    I met David Gilmour in 1984 back stage at a concert in Hollywood Calif. He gave me a signed album that I have in my music room. We talked for 22 minutes. I called him…“The Master Of The Stratocaster” He smiled. I asked if I could shake both his hands that make such great guitar solos, he smiled bigger and said “Sure” and shook both hands at the same time, making a cross between us, I smiled HUGE. I asked him to describe his technique of playing guitar, he replied… “I strike a note, bend it, shake it and then release it”…. Yes, he does that quite well, better than any other guitarist I know, and I know all the great ones.

    Shine On Your Crazy Diamond is a tribute to Pink Floyd's founder, Syd Barrett who left the band for mental issues caused by drugs, I think....

      @jimsouthern1573 2 роки тому

      They wouldn’t say why he left just that he left to spend time with his mum and to work on himself. I don’t think his mental issues were from drugs but no doubt they didn’t help lol.

    • @calanor4130
      @calanor4130 2 роки тому +4

      Gilmour has said that he didn't believe that drugs were the cause for Syd's mental collapse, although he felt that it's possible that they might have sped up a process that eventually would have occurred anyway.

    • @PaleHorseShabuShabu
      @PaleHorseShabuShabu 2 роки тому +3

      Syd would have times where he stood on stage and either wouldn't sing or play and would just stare into the distance or he would play the wrong thing while refusing to sing. Syd was booted from the band because he became unreliable. I think it was a combination of drugs and mental issues.
      During the recording of the "Wish You Were Here" album, Syd randomly showed up, overweight with his head and eyebrows shaved. Apparently none of them recognized him at first.

      @@PaleHorseShabuShabu I've never heard it said so, but I always wondered if it wasn't Syd that was the genesis of this song:
      "So ya thought ya might like to go to the show
      To feel the warm thrill of confusion, that space cadet glow
      I've got some bad news for you sunshine
      Pink isn't well, he stayed back at the hotel

      We're gonna find out where you fans really stand..."

    This song was written about Pink Floyd's original singer/songwriter Syd Barrett. Barrett by most accounts suffered from schizophrenia and had also burned himself out on psychedelic's (largely on LSD) while playing the London underground music scene of the mid & late 60's. Barrett was the band's frontman in 1965, 66, & 67, but his behavior became increasingly erratic, and he left Pink Floyd in 1968, and would spend time in a mental institution. On June 5th, 1975, with none of the members of the band having seen Barrett for years, he showed up at Abbey Road Studios during Pink Floyd's "Wish You Were Here" sessions unannounced, and in a touch of irony watched as the band did the final mix for "Shine On You Crazy Diamond" which had been written about Barrett in the words of Pink Floyd guitarist David Gilmore being "a mad genius."

    Great reaction, thanks for doing it. (For Jon, just as a precautionary measure you should have your eyes tested, just a vision test to see if you need glasses. I say this because a couple of times you were squinting and glasses might help with that. I'm not qualified in that area, just wanting to look out for you. I went 30 years before finding out I needed glasses.) There is 100% chance that I'm wrong and you were just getting into the music, but never hurts to be sure.

    The ultimate LSD song. Designed, written, and composed for just such an event. But of course, that is Pink Floyd in general. "Like black holes in the sky". Which is exactly what your eyes look like when under the awesome influence of shrooms/LSD.

    • @fortch17
      @fortch17 2 роки тому

      Not at all. This was written as a tribute to Syd Barrett. The 9 parts are musical representations of the highs and lows of his life's journey to that point and the lyrics are about his downfall and dichotomy that he became. Full of life and promise but empty due to his mental illness and drug abuse. What was left when catatonic was his eyes ring like black holes in the skies.

    • @POWER-LINKS
      @POWER-LINKS 2 роки тому

      @@fortch17 They are very creative with double entendre lyrics. This song works both ways, if you know the back story. If not, it make ns an excellent tripping song. When you are on LSD, everybody has HUGE black-hole eyes when your pupils take over the rest of your eyes. 100% of Pink Floyd is psychedelic, no matter the root of the song. Very creative. It's really funny to watch black folks crying to "Time", like it has some kind of deeper meaning. Take some LSD, put on some headphones, enjoy. Never gets old.

      Hmm, I actually never made the connection between that line and the use of psychedelics, but now that you mentioned it I wouldn't rule it out. As you say, hugely dilated pupils is typical while being under the influence of psychedelics.

    Oh memories of high school again. Back in my senior year I worked part time as a stock boy in a womens clothing store. The store had a turntable in a cabinet behind the main counter an the store would get albums from the Sam Goody's record store in the mall to use. The mangaer was a bra burning feminist and all we got to hear when she was in was Carly Simon, Carole King and Helen Reddy records. Now the assistant manager was cool, we got the Stones, Pink Floyd, Aerosmith, ZZ Top, Yes and all the great seventies rock bands. Wish You Were Here played a number of times.

    From the possibility of today's legendary great songs Pink Floyd, this is my favorite, as well as the whole album Wish You Were Here. An absolute gem and a masterpiece! And you've probably heard the legendary statement many times: Leo Fender created the Stratocaster and God created David Gilmour to play it ...
    And if you liked this, watch the whole Pulse concert from 1994. This is a masterpiece not only musical (of course) but also visual. Whatever you listen to from this concert (Comfortably Numb, Sorrow, Run Like To Hell, Coming Back to Life, High Hopes..........) you will be thrilled!
    Just please next time: if not necessary, NEVER stop David Gilmour's guitar solo ;-).

    Check out Pink Floyd.
    "Shine on you crazy diamond 1-1x. It's way more beautiful than this version. The video is so beautiful 🤩 I don't think too many reactors have even seen it. It's the In deep silence version.
    Beautiful lush green mountains.
