The Canon R6 and R5 have this stunning cinematic quality in their photo's, I find that this quality and feel is missing in the R6 Mark ii images. I too thought that the clinically sharp, almost lifeless, empty and artificial look was caused by removing the low pass filter. But it seems it is caused by some artificial sharpening system? It is especially noticeable and disturbing while shooting people/portraits. I will definitely keep my original R6, as I feel it has the perfect look and balance while the R6 mark ii does not give me the look I want and feels a bit like a failed experiment with the (overly) artificial sharpness.
The R6ii is a fantastic camera the IMPORTANT things such as no record limit and ability to have C1,C2,C3 in video mode is a must HOWEVER.... The 180FPS The Raw capability False Colour are all pointless to me They had the chance to really rival the A7 iv and S5 with the MOST important thing that was lacking....dynamic range!! still a solid camera if your workflow is 50/50 with video AND photo. R6i still works well for me so upgrading would only be for the R5ii whenever that comes out.
almost went for the r6 but decided to go for r6ii. i also dont care much about the Raw and 180fps, but the false color and subject only autofocus are huge game changed to me. i use them daily. you wouldnt really know how beneficial those are unless you use it. example with subject only detect, the camera would never focus to the background, when it loses the subject for a second, maybe the subject turned or went in and out of frame. thats huge for me when im keeping subjects in view, it makes the video look pro. and false color is better than zebras. if i had bought the r6, knowing what i know now, i would definitely return it or sell it.

There are some things there are very interesting to me in the MKII that you didn't mention: you can now use the 4K in APCS crop if you want to get extra reach, plus the small crop in 4K from the MKI it's gone. But looking forward to watch your video about the raw recording and eventually see a comparison with the A7IV would be great, thanks again!
The R6 II is in a league of it's own really. Nothing from Nikon or Sony really can come close. The A7IV for example was already behind the original R6 in most ways. It was hit by the Sony Cripple Hammer as it has a 4K crop which is insane in 2022, and it's photo burst in real world is very, very slow compared to the R6. The build, LCD, touch controls and menu are still pretty far behind the R6/II as well. Nikon has the Z6 II but it's not really in the same league either. Other than that you have to settle for crop cameras like Fuji has and nobody has time for that in 2022. Panasonic makes some great cameras but they also have crops and basically unusable autofocus.
With latest firmware overheating was resolved and tracking objects were updated to include vehicles as well. For still photography there weren't much changes other than R6MKII now has less AF points than R6 and 4mp more in R6MKII. I purchase R6 for $1700 from Canon Online Store during this holiday season, which makes almost $900(with tax) price difference between these two cameras. I don't use video with my R6, so for me it doesn't make any sense to upgrade. BTW, you could mention in your video title that this review is mostly for video features that people who interested more in still photography wouldn't waste their time watching this.

In your 200 % Zoom Test the R6 Mii had twice as much ISO noise at iso 12600, meaning that the old r6 is still better in low light. At least that what I see on this video. I still don't see a compelling reason to switch. I would need to consider the r5c or c70 as an upgrade.
As said the C70 or R5C is for video still a better option since it’s much more focused on video. Regarding the noise : on my computer screen the noise was about the same as well as in the low light test As in the underexposed shots. That what you see on YT is something that the compression of YT must have messed up otherwise I have no explanation

Thanks, glad that you liked it. Yes you can but you can’t assign colour to a button nor the quick menu. So this always takes time to activate it that way. But I’m pretty confident that canon will fix that.
After looking at this video, I am now 100% sure that it is NOT worth it going from the R6 to the R6 MKII... I shoot mostly video and partially photos. I am sorry Canon, but no thanks. If I was switching from a DSLR to a mirror less, yea I would get the new one just for the hype. But I am sure that it still does not worth doing it.
The R6 is great. Ive used it for video as a second camera to the C70 and the image holds its own if exposed properly. HOWEVER, even with the newest firmware, it does overheat. If you plan to use it for extended periods (for instance to film a concert) you will need to shoot in HD.

If Canon did a 20mm f2.8 RF id really consider the MK2. I can't afford the top end RF lenses - but the cheaper lightweight ones I can afford like the 35 and 50.

great review/comparison. But I thought much of the overheating issues were solved with that firmware update for the r5 + r6. There are quite a few UA-cam videos regarding the firmware update being a success in that regard. In this video you say it is still a problem with the R6. Hello thanks for watching. So yes the Firmware update of the R6 clearly improved the overheating but it is still there. So if you record continuously for example a speech at 4k 24 it will overheat after 30 mins. If you shoot B roll in 4K 60 and you turn off the camera between each shot will greatly help In this regard the mark II is better since it doesn’t overheat in 4K 24 and only in 4K 60 after 42 mins of continuous recording.
at 08:25 those focus on color palette looks weird. Did you use same lens, same aperture ? Because on Mark I color palette look sharp all the way through your face. But look at Mark II it's blurry. For autofocus I think Mark I are much better than mark II, hope final firmware fixes it. BTW It'd be great if you can compare color science between R6 MARK II and R5.

As explained in the video: it is quality wise the same es the R6 just a little slower. I used the R6 MII in a recent project and also had a 180fps shot - with denoising and a little sharpening the shot turned out good. It still looked good when upscaled to 4k. So it is good with some post processing
I'm very interested into buying a Canon EOS R6 MK II , but I have heard that Canon won't be allowing third party lenses to be use with RF mount, Is that true? Because I have sigma lenses that I use with my Canon EOS 6D MK II
You can use EF lenses with the adapter from canon with no issues. I also mostly use EF glass. Currently no third party lenses are available just a few Cine lenses in RF. At some point canon will allow other manufacturers to build RF glass but I don’t know when that will be
Do you have experience with the R5c and how does the video AF compare to it? I have one and to be honest its auto focus is pretty lackluster even acknowledging that its a C-line camera. Its not reliable for anything fast paced or less than perfect lifht and I'd need a reliable cam for gimbal use. Would the MkII be what I am looking for or do I really need to get a Sony for it...
Hi Tommi, I have some videos about the R5C on my channel. Personally I don’t use AF and always work with an AC on set I can’t give you too many insights. For me the AF from both cameras has about und same performance. However I would advise to rent a Sony before making the switch and test if that AF can keep up with your work 😚
@@pauleporterdp I've actually had multiple Sony's (A7SIII and IV being the latest). They had their caveats but AF defo wasnt one of them and they'd work perfectly for me. I am however using Canon and BM mostly so I'd rather not mix a 3rd system into it if Canon just is able to deliver with an acceptable price point.
I just need the video wobble to be gone at 24mm wide angle. Your walking test for the wobble on the bridge was that at 24mm ?? I currently record many family videos with the RF 24-105 L and the R6 and the wobble is terrible at 24mm even with IBIS and OIS. I was hoping Canon resolved this. I also have the Sony A74 with the Sigma 24-70 F2.8 but for video the Sony is more jerky because the IBIS is weaker and also the Sigma doesn't have OIS. So wobble or jerky movement. Both look terrible on a 4K 75 inch TV and my family refuses to watch many of the videos because of this. I do have a gimbal but they would rather die then we record them in public on vacations with a gimbal. 😀
Do you mean R6 and R6 Mark II ? If you really mean the Eos R then the R6 is much better for photos. Personally I Shoot a lot in burst mode and the eos R was very slow with the 7 frames and also needed a while for buffering.

@@Noone-ld8ro check dxomark. The image quality in day would be very comparable. But in night, R6II comes out on top. Chose one depending on your use case. If you're a pro/semi pro, get the R6II, else you're better off with the EOS R and you can get some nice lenses with the saved cash
Hello Paule. I need to ask you a question about whether it is worth swapping the Canon R6 for the R6 Mark II. I have video focus problems with the R6 with dark skins, the focus goes back and forth without stopping and is not stable, with light skins everything works great. I had an interview recently and the result was horrendous because of the bad focus of the R6 I with dark skins, no matter the focus setting. Has the R6 Mark II improved in this regard and is it stable? Would it be worth the change? My next step would be to get over Sony if I can't get it fixed. Thanks!

Can anyone explain why someone would use/want IBIS? The corners and image are warping so much... it is so super ugly... Are there actually any cameras where you can't see any wobble at all with full IBIS?
My channel is all about filmmaking that’s why I only focus on video things and I have done that ever since so maybe you check the channel before making a bad comment
This guy doesn’t even know how to comb his hair. He said it was a great improvement over the original or six because now you can record 42 minutes before it overheats and shuts off instead of 30. If you drop the R6 down to 1080 end 24… It never overheats. In 4K I’ve never shot a scene over 20 minutes. Now let’s get down to the center, using an external recorder and video mixer, you can shoot 4K with this all day. Try a positive approach instead of writing the nuts of Cannon trying to get a free mark too.
Try to be neutral dude. Bottom line the R6 MII is an improvement over the R6 since it doesn’t overheat in 4K 24. Most of the people also don’t record continuously in 4K 60. And for the typical B Roll shots were you use 4K 60 it’s almost impossible to get it to overheat in this scenario - full stop. The R6 Mark I overheated in 4K 24p in 25 mins and in 4K 60 even earlier and it already built up too much heat when it was just turned on which is also not the case with the mark 2. So don’t focus on the Numbers rather on actual scenarios.

Lumix s5II is the number 1 camera sold in japan and is a good option. They have greatly improved there face detect auto focus.

R6 also has 4K up to 60 in aps-c crop mode.
The A7IV doesn't really compare. It's limited to cropped 4K 60 which is a severe cripple in 2022

It is because in the one shot I have the colour chart closer to my body 😊
the R6 buffer was 100% better then the R6 MKII buffer so if you shoot action keep your R6 do not upgrade

i use high frame rate for long durations and am looking into the FHD 180FPS .. what can you say about the 1080 quality ?

Do you have experience with the R5c and how does the video AF compare to it? I have one and to be honest its auto focus is pretty lackluster even acknowledging that its a C-line camera. Its not reliable for anything fast paced or less than perfect lifht and I'd need a reliable cam for gimbal use. Would the MkII be what I am looking for or do I really need to get a Sony for it...

I have some videos about the R5C on my channel.
Personally I don’t use AF and always work with an AC on set I can’t give you too many insights.
For me the AF from both cameras has about und same performance. However I would advise to rent a Sony before making the switch and test if that AF can keep up with your work 😚
@@pauleporterdp I've actually had multiple Sony's (A7SIII and IV being the latest). They had their caveats but AF defo wasnt one of them and they'd work perfectly for me. I am however using Canon and BM mostly so I'd rather not mix a 3rd system into it if Canon just is able to deliver with an acceptable price point.
Interesting that the R6 ii seems noisier in general.
The noise is actually different the Mii has more colour noise where as the mark i gets more desaturated and looks mushy overall

I just need the video wobble to be gone at 24mm wide angle. Your walking test for the wobble on the bridge was that at 24mm ?? I currently record many family videos with the RF 24-105 L and the R6 and the wobble is terrible at 24mm even with IBIS and OIS. I was hoping Canon resolved this. I also have the Sony A74 with the Sigma 24-70 F2.8 but for video the Sony is more jerky because the IBIS is weaker and also the Sigma doesn't have OIS. So wobble or jerky movement. Both look terrible on a 4K 75 inch TV and my family refuses to watch many of the videos because of this. I do have a gimbal but they would rather die then we record them in public on vacations with a gimbal. 😀

Do you mean R6 and R6 Mark II ?
If you really mean the Eos R then the R6 is much better for photos. Personally I Shoot a lot in burst mode and the eos R was very slow with the 7 frames and also needed a while for buffering.

@@Noone-ld8ro check dxomark. The image quality in day would be very comparable. But in night, R6II comes out on top. Chose one depending on your use case. If you're a pro/semi pro, get the R6II, else you're better off with the EOS R and you can get some nice lenses with the saved cash

Hello Paule. I need to ask you a question about whether it is worth swapping the Canon R6 for the R6 Mark II. I have video focus problems with the R6 with dark skins, the focus goes back and forth without stopping and is not stable, with light skins everything works great. I had an interview recently and the result was horrendous because of the bad focus of the R6 I with dark skins, no matter the focus setting. Has the R6 Mark II improved in this regard and is it stable? Would it be worth the change? My next step would be to get over Sony if I can't get it fixed. Thanks!

@@pauleporterdp The Canon RF 24-105 f4. It's a good lens for video. It seems to be a known issue on the R6 Mk1 but until it happened to me... Would you say the Mk2 is much better in focus for video?

Do you know why it doesn't have Log2 like the R6 ? it only has Log3 which has lot more noise... software update ? Doesn't look good for me to combine the video from the original R6, for wedding videography
The R6 also doesn’t have Clog2.
Only canon Cinema Cameras have clog2.
No actually clog 2 is more noisy than c log 3.

Can anyone explain why someone would use/want IBIS? The corners and image are warping so much... it is so super ugly... Are there actually any cameras where you can't see any wobble at all with full IBIS?

I heard the R6 Mark 1 had some editing issues within Premiere. Any issues with the files?
The files are the same, very compressed and hard to edit. You need the M1 processor from apple that handles it fine

My channel is all about filmmaking that’s why I only focus on video things and I have done that ever since so maybe you check the channel before making a bad comment
This guy doesn’t even know how to comb his hair. He said it was a great improvement over the original or six because now you can record 42 minutes before it overheats and shuts off instead of 30. If you drop the R6 down to 1080 end 24… It never overheats. In 4K I’ve never shot a scene over 20 minutes. Now let’s get down to the center, using an external recorder and video mixer, you can shoot 4K with this all day. Try a positive approach instead of writing the nuts of Cannon trying to get a free mark too.

Bottom line the R6 MII is an improvement over the R6 since it doesn’t overheat in 4K 24.
Most of the people also don’t record continuously in 4K 60.
And for the typical B Roll shots were you use 4K 60 it’s almost impossible to get it to overheat in this scenario - full stop.
The R6 Mark I overheated in 4K 24p in 25 mins and in 4K 60 even earlier and it already built up too much heat when it was just turned on which is also not the case with the mark 2.
So don’t focus on the Numbers rather on actual scenarios.

Both r6 a r6 two have flimsy plasticy build.... Better go for Lumix s5 two 😊😊😊
