Oh my goodness! You took the words right out of my head. When I think of how long I’ve been sewing, over 60 years, it’s refreshing to learn not only a new technique but a better way of sewing.

Thank you so much for such a helpful and clear tutorial. You’ve shown me that I’ve been sewing buttons for over 30 years WRONG! I’ve been putting the toothpick or match underneath the button through the stitches and it’s very difficult; how I wish I’d been putting it on the top where it is demonstrably far better. Well, you know what they say, it’s never too late to learn and I shall be doing it your far more sensible way in future. I’m enormously grateful, thank you!

Many many thanks! I had remembered seeing something about using multiple threads like this somewhere, so I did a youtube search and your wonderful video came up. Facing having to sew on 8 buttons to a jacket I altered for my grandson didn't sound like a fun morning for me, especially since I knew my little domestic sewing machine couldn't handle doing them. This was a breeze with your tutorial!

I have a linen dress and the button seems to be pulling the fabric and creating a gap, and also pulling the fabric awkwardly. Do I need a small button under, in the backside of the button panel? How can I fix this?
