One thing that isn't mentioned here is that MyArcade is actually just a rebranding of the company known as dreamGear, a company who specialized in making unlicensed/pirated NES/VT03 plug 'n plays and other devices in the 2000s. They changed to the MyArcade branding sometime in 2016.

The absolute funniest thing I can think of is if Ben Heck were to tear one of these arcades down and discover that it's not the NOAC but all of the NES ports burned onto the same ARM implementation and a hard wired short that selects which game it actually plays. He actually did this with a previous run of devices on the Ben Heck Show while he was still part of it, and one game actually contained four different games and all you needed was a selector switch to change between the games. After which he not only miniaturized the already minimal design to make it actually keychain sized, I think his changes actually made it easier and more comfortable to play.

Especially in these days where we are spending so much time inside our homes, lighting and decor make such a difference. I'm a big fan of the idea behind having these to give a sense of warmth and nostalgia. I'm working on building my own arcade cabinet for the same reason. Will I play it? Sure. However, 99% of the time, I just want the DigDug arcade demo running in the background.

Dig Dug also never got a western release on NES, even though Dig Dug 2 did. As a side note, the majority of Namco's NES releases and several of their Famicom games (Including Mappy, Dig Dug and Galaxian) got released as Namco Museum Archives Volumes 1 and 2 on modern consoles and PC. It also includes brand new NES ports of Gaplus and Pac-Man Championship Edition.

1:41 I actually bought the Data East Pixel Player before knowing about the stolen stuff in it. Not only that it contains stolen MapleStory music, it also contains a ROM hack of Balloon Fight. I have a whole bunch of these. I bought em up as soon as I saw them. I got Dig Dug, Karate Champ, Galaga, Galaxian, Bad Dudes, Pacman, Ms.Pacman, Burger Time, Contra and Street Fighter 2. I also got some mini arcade machines from Arcade Classics that made Wreck-it-Ralph, Tetris and Mortal Kombat. Then I got a bunch of those micro arcade machines from Tiny Arcade. I have Pacman, Ms.Pacman, Space Invaders, Tetris and Ninja Turtles which seems to be an entirely new game. Maybe made in Java but seems to be a very dumbed down port of the TMNT Arcade game. I also bought a Space Invaders plug&play from the Dollar General The only one I opened was the Tiny Arcade MsPacman which was my first buy but I decided not to open any of the rest of them.

Most of the pre 1985 arcade games ported to the NES were near arcade perfect. Dig Dug, Bubble Bobble, and Galaga in particular.

  • @Dragoonglue
    @Dragoonglue 3 роки тому +1

I have the Galaga one and yeah, it looks nice on the shelf. My main two gripes are the fact that it uses the NES ROM instead of the arcade one and the fact that tha image in incorrectly scalled and exhibits pixel shimmering (it stretches a 256 x 240 image all over a 320 x 240 panel). If they had used some kind of image interpolation it would have looked amazing as the panel itself is 4:3, the same aspect ratio NES games were on CRTs.

Hello from Australia! I see these around at EB Games a lot and they're on our local Amazon too. I've been tempted by the Dig Dug (a childhood fave of mine) and Mappy ones in particular before, but as it so happens I ended up finding a great deal on their GBA Famicom Minis versions not too long ago.
Back to MyArcade, I don't necessarily mind that they're Famiclones either, though like, they've done it because it's cheaper to manufacture that way.
They're still endearing as heck though and if I had a little more money to splash around, I could see myself collecting these.

As an alternative I rather enjoy BasicFun's Arcade Classics series; unfortunately the LCD, NES-ROM versions are Wal-Mart exclusives. The marquees also don't light up and they're smaller than the MyArcade units, and there is no MicroUSB port so they can't be left on in demo mode, for those that do have it; however, they are reasonably nice units for their price, about the same as the SuperImpulse ones. Interestingly, for the Rampage unit, the ROM was modified to include Ralph the wolf.

I absloutey love that we live in a time where there are so many options for home arcade units, I own 3 of the Worlds smallest arcades just to line up since I think they look the best of the smaller units with thier over hang and light up marque, but even playing simpler games like Mrs.pacman can be quite cramped Wich I don't mind as when I want the arcade experience I just play namco museum with a fight stick. Not long ago I decided to get a numskull Galaga unit and dear God I love this thing (even if my wallet didn't). It's extremely good for both play and looks and I think it strikes that balance the best of all the home arcades. It has such a demanding presence even, to bad il probably never buy a second one as I'd love to have a row of them one day.

These My Arcades are fun, even if they are using NES Roms. Their 40th Anniversary was listed as having an Arcade like port, BUT this isn't true, in fact it's a re-issue of a Pocket Handheld similar to a game gear. The game itself is a homebrew with terrible sound.
If you want a better quality product get your self an Arcade 1Up Countercade which can have up to 4 games on each cabinet which are Arcade ROMS.

I suppose their Game & Watch handhelds count, loosely. I think Nintendo is very selective when it comes to making these things, and given the G&W handhelds didn't seem to make a HUGE dent in the market I imagine they aren't seeing a need to expand that stuff any further. Just a guess though.

My only issue with Dig Dug is that Dig Dug moves at the same speed as in the arcade port. Unfortunately the monsters move 10-15% faster on the NES port making arcade patterns impossible beyond round 32
My high on arcade Dig Dug is 2.41 million (round 181) and my high on NES/My Arcade is a mere 620,250 - round 55. With the exception of Gslaga - NES ports of early 80's arcade games are more difficult than their arcade counterparts.

Wait but doesn't bubble bobble need 2 players to finish the story?... You are kinda locked in the bad ending without a second player

How hard would it have been for them to allow output to a tv?. I love my Galaga though. It’s actually really fun, and since it’s my favorite game and the Atari X didn’t have it, well....that means my second-favorite game Dig Dug’s on the list now too.

Well, it would no doubt increase the cost of production. I don't think these things need it anyways, it's just a novelty. Controlling it externally would just suck.

@@FrameRater I look at my Ms. Pac-Man plug and play joystick as a novelty too, but I enjoy playing it on the tv screen. I’m sure it would have been more expensive but an output would happier fun. I don’t really find them as uncomfortable to hold as a lot if people seem to.

Eh... I would prefer if they had the real arcade ROMs. Hence why the Sega Astro City is great! 37 arcade games in one unit and you can hook it up to the TV as well...

I had the Go Gamer portable!!!!!
Ok, so it’s not ACTUALLY stolen NES roms. The games seem very similar to the NES technology wise, but they are not pirated whatsoever
    It still sucked though

I paid £60 for the Namco Museum My Arcade Player when it normally sells for £120. Fantastic for the player.

The MyArcade Gamer V portable also has stolen assets within its games as well. I remember vividly that one of games involving a Ninja had the desert background from the one stage in Metal Slug 3 that, as a fan of that series, I recognized immediately.

thanks for bringing attention to the myarcade shady stuff, i always got bad vibes from their selection of almost-definitely crap handhelds with 200+ "retro" games on them or whatever. usually nothing licensed, i wouldnt be surprised if some was pirated but i honestly figured theyd all be shitty nes homebrew by the company

These things feel like they should be 10$ at most. They're not close enough replicas to be that novel and they're not arcade perfect enough to be worth playing
