ratio is a BIG DEAL. Put a switch or option to stretch the picture for the people who (incorrectly) prefer that, if you want. But the original display should be on the device. Not having it is bullshit.

Walmart has a no receipt exchange for store credit. If they carry it you could have at least done that and got groceries with that money.

I've returned items I didn't get at Walmart to Walmart a couple times. They don't care and will give you store credit. I once accidentally bought Dragon Quest Heroes 2 twice for $19.99 on Amazon. Returned it to Walmart and got $30 credit which I put towards Yakuza 6.

My has a 4:3 mode and includes magical Drop III as the last listed title on the box.

It might be fun for a little while but that joystick is quickly going to become a source of frustration. Nothing, absolutely nothing, is more frustrating than trying to play a favorite classic game with a bunk controller.

It's essentially just a collectible toy for people who want to play retro games, but can't have the genuine article because of cost or space limitations or put together a MAME rig. I will admit I don't have this exact machine, but I do have most of the other ones by MyArcade that I've picked up here and there for $10-$20 each, as well as the Arcade Classics and Tiny Arcade branded ones. Are they perfect? No, but then again they're not horrible either, and I find them fun for what they are.
For somebody a bit more hard-core, I might suggest having a look at the Replicade and Quarter Arcade mini machines. Pricey units! But they aim to be much more faithful working replicas of the real machines. I'm personally hoping to get one of those, hopefully they'll come out with an Asteroids or Asteroids Deluxe soon!

Everyone is complaining about the aspect ratio in these videos but you can actually change it. In the main menu simply hold the coin and back button together enter the screen to change aspect ratio .(Use the joystick and start button to select the ratio 😊👍 . Hopefully this will make it a little bit more bearable for those hard-core gaming enthusiasts 😊Have a great day
I tried that. It didn't work. I guess that works for the 35 in 1 update. Mine is 34 in 1.
Press the coin and back button to bring up the aspect ratio option. I picked on up yesterday for $70 and it came with a red slip that has the instructions to change it but it does say that you’ll have to do that every time you start up your mini cabinet. I know initially it should’ve had the original aspect but I hope this helps.
You just possibly saved me $79.99(at my Target) as I saw this a few days ago on the shelf and was VERY tempted. Thanks! And looking forward to more reviews.
Interesting to note that the upcoming Namco Museum mini arcade that will be released by my arcade will have a, you guessed it, a proper vertical screen so that the games can be played at the proper aspect ratio...! From what I hear, it will most likely be available after Christmas (with a slim possibility of it showing up for sale before)

I know exactly what your saying, even now I set most of my emulators or old hardware to a 4:3 ratio. The problem is no one makes 4:3 lcd screens anymore and if they do they don't do them in enough numbers to satisfy demand. I keep saying if some one was to make 4:3 CRT monitors again they would make a killing on the retro scene but there just too expensive to make now.
Those arcade cabinets being sold at Walmart for 299 will be discounted by 50 this Black Friday 2018. Walmart is the only place to get the Galaga/Galaxian cabinet. You can order these online as well. Hmm... $249.99 for Galaga that's practically arcade perfect??? I'm almost considering it, but in truth I'd rather get an actual legit Galaga / Mr.s Pacman cabinet.
I would've asked for a refund! For $30, it wouldn't have bothered me too much but at about $100...there's no excuse. If classic compilations from 10-15 years ago allowed you to mess with the aspect ratio and stretch/shrink the screen, there is NO reason that they couldn't have done it for this thing.
Also as a fellow game collector, I'm going to throw this out there: If you saved that 99$ you spent on this shelf-candy, you (very very likely given your trips and con appearances)... could've spent it towards a high-dollar item you may be missing from your SNES or NES or Atari-ST collections you may want in the future. Let us fans send you this junk, spend your earned money on your family or stuff worth a damn IMO.

I bought this thing a few months ago, and I agree. I was psyched to add it to my mini arcade collection, but the aspect ratio, the poor quality video and audio, and the janky controls make this thing a chore to play.
There is a community of hackers who love to mess with mini arcades. If you're handy with a soldering iron, this machine can be hacked. The production value of the tutorial here isn't the best, but it gets the job done:

Sorry to state the obvious, but all you had to do was look at the pictures on the box before buying it to notice the thing's aspect ratio wasn't correct.

I was told this had options to change the aspect ratio...did you not check?
I have seen on other reviews on this mini arcade that you can change the aspect ratio by holding down 'coin' and 'back' buttons at the same time. This will then display options for 'fullscreen' or '4:3'. I don't own this mini arcade, but have seen others advise that this option is available 🙂
That only seems to work with the 35 in 1. Not the 34 in 1.

Glad I decided not to bother getting one. The stretched ratio reminds me of the PSX emulation on my PSP-1000 when you change ratio options. It is awful.

you're right. it's not worth $99, I paid $54 shipped off of ebay, and was disappointed at that price, but I bought it with intentions of putting an android version of mame on it and custom roms, and now that it's 'hacked' it's totally worth $100 bux. I agree with all that you said except the screen complaints...the screen is nice, it's worth the money.

Honestly just play this games on a smartphone with a bluetooth controller. The games look beautiful and colorful on my Samsung Galaxy S7 edge and Galaxy Note 9 and you can play them in 4:3. These things are just a cash grab

I’ve seen so many mini arcades being released lately, it’s almost like the NEW Plug & Plays and AT Games console garbage that have been shovelled out. They are nice looking but always seems to be garbage.
Aspect Ratio and controls are definitely the two most important things when it comes to replicating any game. Arcade or Console.
Above all, that form factor just doesn't do anything for me.

You should have save the receipt and play within a week. If you didn't like it, return it. $100 refund. You can explain it to them that you wife tell you to return the product because you need to pay something like the bill. Make an excuse or something.
I recently bought a faucet because one of my faucet in the restroom didn't work. Eventually I fix the old one and returned the new one to get my money back. And yes, I did open it but didn't used it at all.
