I appreciate that you showed me how to sew on a button, but really didn't need to be convinced it's manly first. It's just a skill to create or repair things.
This tutorial has been way more helpful than any of the several others I watched on UA-cam. It made fixing my pants (for the third time) easy and clear. You are amazing. Have a good day!
Honestly, this is one of the most helpful videos on UA-cam, I bet I've watched it at least 10 times now fixing different shirts, pants, gloves. Thanks for making this.
I've had to sew a few buttons, actually, but the tips about the "x" and the use of a second needle are great. Much appreciated, Antonio. Taking care of our clothes is an art in itself. I'm looking forward for more videos like this. Thanks again.
Thanks for this, I just fixed the button on my hiking shorts. Although next time, I will have to use more than 24 inches of thread as the thread was too short when it came to wrapping the shank.
Awesome tutorial! I am a woman, but find some of these tutorials better done and explained (with some better tricks) made by men. Thank you! Also- A trick to not have to hold the spacer needle with thumb while sewing on button: secure it on the fabric under the button- just grab a little material on one side and then other making sure that the needle is showing above the fabric directly under the button.
I haven't had to use this on a shirt yet but I found this video because my girlfriend had made me a bracelet before she moved off to college and it kept falling off so I had to improvise using this video as a guide so it would stay on. Thank you very much for this it helped a ton!
I've sewn on many buttons, and always wondered how to get that spacing, and the toothpick (safer than a 2nd needle) is a great idea. I kept trying to use something under the button like a fork for the spacing, but that's way too cumbersome! Thank you!
Although I've been reattaching buttons fixing small clothing tears ETC for years, I 've never seen or was taught the double stitching technic. Thanks for the information it'll make a major difference. Also, I have a EM sewing kit that I've carried for years. Thank you! Your video came in handy at the very last minute. I bought a $40 shirt from Men's Warehouse and literally every single button were coming loose 😐 I had to sew them all and this video thought me how to.
I barely had enough spare thread to loop it for the knots at the end using 32", so I'd recommend using 36". That I'm using much more thread than the 24" he recommends may be a sign that I'm no expert at doing this, but then, if you were an expert you wouldn't be watching this. Making the knot at the start isn't as easy as he makes it look. It may take a few tries if my experience is anything to go by. Before you pull the needle through each time leave it halfway through and check that it's where you want it. Sliding the needle back so you can try again is easy UNTIL you've pulled it all the way through. Meanwhile if you do use more thread this will mean that the loop you're pulling through with each stitch is considerably longer and more likely to catch around other buttons so more care will have to be taken. Oh and be careful that the needle doesn't unintentionally go through a bit of cloth that wasn't one you should be piercing, that will really mess it up if you don't spot it before you've pulled the needle through. To avoid making a mess try not to snag the ends of the cotton beyond the original knot as you continue. And, yes, holding that needle on top of the button is going to be easier with some buttons than with others. So long as you (use more thread and) don't try to do it as fast as he does before you're practiced this seems like a passable guide.
Thanks showing the up close detailed shots with a clear camera angle/view and centered in the frame. Too many DIY YT vids fail on some or all these points. Never thought about using the second needle before.
