Started esthetician school about 4 weeks ago AFTER earning my bachelors degree and feeling stuck without a career and I can honestly say I’ve found my passion. Thank you for your insight 😊
Something I’m also planning on doing. I’m glad I saw this comment because I still want to get my bachelors, and then also get my license as an esthetician
Wow I’m going for my BSW (social work) but Im considering stopping bc even tho I love helping ppl I don’t think I wanna do that & listen to issues for the rest of my life!
I just started esthetician school after spending two miserable years at community college..SO happy i found my path. This video gave me hope about my future.
Em! I literally was online trying to figure out if this is a career path I want. Btw y'all this is my daughter's best friend and she just graduated! Congratulations Emily!
@@vanessa5261 I'm not on expert at this but in any state and with any job you're going to start off low but you can build your way up. In GA the the average is $25 an hour but remember some people make $10 some probably make $40 or more. It depends on your experience. If you want to make 6 figures or more then you'll probably have to start your own business. You can start small with your business by opening a salon suite and you keep everything you make. My plan is to specialize in doing lash extensions and permanent make up services such as permanent brows, lips, and eyeliner. I think these services can make me 6 figures. 6 figures is $274 a day! I think everyone can do it with the right marketing. I don't really want to work for anybody. Then maybe one day I'll have my own spa and I can employ other people to work for me. I believe there's ways to make money as an esthetician.
ME TOO!! Im a freshmen in college and my major is social work, and im debating on continuing next year because social workers and estheticians get paid the same amount, if not estheticians make more!
I will be a freshman this fall to become a social worker. I am still goijg to go to college. I think maybe it's good to have a second career? What do you think? I am surprised SW's and estheticians make around the same amount or estheticians do. :)
I am in the same exact boat as you right now!! I'm also an elementary education major but i feel like it may not be right for me and i just started looking into becoming an esthetician!
2 mins into this video & you got my crying like a baby 😭. I believe I just found out my calling & the lovely ladies in the comments made me emotional as well. Great video btw 🥰💯👌🏾
My esthetician school is only $3400, but will cost $5400 starting next semester. Meanwhile, my sister in law owed $150,000 for law school, and now works part time hating it...
LillyTheCreator I just started this week and loving it. It’s in Holland, Michigan. The school is Stanley Harris School Of Cosmetology. You only need 400 hours in Michigan, but if you need more hours to transfer to a different state, I believe you can continue going till you collect the amount of hours required in your state...
Idk why but watching you I'm about to cry right now! You just gave me so much life lol. I am 31 and I'm so interested in becoming a lmt but the school I want to attend I would have to get training in esthiology as well. which is a plus for me. but I was feeling so depressed about it bc of my age! I regret not doing this sooner but your video has really inspired me to keep moving forward regardless of my age.
yes girl! its never too late i had a 60 year old in my class. i would say most of my class was late 20's and up! I'm glad i was able to help. don't let anything stop you from chasing you dreams!
I’m commenting a year later. I hope you were able to achieve your goals. As an Esthetician instructor, I worked with students from age 19-75. The older students seems to be more focused on getting what they need to be successful. You’re still you g, don’t let the time keep passing you by.
Toni Ann go for it!! I'm 49, been licensed for 10 years but never used it. I'm now about to take that leap since my kids are grown because it's my passion!! I'm excited about all of the possibilities that wait for me!!
Hi I'm 41 and I want to do this career and very nervous that I'll be teased because most of the girls are young teenagers even though I look like I'm 30 but still thinking if I should go ahead and do it. My biggest fear is that will my body be able to handle home and full day of school as I stopped working 15 years ago when I had my first child.
the drama thing killed me omg hahaha. you're so beautiful and ADORABLE, I finally made the decision to go to esthetician school in october because I felt my bad skin has always been a thing that holds me back from doing things and want to help others be more confident in their skin, I'm really nervous but you've made me feel like I have more of an idea of what to expect after school and positive about this decision. Thank you so much!!
I'm going to enroll in esthetician school and was seriously nervous after reading a bunch of blog posts from bitter people in the profession saying it's really hard to make money.. this video gave me some relief, thank you! You are clearly great at what you do... that makeup and skin is popping!
I went to the Aveda Institute about 5 years ago, and I was so so passionate about it. I loved going to school, and I loved waxing the most. Unfortunately I was very young and bit off a lot more than I could chew as far as work and commuting, and I ended up leaving the program. Looking back, that was a really happy time in my life. I was way more happy when I was immersed in that kind of environment. I have tried different jobs like nannying and dog grooming. I have recently decided to just go back, because I know that it's the job for me. If you're an artistic and empathetic person who is sort of low on the grade of technical/mathematical skills, I think you should look into this! Highly rewarding. Good for you, Helena, for building a wonderful career. Not many people are blessed enough to have found their niche.
I'm a aesthetician and I love my job it's so satisfying seeing befor and after results of a pedicure or a facial it's amazing❤️ like you said the only think that sucks is the weekends and night but if you love it! It's worth it!
Wow your comment really touched me I'm really glad i was able to help. Whatever your passion is follow it and if you put your all into it it will be rewarding!
Go to community college. The actual cost to pay for school was under 2000. If you qualify for financial aid which gives you up to 5000. The con is you have to pay for products which is costly.
Community College is a good option is you want to go to college. I did not like college and it didn't work for my career path. Beauty school was definitely the better choice for me!
I've decided to stop photography and move into the beauty industry and specifically work towards being an esthetician. This video has definitely helped push me towards that goal! Thank you so much! Subscribed!
I’m crying watching this, I’ve struggled this past year trying to find the right major and the right career for me. I’ve always been told I’m great at makeup and taking care of my skin, but never saw myself actually turning that into a career. Until now googling about cosmetology schools near me and seeing esthetician and becoming curious and then coming across your video I’m just in awe... I’ve definitely found what I want to do and I can’t wait to go to school for this. 🥺
You're so happy and excited. That makes me feel even better. I start school Monday after yeeeeeeeears of working in boring fields that don't interest me. I'd love to see a vid on tips and post grad career choices if you can. Thanks.
Love this video, really thinking about going to school to be an Esthe and then in the future open a business in that field ..And your video was the first one that came up on here. Definitely subscribing !
Thank you so much! I have so many videos on being an esti!! And you can so have your own business in this industry!!! Thats something that I want to do myself!!!
Thank you for this video. My aunt suggested to me the field of Skin Care because of my personal obsession with the subject. I didn't know if it would be a good path for me, but after research and hearing what you had to say, I have decided to take the leap. Wish me luck! And thanks again.
First of all you are Stunning! Secondly thank you so much for making this video I'm only 15 but so many people keep telling me to start thinking about me future career and this was a super helpful video! Thank you! I think I want to be an esthetician
First of all WOW THANK YOU SO MUCH! Secondly I'm really happy this video helped you. Also don't feel pressured into picking a career i didn't know what wanted until i was 21! But I will say this is an awesome career path!
I'm about to graduate high school and I've always thought I wanted to do hair. Recently I've realized that I have a fascination with skin care and how the skin can be transformed from scaring, acne, and wrinkles to being flawless. I think I would enjoy Pershing this more than just doing hair but I had no idea how to start! Thank you!
congrats girly! I definitely think you should find an beauty school near you that offers an esthetic program. if they don't, don't worry a cosmetology license trumps an esthetician license. I'm going to be making a video on this in the future so make sure to subscribe so you don't miss out!
Thanks sooo much !! I started cosmetology school in November 2017 and just dropped out because of some things I couldn’t do like finger waves.. then I wanted to go back for aesthetics because I did amazing in the part of cosmo where we do facials and nails so I’m going back tomorrow and sign back up!! Thanks soooo much boo ❤️❤️❤️
I am a university student (I live in Europe) and i want to do an esthetician course to work in this job for my uni years, as i feel this is way more rewarding and better paid as a job in retail or hospitality. I am thankfull that in my country university is completely free! and this beautician course is only 700$ and its rewarded in whole Europe.
Thanks for this video girl! I’ve gone to school to be a makeup artist in the past and always remembered my teacher telling us that our skin underneath is SO important to great makeup application. I’m battling with my own skin right now after having a baby (breakouts like you wouldn’t believe, that never happened before), and I’ve been doing research about skin care. You’re definitely making me want to go into aesthetics! I will be watching more of your vids and subscribing! Have a great day!!!
im going to esthetician school and everyone expressed a lot of doubts towards my decision which made me feel insecure about the whole thing but after watching your videos i feel so confident and ready to do what i love! im so excited! never thought id have to opportunity to go for a career like this. cant wait!
Yea my parents had they're doubts as well but it was the best decision for me! You have to live your life for you! I wish you the best of luck and I'm so glad I was able to help!!!!!
Thank you for this! I’ve been considering going to school to become an esthetician for a few years now and I think this has helped me make up my mind. I’m looking forward to it!
Girl you just inspired me. I’m about to cry. I am so obsessed with my skin that I have never thought about this profession until coming across this video. Thank you so much 🙌🏽❤️ I really think I would enjoy this profession because I have great people skills and also being an esthetician sounds so freaking cool. Thank you so much babe 🥺❤️
Thank you for this video ! I enrolled in cosmetology thinking I was going to do makeup because that’s my passion and I ended up doing more hair and nails which is not my best field . I spent almost a year and a half doing something I was NOT happy doing. It drained me so much. I build up the courage to ask for a transfer to the esthetician’s program and now I start April 2nd ! I’m so excited and ready to follow my dreams, in my heart it feels right 🖤
Wow! Well don't look at it as time wasted I'm pretty sure you've learned so much is the cosmo program. I'm so proud of you for speaking up and doing what you're passionate about. I'm so glad my video helped you!
I’m in high-school currently and I’ve been aspiring to be an esthetician ever since I started caring about my skin. But, i’m a male and I haven’t really seen any male estheticians and I was discouraged to see that I haven’t seen one 😰. But, this video really gave me courage to continue on with my dream 👍 (especially the free products)
YES!!! Listen you go after your dreams who cares if you're the first to do it! (you're not tho I have seen male estheticians in my area lol) You be a trailblazer and prove everyone wrong! You might find it a bit more challenging then a women but imagine if women never went for the jobs that were only for men! We would still be just be at home cooking cleaning and having babies! You go for it!
I went to Aveda, such an amazing company I love Aveda! I'm done with school and not at an Aveda spa now however, I believe so much in Aveda you will love it!!
Thank you for this video. Helena Marie, you are a joy to watch and I'm seriously considering a career change to aesthetics. I have spent over 20 years in the medical profession working in a NICU and although it has been rewarding caring for premature babies, I could really use a career change that wouldn't be as stressful!!
OMG I love your personality and I totally see myself in you and I crochet too! So thank you for sharing your pros and cons with the world. Kisses Girl!
You are absolutely AMAZING!! Thanks so much for giving this 35 year old single mother hope! Lol I'm a Motor Coach Bus driver but my original passion has always been makeup and skin care. After just coming out of a divorce I'm really enthusiastic about pursuing the goals and dreams that has been dormant inside of me.💗 Thank you so much for your videos you are truly a breath of FRESH AIR!!😘😘😘
WOW! Your comment really touched me! Almost have me in tears!!! I'm so glad my video was able to help you and you're still so young! you're going to do great!
My mom also just got out of a divorce. I hope my mom could focus more on herself and her goals as well. She had me young. So she's always had many boyfriends. But she married the wrong guy. He never treated us well. Especially me. I feel so relieved now away from him. Hopefully my mom finds love in a career instead of a man.
I’m so glad I ran across your video. I am a MUA and since I want to be in the beauty industry, I honestly think about becoming an esthetician helping people with their skin. This is a great video.
thank you SO much for this video, i've been searching high and wide for someone to talk about real life as an esthetician, because i'm pretty sure that's what i want to do when i graduate and nobody talks about it!!!
Thank you so much for this. i have been searching and searching for information about esthetics! i loved your attitude SO much! i just subcribed. im 19 years old and have been desperately trying to find a path for myself to walk on... i think i just found it!!! thanks girl!
I'm so glad I watched this! I've been considering a career change to esthetics and it's good to know the pros and cons. Your enthusiasm is so contagious! And I agree...why can't women get along?? No need to be drama cats! 😂
I'll be getting certified inSeptember! In Connecticut of course we don't get licensed but I'm going to get my license in New York to have a better backing I'm honestly a little nervous being a woman of color going into this industry and it doesn't help that I'm the only one in my esthetician program but watching your video made me feel more comfortable.
Girl i was the only one in my program too! I've had zero problems getting a job. Don't worry!!!! Just make sure to be positive and professional and jobs will love you! I'm so excited for you to start your career!
As a massage therapist, there has been drama 24/7...even in school. I want to go to esti school, but I don't want to deal with the drama. It is an issue, ppl. Just have to find a good place to work and/or start your own business. Sadly, there is always one or two bad apples wherever you go. Just steer clear of the places with multiple toxic ppl. Eventually places get reputations, so ask ppl who work where you want to work to get an idea if you can. I worked at one place that had an awful rep and every time I went on an interview, the interviewer would say the same thing; "ah my employee used to work there and they said it was terrible." I have worked in horrible places, and I have worked in awesome places. Be mindful about this if you want to work in the spa industry. Avoid gossip and negativity, and if someone is gossiping to you about someone else, they are probably gossiping about you to someone else. Just steer clear of it...be a professional. Also, befriend the receptionist...you are at their mercy lol!
Thank you so much. I left college and am starting esthetics school and then onto Master Esthetics for medical esthetics and I'm SO excited. The job prospect is great for skincare and your video was so helpful!
I love that you made this video. I have always had an obsession with skincare and I'm finally going to school this spring. I love your personality btw. :)
I've been going back and forth from a hair stylist or an esthetician but not I'm leaning a lot more towards being an esthetician. At my high school we have a cosmetology class that goes over a lot of what's in the beauty industry. I loved doing hair but it just didn't click with me like hair removal and skin care and etc did. I'm going to be a senior and in the last cosmetology class (cosmetology 4). I've been in the class since my sophomore year and I have learned so much. A huge plus is the hours we spent in the salon go towards our hours for schooling. Through the class we are able to get different certifications like hair braiding and hair wrapping. All of those things were fun but not something I really see myself doing after high school. This video has definitely helped with my decision making and it's nice I still have a year to be sure of it. I really wanna do something I love and I'd love to do facials and anything skin care. Thank you for this video!! I love how informative it is and I love your enthusiasm for what you do. Im definitely subscribing 💖
Thank you so much for sharing this information. I love makeup and all about the skin care. I was going to college for an AS in Radiology, but i honestly don't see myself in that field. This video helps me a lot in making a decision. By the way, love your personality! :)
I will be attending TSPA next month and THANK YOU SOOO MUCH this video helps sooo much i felt a little stressed thinking about what people told me that it wasn't going to help me out in my future life
Love your personality! I recently graduated school in NJ but yet to take my boards. Life kinda got in the way but thank you for helping me feel motivated again because I really love skincare. ❤️
Idk if there are any types of these videos, but I'd like to see what an interview would be like and what types of questions they'd ask? I'm a makeup artist, but I'd also live to be an esthetician as well :)! Love how positive you are 💜 hope to see more videos on these topics :D
awesome video!!! My dream is to be an aesthetic and dermatology nurse practitioner in a medical spa! need a masters degree in nursing and an estheticians license. have a very long road ahead of me. do you know any aesthetic nurses? if so it would he great if you made a video about it!
i wish i could help but unfortunately i don't know any. Im glad you enjoyed the video and just remember all your hard work will be worth it in the end !
Ellie Nash hey I actually wanted to do the same thing but don't know which I should do first. Are you getting your license first or going to school first?
Great video! Thank you for sharing. I'm strongly considering Paul Mitchell classes. Off topic, I LOVE that lipstick on you. I actually looked to see if you listed the info. lol Beautiful makeup and overall appearance.
Hey, Helena! Thankyou so so much for making this video! It was very informative and helpful. I've been going back and forth in my head trying to decide what I want to do as a career. I just can't see myself doing anything else but helping women feel and look beautiful. So I always had becoming an esthetician in the back of my mind. The only thing that scares me to DEATH is when I hear "commission." As a 21 year old I want to be financially independent ya know? I want to know that I'm going to always be financially stable. So that scares me. That's the only thing that makes me second guess it. But I love how you said estheticians make money. I'm so happy you're bout to move into your new place that's awesome sauce!!! I want to be like that one day lol. I know if i become an esthetician i want to get into the medical side of it.
I was 21 when i started esthetician school as well. It was honestly the best decision I've ever made. In the beginning it was definately a struggle trying to figure out a place where i made good money but now I've found that at european wax center and i love it. I never feel like I'm working i love what i do and i wouldn't trade being in this industry for anything. The medical side of the industry is a little different i would say most places pay hourly/salary. I got offered a job on the medical side making $17 plus commission. Only reason i didn't take it is because i wouldn't have been true to myself i really like the beauty side of it.
Hey girl, thanks for sharing! I’m finishing my degree in health promotion and I’m going to purse this as soon as I graduate. I like health & skin care. I’m in NYC!

Emily Allen can you get your bachelors in something like this?
Turning 30 this year and FINALLY decided to go to school for licensing for this occupation #excited
yay! I'm so excited for you!

how has school been working for you?
How is everything? Can you give an update?
I been a esthetician for almost 20 years and i love it
Alice Alice yeah but they pay the same as a minimum wage job
@@vanessa5261 That depends on your state. Minimum wage is 7.25 where I live. Estheticians make WAY more than.

I've decided to stop photography and move into the beauty industry and specifically work towards being an esthetician. This video has definitely helped push me towards that goal! Thank you so much! Subscribed!
Im so glad i was able to help. It never hurts to learn something new! Who knows later down the line you can join the two professions!
Thanks.
Yayyy! Let me know how you like it! And great ideas for videos i'll definitely do it soon!
And thanks again.
yay! I'm so happy for you! keep me posted on how you like it!
Yay! So proud of you for going back!
I start in October 😁😁
Yes girl I’m an esthetician too and waxing is LITERALLY therapeutic for me too! Great video girl!!
thank you!!!
Thank you for this video! I enroll today for schooling and I’m excited!
YAYYYY!!!! I'm so excited for you!!!!!
Wow! Thats amazing!!! Definitely go for it!!
Yay! I'm so glad I could help! I love my career I definitely recommend it.
im going to esthetician school and everyone expressed a lot of doubts towards my decision which made me feel insecure about the whole thing but after watching your videos i feel so confident and ready to do what i love! im so excited! never thought id have to opportunity to go for a career like this.
This really makes me happy! Im so glad my video helped you!
Who cares if ur a guy!!! Maybe u will be the first and u will inspire others ! Take risk :)
I will be going to Aveda...starting in May 2017...so exciting
YAYYYYYYYY!!!! you'll love it !
lojay1982 me too!
I went to Aveda, such an amazing company I love Aveda! I'm done with school and not at an Aveda spa now however, I believe so much in Aveda you will love it!!
lojay1982 I went to aveda and it was the best decision of my life, it’s so hard but you will be so happy with your choice !!!!
I sent an email to aveda for information hoping to do the part time progam
Thanx for this video! 💕
These are all like the exact reason I switched to this profession lol I start in 2 weeks.
Can’t wait.
You're gonna love it! Its such an awesome career path.
Yes!! I would highly recommend.
OMG I love your personality and I totally see myself in you and I crochet too! So thank you for sharing your pros and cons with the world. Kisses Girl!
Thank you so much! I really appreciate it.
Thanks for this video. I'm considering becoming an esthetician and you just gave me that push and extra motivation
yay! thats what I'm here for I'm so glad I could help!
Thanks for this info. I was considering going back to school for this. I am a nail tech, and need my nails, so thank you for the heads up.

I’m so glad I ran across your video. I am a MUA and since I want to be in the beauty industry, I honestly think about becoming an esthetician helping people with their skin. This is a great video.

haha yay I'm glad you enjoyed the video lol. As you can tell I love my career so i highly recommend!
Im really glad you enjoyed it! thank you so much for watching. keep me update with how school is going!
I love that you made this video. I have always had an obsession with skincare and I'm finally going to school this spring. I love your personality btw. :)

Omg I needed this video so bad! 😩 I’ve been going back and forth about going but I am so ready to get started 🙌🏽
I say go for it!!!!😊
Do Estheticans do permanant eyelash extensions too?🤔🤔
Yes you can! You don't learn in school you would have to get certified once you get your license.
Thank you sm!❤
If you are starting off becoming an esthetician, you should check out our "student category" in The Skin Games. Helena, great job on the video!
Thank you for this video girl! You are so well spoken and full of knowledge, I needed this!!!!!!!
thank you so much for watching i really appreciate it!
Im definitely subscribing 💖
wow thank you so much! yes you have time to think and you can always do one after high school and if you want to do the other go back to school later.
You are incredibly inspirational. I have been thinking becoming an esthetician for a while. Will definitely start looking into schools.
wow thank you that really means a lot and i would definitely look into it i love what i do
Wow your video was great! Just toured a school and I’m glad I watched your video after. Great job!!
Thank you so much!
Thank you so much for sharing this information. I love makeup and all about the skin care. I was going to college for an AS in Radiology, but i honestly don't see myself in that field. This video helps me a lot in making a decision. By the way, love your personality! :)

I'm glad I could help!
Thank you so much for making this video! I really wanted more information about the day to day. I wanted to hear from a REAL person. So thank you!
Im so glad I was able to help!!!!
Idk if there are any types of these videos, but I'd like to see what an interview would be like and what types of questions they'd ask? I'm a makeup artist, but I'd also live to be an esthetician as well :)! Love how positive you are 💜 hope to see more videos on these topics :D
YESSSSSS! thats such a good idea I'm working really hard on some really good content more focused on the beauty career path!
awesome video!!!
Jas.Chantel get your RN first. It'll take the most time.
this is exactly what i want to be also! I'm currently majoring in nursing right now in college
if you get your estheticion certification first you can use that to make some money on the side :)
I’m starting esthetician school in September and I can’t wait
Great video! Thank you for sharing. I'm strongly considering Paul Mitchell classes. Off topic, I LOVE that lipstick on you. I actually looked to see if you listed the info. lol Beautiful makeup and overall appearance.
thank you ill make sure to leave everything in the description box from this point forward. i believe its love bug by colour pop.
Great video and helpful for those debating to go or not go to school to become an esthetician
I'm telling you it changed my life
I'm looking into this career and I'm so excited!!! Thanks for your Video:D very helpful
